Where Rachel Leviss And Tom Sandoval Stand After Their Wild Affair
Few celebrity affairs stand the test of pop culture time — Brangelina, Jay-Z and Beyoncé, Marilyn Monroe and JFK. Whether or not #Scandoval goes down in pop culture lore remains to be seen, but at the very least, it was enough to rock the world of reality TV in March of 2023. To recap, we have to start with "Vanderpump Rules" stars Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix, who went Instagram official in 2014. What followed was an up-and-down relationship (the highs and lows of which were chronicled on the show), and a 2021 admission from Madix that she and Sandoval weren't necessarily ready for marriage at the time.
Fast forward to summer 2022 and eight years of Sandoval-Madix, which was when Sandoval allegedly began cheating with their "Vanderpump Rules" co-star Rachel (formerly known as Raquel) Leviss, according to a source who spoke with Page Six. By January 2023, other members of the cast knew about the ongoing affair, which Sandoval's friend and co-star Tom Schwartz called "an open secret." Madix, however, wouldn't find out about her boyfriend's infidelity for another few months, when People reported that she discovered Sandoval and Leviss' inappropriate text thread. Both Sandoval and Leviss attempted to do damage control, but it was too little, too late. The fallout was brutal, involving one black eye (allegedly courtesy of Scheana Shay's right hook), two public admissions of guilt, and zero apologies accepted. Ironically, the media backlash has been more of an obstacle to Leviss and Sandoval's relationship than Madix ever was.
Rachel Leviss and Tom Sandoval aren't speaking
Pretty much no one is Team Rachel in the wake of Scandoval, but if you were wondering whether Tom Sandoval and Rachel Leviss stayed together after their affair, the answer is no. In fact, a source told Us Weekly that Leviss wants nothing to do with Sandoval. As of September, "Rachel and Tom have not spoken in nearly three months," the insider said, explaining that Leviss last spoke to Sandoval prior to checking into a mental health facility in June. At that time, Leviss "made the decision that it was healthiest to cut Tom out of her life completely."
On September 12, Leviss blocked the TomTom owner on Instagram when he wished her a happy birthday, per Page Six. But Sandoval didn't appreciate being cut off. "I think [the social media block is] a little thirsty and immature personally, but [Rachel] is who she is," he told Extra. "I still wish the best for her. I hope she's doing good and I hope she finds her happiness." Separately, Sandoval called Leviss "petty" for her decision to publicly share that she'd blocked him (via People).
Leviss, meanwhile, has been busy ridding her life of anything that reminds her of her mistake. In October, she auctioned her infamous TomTom sweatshirt and lightning bolt necklace for charity, per People. "I just don't want to see them, I don't want to have them in my possession. I will never wear them again," Leviss told fans on Instagram Stories.
Rachel Leviss won't be returning to Season 11 of 'Vanderpump Rules'
After struggling with the fallout from Scandoval, Rachel Leviss is taking her healing process seriously. For her, this means a return to "Vanderpump Rules" isn't in the cards ... at least for now. "Rachel's mental health is the most important thing to her and her family," a source told ET in July. "She spent a lot of time working on her mental health at the facility and knows going back to the show and filming will be very stressful." In August, Leviss appeared on Bravo alum Bethenny Frankel's "ReWives" podcast, where she spoke about not receiving additional compensation for Scandoval, even as it drove that season's highest ratings to date. "I haven't seen a single penny," she explained. "It's not fair ... And I feel like I've been portrayed as the ultimate villain. My mistakes that I've made on camera live on forever."
On Frankel's "Just B with Bethenny Frankel" podcast, Leviss divulged that she considered returning to the show if producers were willing to pay her the same amount of money as Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix — which they weren't (via ET). That was the last straw for Leviss, who has decided she's done with reality TV. "[I'd never go back] because I refuse to not respect myself on that level where I would endure that emotional abuse any longer. I can't do that to myself," she said.
