Jeff Bridges To Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award At 2019 Golden Globes
Congratulations are in order for acclaimed actor Jeff Bridges!
On Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced that The Big Lebowski star will receive the coveted Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2019 Golden Globes. This film lifetime achievement award honors outstanding contributions to entertainment.
"The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to bestow the 2019 Cecil B. DeMille Award on Jeff Bridges," HFPA President Meher Tatna released in a statement (via Page Six). "Bridges' brilliant body of work across diverse genres has captured the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide for more than six decades. We look forward to celebrating 'the Dude' and his remarkable career and philanthropic achievements at the upcoming Golden Globe Awards."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, the Cecil B. DeMille Award was last given to media mogul Oprah Winfrey in early 2018.
At the time of this writing, Bridges, who's been nominated for a Golden Globe six times throughout his decades-long career, has yet to publicly comment on his latest honor. However, readers may remember that the movie star won the award for Best Actor in a Drama for his performance in Crazy Heart back in 2010.
The nominations for this year's award show, which honor the very best in film and television, were revealed earlier this month. With Vice leading the film category with six nods, A Star Is Born, Green Book, and The Favourite follow closely behind with five nominations each. Meanwhile, The Assassination of Gianni Versace led the pack in television with four noms, while The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, Homecoming, and The Americans all earned three.
The upcoming ceremony will also introduce a new special achievement award in television called the Carol Burnett Award. Appropriately, the honor's first-ever recipient will be the legendary comedian herself. As Tatna previously stated (via Variety), "For more than 50 years, comedy trailblazer Carol Burnett has been breaking barriers while making us laugh. She was the first woman to host a variety sketch show, The Carol Burnett Show ... We are profoundly grateful for her contributions to the entertainment industry and honored to celebrate her legacy forever at the Golden Globes."
Also featured on Hollywood's big night will be Isan Elba, the teen daughter of actor Idris Elba. As previously reported, she is set to serve as the second-ever Golden Globe Ambassador, a position which highlights the HFPA's philanthropic efforts.
The 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards, co-hosted by Killing Eve star Sandra Oh and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg, will air live from the Beverly Hilton at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019.
