Mel B Reveals She's Been Hospitalized For Broken Ribs, 'Severed' Hand
Melanie "Mel B" Brown, who's best known as Scary Spice of the Spice Girls, is sharing a health update with fans.
On Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, the Brutally Honest author took to Instagram to reveal that she's been hospitalized after suffering some serious injuries over the weekend.
"Thank you to all the wonderful nurses dr's and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me here at the hospital I've been staying at, suffering 2 broken ribs a severed right hand needing [emergency] care," Brown wrote to her 1.4 million followers, captioning a snapshot of herself sporting a blue hoodie and purple foam sling in the hospital. She added that she "had to have over a 3 hr surgery to repair the damage."
Noting that she was "absolutely gutted" to cancel her book signing in New York City that day, the "Wannabe" singer apologized to her fans and promised to reschedule the meet-and-greet event at a later date. "For now my right arm/hand is all stitched up and I'm trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs, ohhh the pain, but I'm in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!!" Brown went on. Completing her lengthy post with the hashtags, "#accidentshappen #needtimetoheal #hospital," she concluded, "Thank you all for understanding, I love you all."
While the America's Got Talent judge didn't announce exactly how she sustained her injuries, her rep has since told Entertainment Tonight that she suffered a nasty fall down a flight of stairs while staying over at a friend's home in London.
Brown's hospitalization unfortunately follows a rather difficult year amid her divorce from ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, whom she previously accused of physical and verbal abuse. As Nicki Swift previously reported, the 43-year-old decided to enter rehab in August 2018 to receive treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, alcohol abuse, and sex addiction.
However, it should be noted that Brown's rep has since told ET that drugs and alcohol were not involved in her recent accident.
While Brown continues to heal, she luckily has her Spice Girls pals, Mel C (Sporty Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), by her side. Readers may already be aware that the former British girl group, sans Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), will kick off their reunion tour next June in Manchester, England. Sharing a boomerang of the pop stars, Brown wrote, "When your besties show up to hospital with hugs laughter and A LOT of love, ahhhh I love my spice girls yipppeee #friendship #family #spicegirls."
We're wishing Brown a speedy recovery!
