Idris Elba's Daughter Isan Named Golden Globe Ambassador For 2019
Actor Idris Elba's daughter just scored a major gig at just 16 years old!
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on Wednesday evening, Nov. 14, 2018, that the Luther star's teen daughter, Isan Elba, has been chosen as the Golden Globe Ambassador for 2019, E! News reports.
In a statement released to the publication, Isan revealed how she plans too use her new platform for good. "I feel honored to hold this title and use this role to not only further educate people on the work of the HFPA, but also shine a light on issues that I care about," she stated. "Mental health, specifically among African Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. There's this perceived stigma and I've seen friends struggle. We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's daughter, Simone Garcia Johnson, was named the first-ever Golden Globe Ambassador just ahead of the 2018 awards ceremony. While replacing the previous role of Mr. or Miss Golden Globe, the new title highlighted the association's ongoing philanthropic efforts. The chosen ambassador is also required to assist in handing out awards and ushering the night's winners off of the stage.
2018 has already marked a big year for the Elba family. In addition to getting engaged to model Sabrina Dhowre in February of this year, Idris Elba was recently named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive for 2018. "Who'd have thought it! Thank you @people & all the fans for naming me #SexiestManAlive," the Thor: Ragnarok star wrote on Instagram after the news broke earlier this month. While captioning a photo of his People magazine cover, he added, "I'm honoured & thankful."
For her part, Isan, who hopes to follow in her famous dad's footsteps as an actress and filmmaker, couldn't help but joke about the Wire alum's latest honor while speaking with Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday. "I was looking forward to seeing who it was, and then when I found out it was him, it was kind of awkward," she quipped. "I don't really agree ... Handsome, yeah, but I can't, no. It's really weird."
The 76th annual Golden Globe Awards will air live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif. at 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019.
