Cheyenne Floyd And Cory Wharton: Strange Things About Their Relationship
When Cheyenne Floyd — star of season 3 of MTV's Are You The One? — announced in an October 2016 Instagram post that she was expecting, fans were blindsided. Not only were they shocked by her announcement, but they were clueless as to who her baby daddy could be. Floyd made matters even messier by neglecting to acknowledge the child's father.
Months after welcoming her daughter into the world, another bombshell dropped: Her baby's daddy was none other than her The Challenge: Rivals III co-star Cory Wharton. While Wharton and Floyd's flirtation had been no secret, it was still a huge shock when fans learned their friendship had turned sexual away from the cameras ... for a brief moment, at least.
Wharton expressed his excitement about becoming a father to their baby, Ryder Wharton, in an Instagram photo, along with a caption that read, in part, "I want to say thank you Cheyenne for being such an amazing mother. I look forward to co-parenting with you and giving Ryder all the love in the world." Aww, how sweet.
After Floyd signed on to appear on Teen Mom OG in 2018, we've learned so much more about Floyd and Wharton's unconventional romance, including everything from how open they are about their respective love lives to the possibility that they might take things to the next level ... one day.
Here are the strangest things about Cheyenne Floyd and Cory Wharton's relationship.
They both wanted to do their own thing
Even though there was an obvious attraction between the two of them, Cory Wharton and Cheyenne Floyd never had intentions of having a long-lasting relationship.
Wharton told the Watch With Us podcast that he and Floyd initially connected after she finished in third place on The Challenge: Rivals III. At the time, Wharton told Floyd, "I'm glad that you're home. I'd love to see you," and the two went out to dinner and chatted it up. "She kind of let me know, like, 'I kind of want to do my own thing. I think we jumped the gun.' And I was like, 'I'm the same,'" Wharton said.
Afterwards, they went their separate ways. But when they were both visiting New York City, they hooked up. Wharton told the Domenick Nati Show that they were "just having fun" ... but that one night of fun turned into an unplanned pregnancy.
A messy situation
Cheyenne Floyd was open about becoming a mom very early on in her pregnancy, but what she wasn't so forthcoming about who her child's father was.
Behind the scenes, she reportedly told Wharton there was a possibility that he could be the father considering their New York City hook-up. Wharton, on the other hand, thought the chances of a paternity test coming back positive for him were slim because Floyd was dating and hooking up with her now-ex-boyfriend immediately after the Rivals co-stars' NYC encounter. "We didn't think it was mine because it was only one time but it ended up being mine," Wharton told the Domenick Nati Show. "That sperm knew what they wanted! My sperm went right up, created a baby, man, and now I'm here." We know how babies are made. Enough of the T.M.I., Cory!
After their daughter, Ryder Wharton, was born, and Wharton's paternity was confirmed, he told Us Weekly that "everyone got thrown through the loop."
What a complicated situation, but at least Wharton has accepted the challenge and embraced fatherhood 100 percent.
He doesn't have 'crazy love' for her
Cory Wharton and Cheyenne Floyd are pros at co-parenting, but the underlying sexual tension is undeniable, as seen on Teen Mom OG. Still, when they started filming, Floyd was dating and living with a guy named Zach. And surprisingly, Wharton told Us Weekly he didn't mind that Floyd was in a relationship at all.
"It's never a jealousy thing at all with Cheyenne. It's all about [our daughter] Ryder. You know, if I had crazy love for Cheyenne, I'm sure I could confess my love, and be like, 'I want to be with you, and make this work.' I'm sure she would think about it, and we would make a decision from there," he told the publication.
Wharton also proudly proclaimed that he was single, but we wonder how Floyd feels about his lack of "crazy love" for her? That's gotta be a huge blow to her ego. It would be for anyone!
The door is 'never closed'
Speaking of Cheyenne Floyd's relationship with another man, she and Cory Wharton are very honest about their love lives. Like, super honest.
Despite the fact that they're not in a relationship as of this writing, Floyd told Us Weekly that she and Wharton are "very open with each other" about the other people they see. "I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing because then we both have opinions on each other's relationships. We're still learning how to not cross certain boundaries with each other and we're still learning," she told the publication.
Still, there's a possibility that they'll kick their other prospects to the curb one day. "I mean, the door is never closed, right? When you have a kid with somebody, that door is always open," Wharton told the Domenick Nati Show. "We have a kid together, so that door is always open, but right now, we just feel like she's dating Zach, doing her thing, and I'm doing mine."
The door remaining ajar sucks for anyone else they may date in the future, but does anyone else get the feeling that Wharton and Floyd really do want to be together? What's the hold up?
A one-year paternity celebration
Most couples can't wait to celebrate their child's first birthday, and Cheyenne Floyd and Cory Wharton are no different. They joined together — wearing matching adorable outfits, we might add — for their daughter's circus-themed first birthday party in April 2018.
The joyous occasion was complete with a miniature horse, a yummy cake, lots of music, and all of the family and friends who have supported the trio along the way. It was certainly a day Floyd and Wharton will remember forever. And Floyd told Us Weekly they were planning another huge blowout that same year, too. "Our next celebration is actually going to be Halloween because that's the day that Cory found out [he was Ryder's dad] so it's his one year [as a dad]."
She called the shindig the "one-year Cory party," and, while we think it's a novel idea, it sounds more like an excuse to just throw another party. Either way, hopefully our invitation is in the mail ... or that the Teen Mom OG cameras are rolling to capture it all, at least.
They picked up right where they left off
Reality television is full of couples whose relationships are plagued by non-stop drama, like the romances of many of Cheyenne Floyd's Teen Mom OG fellow cast members. So, it's very refreshing to see Floyd and Cory Wharton getting along so swimmingly, with little to no disagreements about the way they co-parent their daughter. According to Floyd, they've managed to keep things civil because their relationship started out with a solid foundation based on friendship. She told Page Six, "I think he's one of the only people that I really talked to when I did The Challenge."
While Floyd took a break from reality TV when she found out she was pregnant, Wharton continued appearing on other The Challenge seasons, including Invasion of the Champions, Dirty 30, and Vendettas — not to mention The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars.
Finding out he was the father of Floyd's baby meant he briefly put his TV appearances on hold, and their friendship picked right back up where it left off. "We didn't get stuck on what happened and how it played out. We just put everything to the side and said, 'Hey, it is what it is. Now we have a kid. Let's focus on that,'" she said.
Floyd and Wharton still have to adjust to life as parents
One look at her Instagram feed and you can tell Cheyenne Floyd is a loving and devoted mom. But there was still a time when she was down in the dumps over her pregnancy — particularly, the fact that she was unwed at the time she found out she was expecting. "I never thought I would have a baby before I got married," Floyd said during an episode of Teen Mom OG (via MTV). "I did everything by the book except this."
It's not like Floyd is the first person to have a child out of wedlock, so she definitely shouldn't feel bad about how things turned out. And frankly, there's no time for the Are You the One? alum to mull over the past. She has an even bigger task at hand after finding out her daughter has a rare genetic disorder called VLCAD — or, very long-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency, according to Us Weekly.
She's more determined than ever to spread awareness of the disorder, and we're happy that her daughter is healthy and thriving despite the sad news.
And fortunately, baby daddy Cory Wharton is all in to help Floyd raise Ryder. "It has been a blessing. I've needed Ryder in my life more than she needed me," he told Us Weekly. "Becoming a dad just means it's time to grow up a little bit. ... So buckle in and figure things out!"
