Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Expecting First Child
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have a baby on the way!
Early on Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, the royal couple announced their big news with the public via a tweet from Kensington's Palace. Sharing a photo of Harry and Meghan, the palace tweeted, "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019."
A follow-up tweet read, "Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public." Harry and Meghan previously married on May, 19, 2018, in a beautiful ceremony at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Kensington Palace also noted that Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, is "is very happy about this lovely news, and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild," as reported by E! News.
Meghan, who is currently in Sydney, Australia with her husband (via NBC News), is reportedly 12 weeks along. Her child will have the title of either Lord or Lady Mountbatten-Windsor, unless the Queen decides to give them the title of His or Her Royal Highness.
Regardless of the baby's sex — which has yet to be announced — Harry and Meghan's child will take Prince Andrew's spot as seventh in line for the throne, pushing Andrew to eighth in line.
According to CBS News, Harry and Meghan first told his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and other family members about the pregnancy at Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding on Friday, Oct. 12.
As royal expert Roya Nikkhah told CBS News, Meghan's pregnancy will mark a first in royal history. "Meghan is an American, she's the first mixed-race woman to marry into the royal family — we're going to have the first mixed-race child in the royal family, and I think the queen is going to be absolutely thrilled."
Congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle! We can't wait to learn more about their journey into parenthood.
