Princess Eugenie And Jack Brooksbank Marry In Royal Wedding
Move over, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Princess Eugenie and her now-husband, Jack Brooksbank, just gave us another royal wedding for the books.
On Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, Princess Eugenie of York, who is ninth in line for the throne, married Jack Brooksbank in a gorgeous wedding ceremony at George's Chapel at Windsor Castle — the same spot where Harry and Meghan tied the knot back in May!
Eugenie stunned as she arrived wearing a custom gown designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, as reported by People. Her dress featured a fitted bodice with a V-shaped neckline, a long train, and a low back. The latter feature revealed her long scar on her spine from when she'd had surgery at just 12 years old to correct her scoliosis and was an aspect of her wedding gown that she'd reportedly specifically wanted.
Also wearing the stunning Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara on loan from Queen Elizabeth II and emerald accessories given to her by her groom, Eugenie was accompanied by her father, Prince Andrew, as she entered the chapel.
As noted by People, Eugenie's sister, Princess Beatrice, served as her maid of honor. Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton's children Prince George and Princess Charlotte acted as a page boy and a bridesmaid, respectively. Wedding guests included royals like the Queen, Prince Phillip, Prince William, Duchess Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Duchess Meghan Markle. Of course, there were a few celebrities in the mix at the 800-guest wedding service as well — like Demi Moore, Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, Ellie Goulding, James Blunt, and Kate Moss (via USA Today).
According to the BBC, there were "lots of smiles and lots of nerves from the couple" during their wedding ceremony. The media outlet noted that the bride and groom's hands were shaking, as the pair were likely both excited and nervous at the big affair. Dean of Windsor David Conner officiated the wedding.
During the ceremony, popular Italian singer Andrea Bocelli reportedly performed two songs.
After Eugenie, 27, and Jack, 32, wed, the newlyweds went on a horse-drawn carriage ride around Windsor, as about 1,200 invited guests on castle property watched on.
Following the royal wedding, guests will enjoy an afternoon reception at St George's Hall, hosted by the Queen herself. Later on in the evening, there will also reportedly be a celebration at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park, where Eugenie's parents Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson reside. But People magazine notes that the party won't be over on Friday. On Saturday, Oct. 13, there will reportedly be a "festival-style event complete with a fairground and food stalls."
Princess Eugenie had first met Jack Brooksbank seven years earlier, after they'd been introduced by friends at a ski resort in Verbier, Switzerland. Eugenie had been a student at Newcastle University at the time. "We met when I was 20 and Jack was 24, and fell in love," Eugenie shared in an interview with the BBC ahead of her big day. "We have the same passions and drive for life."
Eugenie and Jack, who works in hospitality, kept up a long-distance relationship for a few years when the royal left to work at the online auction house Paddle8 in New York. However, Eugenie has since returned to London to act as director at the gallery Hauser & Wirth.
The couple later became engaged during a vacation to Nicaragua in January 2018, as revealed by Buckingham Palace in an announcement on Jan. 22.
Speaking to the BBC about their future wedding, Eugenie said, "It's so nice that we get to share this moment with everyone, and you get to meet Jack."
And fortunately for the happy couple, Eugenie's family appears to adore her now-husband. "Jack is an absolutely outstanding young man and Eugenie and he have got to know each other over a number of years, and I'm really thrilled for them," Prince Andrew shared in a statement (via ABC News). "I'm just completely overjoyed for them and wish them every happiness." Of her daughter's other half, Fergie has said (via Express), "Jack really is a sort of amazing bringer of light and he brings joy."
Congratulations to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on their marriage!
