The Untold Truth Of Bella Harris
"Here's to new beginnings and new adventures," Bella Harris posted on Instagram after walking across the stage and receiving her high diploma in June 2018. Three months later, she was the talk of the tabloids as the rumored new woman in the life of one of hip-hop's biggest stars.
Already an established model who has posed for brands the likes of Calvin Klein, Guess, Vogue, Clinique, Abercrombie & Fitch, Forever 21 and more, Harris has plans to one day take the modeling and fashion industries by storm.
But who exactly is she? From her life as the daughter of an 80s musical icon, to her strange (get it?) connection to Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, to rumors of unrequited superstar love with a side of high-end corn agnolotti, we've got the untold truth of Bella Harris right here. Sorry, Kiki. Are you still riding? And are we still doing that whole challenge thing? It seemed a little dangerous.
Her dad is kind of a big deal
Bella Harris grew up rubbing elbows with music and entertainment legends her entire life. "My father Jimmy Jam is a successful record producer, he was also the Chairman of the Grammys, so I have been exposed to some pretty amazing things and met some of the greatest people in music," she told Misguided. If you're unfamiliar with Jimmy Jam, he was one half of the powerhouse 80s songwriting and producing team, Jam & Lewis, who created the soundtrack to your parents' lives.
According to ASCAP, Jam & Lewis either wrote for or produced the following artists over an illustrious 30-year career: "Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Beyoncé, Sting, Mary J. Blige, Elton John, Usher, Yolanda Adams, Herb Alpert, Luther Vandross, Rod Stewart, New Edition, Human League, Earth, Wind and Fire, Mariah Carey, Robert Palmer, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West." We could on and on, but you get the point.
She went from study hall to strutting the catwalk
A lot of celebrity offspring seek out opportunities in the modeling world, but the modeling world came looking for Bella Harris. "I got tall at an early age when I was 13, and I was scouted and signed with a modeling agency in Los Angeles," she told Misguided.
It appears to have been a match made in heaven as most of Harris' hopes and dreams revolve around the fashion industry. "I hope to be successful at modeling and really nail all aspects of the modeling business, but I really want to do so much more," she explained. "I have dreams of becoming an entrepreneur, and I love fashion and the fashion industry." She also hopes to one day do "a capsule collection or two," and eventually have her own "complete line." But she's not all about the runway. She's also has "a love for interior design" and "envisioning and creating spaces."
As of this writing, all of that hard work on the catwalk is paying off. "#EliteNYC is happy to announce the representation of #BellaHarris," Elite Model Management New York City posted on Twitter on August 31, 2018. "Welcome aboard the #EmpowerMeElite team, Bella!"
Jimmy Jam also had a proud dad moment. "Congrats @bellabharris on your new modeling home. I couldn't be prouder of you or love you more. Can't wait to see what the future holds," he posted on Instagram.
She might be dating Drake
Page Six reported that Drake and "a female companion" dined at the upscale eatery RPM Italian in Washington, DC on September 10, 2018, while the hitmaker was in between tour stops. The mystery surrounding the identity of this female companion grew until E! News confirmed that it was none other than "18-year-old model Bella Harris."
According to a source, "Drake waited for the upscale eatery to 'clear out' before heading into the main dining room on Monday evening, where Bella then joined him." This source must have been staring a lot because they revealed that Drake and Harris ate "RPM Italian specialties such as roasted salmon, corn agnolotti, picatta moderno, and whipped potatoes before being escorted out together." Drake reportedly liked their food so much that he "returned to the restaurant the following evening with Bella and a group of friends." It's unclear if this was a viral marketing campaign for RPM Italian or not because...
She might not be dating Drake
Despite rumors that Bella Harris and Drake enjoyed a private dinner as a new couple, a source told ET that the model and "Best I Ever Had" rapper "are not and have never been dating."
This denial didn't keep fans from speculating, however, as they quickly pointed out a Harris Instagram post from 2016, where she posed with Drake during his Summer Sixteen tour with Future. "Last night w this legend #revengetour," the caption read, including a well-placed blue-heart emoji.
Eventually, Harris grew tired of the rumors and speculation and decided to clear things up for everyone who assumed they were a hot new item. "Coming off an amazing New York fashion week, I feel I need to set the record straight," she wrote on Instagram. "I did not dine in DC recently. I was happily working & dining in NYC everyday [sic]." No word yet if Drake is in his feelings or not. Probably. Isn't he always?
Millie Bobby Brown probably knows for sure
If anyone can crack the case on whether or not Bella Harris and Drake are dating, it is Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown. Why in the world would that be? Glad you asked. In a July 2018 interview with W Magazine, the actress revealed Drake invited her to his concert, "And now we talk all the time. I ask his advice." Okay.
This interview, of course, garnered a ton of media attention, and when Brown took to the red carpet at the 2018 Emmys, Access asked her to elaborate on the relationship. "He's a great friend and a great role model," she told them. "We just texted each other the other day. He was like, 'I miss you so much,' I was like, 'I miss you more,' he's great." Brown went on to say that Drake gives her advice on boys, and when pressed for specifics she replied, "That stays in the text messages."
Of course, it's easy to see how a friendship between a 31-year-old and a 14-year-old could seem problematic to some, but Brown responded to the backlash on Instagram. "Why u gotta make a lovely friendship ur headline? U guys are weird," she wrote per Teen Vogue, adding, "For real. I'm lucky to have people in the business extend their time to help me further my career and offer their wisdom and guidance."
Rihanna is her hero
"My female hero would have to be Rihanna. I was speechless when I met her, and she was so nice and friendly to me," Bella Harris told Misguided. Saying the "Diamonds" singer "has accomplished and achieved so much in her career" and claiming "she can honestly do no wrong," Harris raved about Rihanna's Fenty-Puma clothing line and said she was "thrilled" when she was booked to model "her new Spring line."
We assume the subject of Drake didn't come up as Rihanna probably wouldn't have much to say on the matter. In a May 2018 interview with Vogue, she discussed how "uncomfortable" Drake made her by publicly confessing his love and trying to kiss her on stage at the 2016 Video Music Awards. The display was a bit cringeworthy. As for the current status of their relationship? "We don't have a friendship now, but we're not enemies either. It is what it is," Rihanna explained. Ouch.
No time for trolls
Ideally, social media is a fantastic way for celebrities to engage with their fans, talk about issues of the day that are important to them, and post a selfie or fifty. Realistically, social media is far from this perfect scenario, and is more like the online version of the Roman Colosseum where they fight off wave after wave of trolls for the bemusement of the masses. But Bella Harris has found a particular counter-attack when dealing with online haters.
"My favorite comeback to haters is ignoring them. If you don't care, then they can't win. Once you comment back, they know that they made you mad so they will keep taunting you," she explained to Misguided. "If you don't acknowledge the hate then it ends there. If the situation is something more serious or gets out of hand, then I would block." Ignore. Block. Repeat. Bella Harris is wise beyond her years.
