Former First Daughter Barbara Bush Marries Craig Louis Coyne
Congratulations are in order for Barbara Bush, daughter of former United States president George W. Bush, and her fiancé, screenwriter Craig Louis Coyne.
The Today show reports that Barbara Bush, 36, and Craig Louis Coyne, also 36, married in Kennebunkport, Maine on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018. For the intimate ceremony, Bush, who was walked down the aisle by her father, wore a custom Vera Wang wedding dress. The Global Health Corps co-founder also donned a bracelet that her grandfather, former U.S. president George H. W. Bush, had given her grandmother on their 70th wedding anniversary as her "something borrowed." Bush's aunt Dorothy Bush Koch officiated the wedding.
Bush's twin sister, Today show correspondent Jenna Bush Hager, opened up about the beautiful event, stating, "It was a very secret wedding, a little bit like my elusive sister. But also, just family in a place that means family love, and it was just beautiful." Bush and Hager's grandfather lives in Maine.
Hager served as Bush's matron of honor, while Coyne's brother Edward Coyne III served as his best man. Hager's children were also involved in the wedding, with 5-year-old Mila taking on the role of flower girl while 3-year-old Poppy acted as ring bearer.
According to People magazine, Bush and Coyne were set up on a blind date in November 2017 and officially decided to be a couple by the following New Year's Eve, though Bush resided in New York while Coyne lived in Los Angeles. Over the summer — just five weeks before their wedding — Coyne proposed to Bush during a family event in Kennebunkport, Maine, near the location where Bush's grandparents had gotten engaged decades earlier in 1943.
Following their wedding day, Bush and Coyne will live together in New York.
As Nicki Swift previously reported, the Bushes lost a beloved member of their family earlier this year, former First Lady Barbara Bush, whom the bride had been named after. But her presence was clearly felt at the wedding, as the younger Barbara Bush wore her jewelry and Hager referenced her grandmother's romance with their grandfather during her reception toast.
Not long after Barbara Bush tied the knot, her father took to Instagram to share a photo of them together on her big day. In the caption, he wrote, "Barbara is named for a unique and strong woman — and rightly so, because she is unique and strong. @laurawbush and I are so proud of our compassionate, daring, fierce, kind, intelligent, loving daughter. And we're thrilled to welcome Craig Coyne to our family."
Congrats to Bush and Coyne on their marriage!
