Ryan Gosling And Blake Lively Sparked Relationship Buzz (But It Was Never Serious)
These days, it's hard to imagine Ryan Gosling and Blake Lively being with anyone else besides their respective partners, Eva Mendes and Ryan Reynolds. Gosling and Mendes have been together ever since they fell in love on the set of the epic crime thriller "The Place Beyond the Pines" in 2011. The couple — who now shares two children, daughters Esmeralda and Amada — has largely kept their relationship away from the spotlight. Mendes explained their desire for a private family life to a fan on Instagram in 2020. "I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids," she said, via Harper's Bazaar. "As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way, to stay private."
As for Lively, the actor has been happily married to Reynolds since 2012. The pair first met while filming their movie "Green Lantern" in 2010 but did not start their romantic relationship until late 2011. According to Reynolds, he and Lively had been friends for quite some time when they realized they had a thing for each other after going on a double date with other people. Since then, the A-list couple has welcomed three daughters — James, Inez, and Betty — and a baby no. 4 in 2023, per People.
Gosling and Lively each have found their happily ever after with their partners ... but there was once a time that they dated each other. It would seem that what they had was never serious as things fizzled out as quickly as it started.
They were spotted on an ice cream date
Ryan Gosling and Blake Lively first sparked relationship rumors in October 2010. Per E! News, the two were spotted hanging out together at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor at Disneyland, shortly before it was announced that Lively had broken up with her longtime boyfriend Penn Badgley. While Lively's rep quickly denied the dating rumors, she and Gosling were again seen together during the after-party of his film "Blue Valentine" in New York that December. An eyewitness told the outlet that the two looked suspiciously cozy. "They weren't obviously all over each other, but it seemed like they were together," the source claimed. "There were times when they would be sitting down and he would kind of lay his hand on her knee. They were smiling, laughing, they looked happy!"
Sources close to the pair confirmed that the two were casually dating. "They've been out a few times and are definitely into each other, but I don't think it's super serious or anything right now," a friend of Gosling told E!. "But I could see it becoming more." Gosling — who previously dated his "The Notebook" co-star Rachel McAdams — was reportedly seeing other girls at the same time he was dating Lively. But when asked about the rumors, the "Drive" actor played it coy and only said of Lively (via People), "She's an incredible actress. She's a good friend." Things ultimately fizzled out between the pair and the two called things off before 2011.
Remember when Ryan was also linked to this famous actor?
When it comes to Ryan Gosling's past relationships, another former girlfriend who is often forgotten by fans, and understandably so, is "2 Broke Girls" star Kat Dennings. He and Dennings were briefly linked in 2009 after a fan spotted them together at — surprise, surprise — Gosling's favorite place on Earth: Disneyland. With no photographic evidence of their date, Dennings all but confirmed the outing when she took to Twitter on the same day to talk about being "kidnapped to Disneyland." "My eyes were closed until a big flashing Mickey balloon was in front of my face ... Best surprise ever," she wrote in her since-deleted tweet.
Nevertheless, the "WandaVision" star — who is now engaged to singer Andrew W.K. — remained evasive when asked about those rumors by MTV News. "I don't know. I can't talk about my personal life," the actor said. She did, however, 'fess up about not seeing "The Notebook" starring Gosling and Rachel McAdams. Gasp! "I swear to God I'm the only girl alive who hasn't seen it," she quipped. When pressed about their status, Dennings — who has been similarly linked to Tom Hiddleston and Josh Groban but is notoriously private about her love life — offered to talk about her beloved cat instead. "I do not talk about my personal life. Ask me about my cat though, I'll talk about my cat," she said.
