Where Britney Spears Stands With Her Mom Lynne Following Their Feud
Britney Spears and her mom, Lynne Spears, have hit a number of lows over the years. As fans know, Britney entered conservatorship in February 2008. While Britney's father, Jamie Spears, primarily took charge, Lynne asked to be involved in the singer's monetary decisions in 2020, per Us Weekly. While Lynne spoke candidly about her feelings regarding the conservatorship, she also shared that she couldn't reveal too much. In a July 2021 article for The New Yorker, she said, "I got mixed feelings about everything. I don't know what to think. ... It's a lot of pain, a lot of worry."
When Britney's conservatorship ended in November 2021, the star expressed anger toward her mother in a since-deleted Instagram post. E! News reported she wrote, "Psssss my dad may have started the conservatorship 13 years ago ... but what people don't know is that my mom is the one who gave him the idea !!!! I will never get those years back ... she secretly ruined my life."
Unsurprisingly, Lynne did not make the guest list for Britney and Sam Asghari's wedding in June 2022. Just recently, some notable shifts have arisen for Britney and Lynne. So, where does the mother-daughter duo stand now?
Britney Spears and Lynne Spears reunited
Besides voicing her distress, Lynne Spears has made it clear that she's been yearning to repair her relationship with Britney Spears. In August 2022, Lynne expressed her unconditional love for her daughter on Instagram. She detailed her hopes for reconciliation, writing, "I have never and will never turn my back on you! Your rejections to the countless times I have flown out and calls make me feel hopeless! I have tried everything. I love you so much, but this talk is for you and me only, eye to eye, in private."
It took some time, but Lynne's wishes were eventually fulfilled. In May 2023, TMZ reported that Lynne came to Los Angeles to reunite with Britney. Apparently, the "Gimme More" singer and her mom talked things out in Britney's home for about 30 minutes. Insiders say that the two are on the mend and have been exchanging text messages. Sources added that Lynne is "committed to making it right with her daughter."
Britney Spears is feeling the love
As it turns out, Lynne Spears tried to resolve things with Britney Spears back in November 2021, weeks before her conservatorship ended. According to Page Six, Lynne took a flight from Louisiana to Los Angeles in hopes of turning a corner with her daughter. However, Britney refused to let her mother into her home. An insider told the outlet, "She [Britney] is furious with her. Lynne tried over a number of days to try to visit, but Britney just shut her down."
Britney was much more receptive to her mother's efforts this time around. In May 2023, the star took to Instagram to share some details about her reunion with Lynne. She wrote, "My sweet mama showed up at my door step yesterday after 3 years ... it's been such a long time ... with family there's always things that need to be worked out ... but time heals all wounds !!!" She mentioned that she had some bottled-up emotions, but expressing them helped the two move forward. Britney wrapped up her post on a lighthearted note, adding, "Psss... I'm so blessed we can have coffee together after 14 years !!! Let's go shopping afterwards !!!"
