What We Know About Lily-Rose Depp's Girlfriend, Rapper 070 Shake
Lily-Rose Depp is no stranger to making headlines — for her nepo baby status, her career, or her love life. The actor and model has been linked to stars such as Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler but is notorious for keeping her relationships private. "Growing up in a family like I did, it was always something that was... I always learned the importance of privacy and valuing that and keeping things just for yourself," the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis explained on "The Drew Barrymore Show" in 2021 (via E! News). "And so that's something that I've carried on into my own career, and that's really important to me."
More recently, Depp has been linked to French rapper Yassine Stein after the two were spotted on several PDA-filled outings. However, they split up in 2022 after less than a year of dating, with the "Idol" star soon moving onto a new relationship with another rising musician — rapper 070 Shake.
Rumors about their romance started swirling in February 2023 after Depp and 070 Shake (real name: Danielle Balbuena) were spotted getting cozy during Paris Fashion Week. After weeks of speculation, Depp confirmed their relationship by posting a sweet kissing snap with 070 Shake on her Instagram Stories. "4 MONTHS W MY CRUSH," she captioned the photo (via Page Six). It seems that Depp and her girlfriend are madly in love with each other, but what exactly do we know about 070 Shake?
070 Shake has worked with Ye and Madonna
070 Shake is a rapper who hails from North Bergen, New Jersey. Her debut single "Trust Nobody" was released in 2016. She grabbed attention in 2018 when she appeared on Kanye West's eighth studio album, "Ye" as a featured artist on the tracks "Ghost Town" and "Violent Crimes." In a video feature for Billboard, 070 Shake said it was through a friend that she was discovered and then signed onto West's G.O.O.D. Music record label back in 2017. "A girl in my town that became famous on Instagram met someone in G.O.O.D. Music and showed them my music and Kanye heard it, and then he sent someone working in G.O.O.D. Music to come look for me," she said. "Two weeks prior, I was like, 'I wouldn't sign to anybody besides G.O.O.D. Music' and then two weeks later they just reached out to me."
Since working with Ye, 070 Shake has released her own debut EP "Glitter" (2018), and studio albums "Modus Vivendi" (2020) and "You Can't Kill Me" (2022). She's also collaborated with other artists, including Kid Cudi, DJ Khaled, Nas, Raye, and even the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. Chatting with 032c magazine, the 25-year-old artist shared that it's her love of music that has kept her going throughout all these years. "What gave me this drive was that this is all I got," she said. "This is all I have. If it's not this, [then] there's nothing."
070 Shake used to date Kehlani
Before Lily-Rose Depp, 070 Shake has had relationships with other women including Instagram model Sophia Diana Lodato and R&B musician Kehlani. She and Kehlani — who had long identified as queer before coming out as a lesbian in 2021 — confirmed they were an item through the music video for the song "melt" from Kehlani's latest album "Blue Water Road."
Previously, 070 Shake had praised Kehlani for being a supportive girlfriend as she opened up about their romance in an interview with the Grammys. "She's such a supportive person to me and she's very, very genuine," Shake gushed. "Honestly, it is just beautiful to have that genuine relationship with somebody. Just them wanting the best for you and being inspired by you and you know, always asking questions." She and Kehlani split sometime around September 2022 after just over a year of dating, per Capital Xtra.
Chatting with Pitchfork in 2018, 070 Shake said she prefers not to put a label on her sexuality, saying "I don't really identify myself as queer or gay or anything." She added, "I just like girls." Shake further explained to Office in 2019 why she isn't interested in labels. "I don't like anything that puts me in a box," explained the rap artist. "All I am is a being of life—nothing else." She then adds, "I hardly even want to call myself a girl, or a boy. I like to think of myself as just being."
