What Bob Odenkirk And Rhea Seehorn's Relationship Is Like In Real Life
Rhea Seehorn's character is known for having Saul Goodman's back on "Better Call Saul," but what do we know about the actors' relationship off-screen?
It's no secret that the cast of "Better Call Saul" gets on well IRL. As Bob Odenkirk told the "Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum" podcast, they're housemates during the shooting season. "It's better than being all alone out there [in Albuquerque]," he pointed out. Odenkirk added that Patrick Fabian, in particular, was a roomie he appreciated having around. "I love getting home, and someone, [Fabian] especially, will make dinner for everybody," he shared. As for what Seehorn has said of the experience, living with her co-stars, she joked in an episode of "The Late Late Show with James Corden" that one of the most memorable things she'd gained was learning about Odenkirk's penchant for a particular garden tool. "He's obsessed with leaf blowers, and like, constantly is trying to convince people that you should give them as gifts," she divulged. Another experience she'll never forget? Watching him gear up for his role in "Nobody." "His wonderful trainer, Daniel Bernhardt, would give him exercises and stuff, but then [Odenkirk]'s just in this normal, like, suburban neighborhood, and people are driving by, and it's Bob Odenkirk out there doing, like horse stance," she laughed.
There's no denying the entire cast shares a pretty decent bond, but our question remains: What do we know about Odenkirk and Seehorn, specifically?
She helped save his life, and he's forever grateful
As "Better Call Saul" fans will be well aware, Bob Odenkirk suffered a major heart attack while filming Season 6. Thankfully, he survived — and Rhea Seehorn played a part in it.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Seehorn recounted the experience. She, Patrick Fabian, and Odenkirk were in the middle of shooting a scene when Odenkirk decided to hop onto an exercise bike during a break. Suddenly, Odenkirk collapsed — and alarm bells went off for both of his co-stars. "We realized something was very wrong and we dove to catch him before he hit the concrete floor, and then realized it was very, very bad, and started yelling for help," Seehorn told the outlet. The actor said the situation became fraught quickly due to their location. "In those airplane-size soundstages, everything was echoing and it was pretty frantic," she remembered.
Odenkirk, it's worth pointing out, has very little recollection of the incident. However, in an episode of "The Howard Stern Show," he shared that without Fabian and Seehorn screaming when they did, he probably wouldn't have made it. "I would have been dead if somebody hadn't immediately screamed and gotten someone there to give me CPR," he acknowledged. He also gave Seehorn a shout-out for protecting his head from the fall — something he doubled down on months later in a tweet. "Rhea, thanks for holding my head off the concrete floor," he wrote.
...and she's equally grateful to have had more time with him
It's pretty clear Bob Odenkirk is grateful to his longtime colleague and close friend, Rhea Seehorn, for raising the alarm when he needed it and protecting him from further injury, but that feeling goes both ways. As Seehorn has made it clear several times, she's plenty grateful herself.
During her interview with Entertainment Weekly, Seehorn explained that she was thankful to have more days with Odenkirk — especially because most people aren't so lucky. Speaking of Odenkirk's wife letting her and Patrick Fabian into the ICU to see him the next morning, she gushed, "It was like, 'Oh my God! Oh! Oh, I get another day?'" It wasn't the first time she'd shared those sentiments either. In fact, immediately after Odenkirk addressed the heart attack via social media, she'd taken to Instagram to share her love for him. "I cannot express my relief & gratitude. Nor can I find the words to say how much I love you, and your family, my friend," she wrote.
It certainly bears mentioning that Seehorn and Odenkirk's relationship goes far beyond the trauma they went through together. Case in point: When Odenkirk received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Seehorn was one of the speakers at the ceremony. So, what does Seehorn and Odenkirk's relationship look like, IRL? A whole lot of love — and even more gratitude.
