Strange Things About Meghan Trainor And Daryl Sabara's Marriage
What happens when a "Spy Kid" and "Mother" meet and get married? Well, lots of love, for one, and two, a little bit of weirdness. While we are big fans of actor Daryl Sabara and pop superstar Meghan Trainor, we have to admit there are aspects of their marriage that strike us as kind of strange. We're talking twin toilets, family honeymoons, and a slew of TMI that truly no one asked for.
These two are really into each other, and have been from the very start of their relationship. Some might say they're even too close, but what goes on behind closed (and soundproof) doors is none of our business. Luckily, Trainor has made it our business by speaking so frankly about her marriage to Sabara and frankly we are here for it. Keep reading to learn about the odd things that make this couple tick, and why they're all about that shave, 'bout that shave, no stubble.
Their first dates were kind of childish
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara's love story began back in 2016 with a little help from Trainor's pal Chloe Grace Moretz. "I asked her to set me up on a date with the nicest guy ever. And she was like, 'Well, that's my friend Daryl,'" Trainor told People. "It was kind of like a middle school date." And the middle school vibes continued, as Moretz joined the couple on a dinner date a few days later. Trainor told ET Canada, "When I got up to pee [Moretz] was like, 'Do you love her?' [Sabara] was like, 'Well, of course I do, but don't say anything. I'll look crazy.' Then he went to pee and she was like, 'He loves you, do you love him?'"
The answer was a resounding yes, and Trainor was very vocal about her feelings for Sabara. "I kept screaming it in rehearsals, 'I'm in love, and I don't care who knows it! ... I definitely was positive month one when he was on tour with me," she shared with People. And she wasn't shy about letting Sabara know she thought he was the one. "I wrote six songs on the road about him in front of his face. One is called 'Marry Me,'" Trainor revealed in a 2017 interview with Cosmopolitan.
For Sabara's part, it seems he was just as smitten with Trainor. In fact, for the "Spy Kids" star it was love at first sight. "As soon as she walked in the room and I saw her, I just knew: This is the one," he told People.
The couple had a 'familymoon' instead of a honeymoon
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara were married in a beautiful backyard ceremony in December of 2018. And from the proposal to the honeymoon, this couple's union was a family affair. Not only did Sabara ask Trainor's parents for their blessing before popping the question, he made sure the whole family and some friends were present when he proposed. Trainor posted a video of the happy event, taken by her older brother, Ryan, on her Instagram. "He proposed to me under a tunnel of beautiful Christmas lights and surprised me with my family and friends ... I've never been this happy!" read the caption in part.
Many people have friends and family there to witness a marriage proposal, but do they hang around for the honeymoon? For Trainor and Sabara, having family join them on their post-nuptial vacay was part of what made it so special. Both of Trainor's parents, along with her brothers, accompanied the newlyweds to Bora Bora for what the couple dubbed as their "familymoon." Sabara took to took to Instagram to gush about the amazing time they were having, captioning a photo of his bride with, "best honeymoon/familymoon all because of my wife/love of my life."
They were overly eager to become parents
As soon as they were married, Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara were more than ready to take the next step and start a family. "If we could do it how we want to, we'd be, like, totally preggo right now!" Trainor told People in an interview just weeks after the couple's wedding. Trainor also shared with NPR that she'd always dreamed of motherhood, and preferred baby dolls to Barbies as a kid. And apparently her biological clock began ticking when she was quite young. "In my early 20s, I would walk by diapers at Target or something and would start crying because I'm like, well, I should be getting those," the singer said.
Trainor told People that she and Sabara were not just wanting to have babies, they were actively preparing themselves for parenthood. "We're both so excited for it. We both constantly watch baby YouTube videos and lessons on YouTube, like 'How to take care of an infant.' We're just getting prepared every single day." It seems just a tad bit odd to be watching parenting videos before even getting pregnant, right?
But hopefully all that YouTube scrolling came in handy, as Trainor and Sabara welcomed their son Riley in February 2021. As of May 2023, Trainor is pregnant with the couple's second child and has learned enough that she can impart wisdom to other expecting moms. Her book, "Dear Future Mama: A TMI Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Motherhood from Your Bestie" was published in April 2023.
The couple lives with Meghan's brothers
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara are so lovey-dovey with one another, it comes as a surprise that the couple does not live alone. In fact, they share their Los Angeles home with Trainor's two brothers, Justin and Ryan. While the Trainor siblings are super close, isn't this a little too close for comfort? But Trainor insisted in an interview with People that she and her hubby have plenty of privacy. "The doors are soundproof! They have their own side of the house — we call it the man cave — so I barely see them," she said.
The Trainor siblings not only live together, but work together as well. Both Justin and Ryan have collaborated with Trainor in the studio, each listed as co-writers and backup vocalists on her album "Treat Myself." But even that is simply not enough quality time together, apparently. "I would be very sad if they moved out," Trainor said. "Everywhere I go my family comes with me."
So, how does Sabara feel about sharing his love nest with his wife's bros? Well, he seems cool with it. In 2020, to promote Trainor's holiday album "A Very Trainor Christmas," Ryan posted a pic on Instagram of the whole Trainor clan plus Sabara all dressed in matching Christmas jammies huddled around the tree. Cute or creepy?
Meghan Trainor's family knows all about her sex life
The doors in Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara's house may be soundproof, but that doesn't stop Trainor's brothers from hearing all about the couple's sex life. According to Access, Trainor was not shy about telling her family when she and Sabara were trying to conceive. And not just in the general sense. The singer said she got very specific when sharing the news with her brothers. "I was like, 'Hey, we're trying for a baby tonight.' I'm announcing it," Trainor said. "I'm also obsessed with the science of it, so I'm like, 'Guys, if I'm pregnant, I'm implanting right now!'"
As, um, unconventional as that sounds, at least Trainor's brothers reacted as one might expect. That is to say, they were appropriately grossed out. "They're like, 'Ugh,'" Trainor told Access, adding that, icked out or not, her brothers didn't have a choice in the matter. "They're my best friends. They're gonna hear it whether they like it or not," the singer explained.
...And so does the rest of the world
In April 2023, Meghan Trainor shared some serious TMI about her husband Daryl Sabara on an episode of her "Workin' On It" podcast, saying "My husband is a big boy. My p***y is broken ... I have p***y anxiety." Trainor revealed this info not just to her listeners and her guest Trisha Paytas, but also to her co-host, you guessed it, brother Ryan Trainor.
And Trainor didn't stop there. She got right down to the graphic details, explaining that Sabara is well-endowed "to the point where I'm like 'Is it all in?' and he's like, 'Just the tip.' And I'm like, 'I can't do anymore.' How do I fix that?" Yikes, girl! We wonder if Sabara really minded this big news getting out though.
This was not the first time Trainor got extra candid about her sex life with Sabara. Back before the two were even married, she told Cosmopolitan, "I never really felt sexy with guys before. No one expressed how they liked my body out loud in the bedroom until I met Daryl. He is obsessed with it — every inch." And as she explained how much that boosted her confidence, she gave Sabara another compliment. "He's a champion, so we're in heaven," she said.
They share a bathroom (in a bizarre way)
Most couples do have to share a bathroom, and there's nothing strange about it. Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara, however, take the idea of doing business together to a whole new level. That's right, they have side by side toilets in their bathroom and they're not afraid to use them — at the same time.
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Trainor showed the audience a pic of the infamous toilets, sharing, "This is the best thing about my house. It's my favorite part of the house." As unsettling as it seems, apparently the bathroom setup was designed out of necessity, as Trainor explained to E News. "The amount of times that we pee at the same time in the middle of the night makes me so grateful that I have two toilets because I don't have to wait for him or he doesn't have to wait for me," she said, adding, "We're so in sync. It is gross, but I love it."
In response to fan reactions to the couple's bathroom habits, Trainor tweeted something that didn't exactly help: "To clear things up...we pooped ONCE together and we laughed and said never again...but he will hang out with me if I'm [pooping] cuz WE SOULMATES." We maybe could have done without that clarification!
She has been very candid about Daryl Sabara's help during her pregnancies
Meghan Trainor and Daryl Sabara obviously care about each other deeply, and it seems they got even closer during Trainor's pregnancies. Just not physically closer, as the couple didn't have sex at all when Trainor was pregnant with their son Riley. "Maybe this is weird, but mentally I can't have sex while our son is in between us," Trainor shared with Today. "All my pregnancy apps say it feels really good. But all I can think about is that there's a little boy in my belly."
It turned out that Sabara was a huge help post-pregnancy, like above and beyond level helpful. "He changed my diapers, he would take the bloody underwear for me and throw it away... I had a C-section; how do I bend down to pick up my underwear and my diapers? Because you have to wear diapers after," Trainor told People. And Trainor acknowledged that she was lucky her husband was willing to take on these extra, not so cute, responsibilities, saying, "I'm like, 'How do people survive without a Daryl?'"
Sabara proved to be a big help in another way as well. Before Trainor gave birth, Sabara took on grooming duty. "He shaved everything. For the C-section, I don't know why, but I was like, 'I want a clear path ... And he did that for me," Trainor told People. We have to admit, strange or not, it does sound like true love!
