Mac Miller's death took a toll on Post Malone
When rapper Mac Miller died of an accidental drug overdose in 2018, his many friends in the music industry shared their condolences. Post Malone was among the celebrities who honored the late star. During a concert in Miller's home city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Malone wore a shirt that read "R.I.P Mac Miller." As fans many already know, the rappers were close and often spent time together. In fact, Malone revealed that he was with Miller just days before his death. The friends were even planning on releasing music together.
"We were going to make an album," Malone said during an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music in 2019. "We were sitting there playing beer pong and we were like, 'Let's make a f**king album.'" The rapper went on to recall a startling incident just days following Miller's death. "We were at an Airbnb in L.A. and all of a sudden the TV turns on, and on the TV [news of Miller's death] wouldn't stop," he explained to Lowe. "We tried disconnecting it and all this s**t, and then we turned it off and it came back on. I was just like this is f***king weird and it gives me chills." He even praised Miller's character. "What an incredible, honestly, what a genuine human being," Malone said. He also took to Twitter to pen a heartfelt message following Miller's death.
He had to defend Lil Peep following his death
Post Malone lost a close friend again after Lil Peep died in 2017. It was eventually revealed that the star died of a Fentanyl and Xanax overdose. This sparked a conversation around drug use in the music industry. "I've never heard any of Lil Peep's music but these dudes losing themselves to drugs is depressing I'll be happy when the culture stops glorifying drug addictions," one Twitter user wrote.
Malone addressed these reactions to Lil Peep's death during an interview on the "H3 Podcast" in 2017. He shared he didn't appreciate those who criticized Lil Peep for his struggles with drug abuse. "Here's my whole issue," Malone said. "I think it's f***ed up that he literally had just passed, and all the people on the internet were like, 'here kids this is an example: stop f***ing glorifying drugs in hip-hop.'"
He went on to share why he wasn't in support of these opinions. "It's not like anybody asked to A: get hooked on s**t, and B: have issues within yourself that something makes you feel better and you can't help it," the rapper argued. "This dude just died and everybody takes it as a prime opportunity to shame people who may have issues with drugs, instead of supporting them."

Post Malone was involved in a scary plane incident
Post Malone was involved in a terrifying emergency plane landing in 2019. It was reported that the pilot was forced to land after two tires blew out, but an investigation conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration later revealed there were other factors at play that could have led to an even scarier outcome. According to USA Today, the investigation concluded that the plane "exceeded its maximum gross takeoff weight," and the "maximum gross landing weight."
The Federal Aviation Administration also revealed, "The flight crew did not comply with the manufacturer's procedures for wheel brake cooling times after an overweight landing. The aircraft maximum gross takeoff weight was exceeded for the second takeoff from KTEB." It was ultimately determined that the emergency landing was due to "Pilot-induced error."
Post Malone isn't a fan of plane rides, so it's perhaps no surprise that this was quite an unpleasant experience for him. "I'm terrified of flying in the first place, so every time I get on a flight, I always try my best to fall asleep," Malone told Billboard in 2018. "But this one ...I wasn't tired, so we got on the plane, we took off. There was a censor malfunction up front, so we had to turn around and land again." He shared that the plane continued to malfunction after it took off a second time, which likely induced even more anxiety.
His car crashed through a fence
It seems that Post Malone experienced a scary string of bad luck after his plane incident because he got into a car accident just days later. Malone was in the passenger seat of a white Rolls Royce driven by his assistant when they crashed into another vehicle and a fence. The rapper took to social media to react to the accident. He shared a tweet that read, "god must hate me lol."
As if this wasn't shocking enough, Malone was the target of a home invasion within the same month as his car crash. Robbers broke into a house that once belonged to the "Congratulations" rapper but he was nowhere to be found as he had relocated. The thieves didn't walk away empty-handed, though. They got lucky and were still able to snag $20k worth of valuables.
TMZ reported that one of the robbers shouted "Where's Post Malone?!" when they entered the home. Although Malone was no longer staying in the house, it seems that whoever the thieves stole from may have been just as wealthy considering the value of everything they removed from the home.
Post Malone sustained a rib injury on stage
Life had no mercy on Post Malone following his plane incident, car accident, and attempted robbery. The star faced another hardship in September 2022 when he suffered an injury during a concert in St. Louis, Missouri. He fell into a trap door in the stage and had to receive medical assistance. The rapper took a brief break and returned to finish the concert. After the show, Malone took to Twitter to address concerned fans.
"So whenever we do the acoustic part of the show, the guitar is on the guitar stand and it goes down," the rapper said, explaining what the door in the stage is used for. "There's this big a** hole, so I go around there and I turn the corner and bust my a**." Malone also updated fans on his condition following the seemingly painful fall. "We just got back from the hospital and everything's good," he revealed. "They gave me some pain meds and everything so we can keep kicking a** on the tour." Malone went on to apologize to St. Louis fans, thank them, and offer a 2-hour concert the next time he's in the city. Fans appeared to be thrilled with how the star handled the situation. "We love you and we're glad you're okay!," one user wrote in reply to his Twitter video. "You don't have to apologize, we know you give us 110%."
Post Malone addressed fans who spoke about his weight
Post Malone's tattoos are arguably his most recognizable feature. It turns out that the rapper's decision to get so many tattoos was due in part to an insecurity. During an interview with GQ, Malone revealed that he isn't all that confident when it comes to his looks. "I'm a ugly-a** motherf***er," he told the magazine. We think that's a bit harsh, but the rapper explained how he uses his tattoos to cope with his lack of confidence. He shared, "It does maybe come from a place of insecurity, to where I don't like how I look, so I'm going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, 'You look cool, kid,' and have a modicum of self-confidence, when it comes to my appearance."
Unfortunately for Malone, the internet hasn't always been kind to him regarding his appearance. Fans even nominated the star to undergo a makeover on the show "Queer Eye." Karamo Brown, who is a "Queer Eye" cast member, took to Twitter to ask why he was receiving so many requests for Malone to receive a makeover on the show. He even questioned whether the star asked to appear on "Queer Eye" himself. The rapper replied, "no they just think I'm ugly and smell lol. love the show tho guys, keep crushing it."
He struggled with depression
Many celebrities are brave enough to come forward and speak about their mental health struggles. Post Malone shared his experience with depression during an interview on The Howard Stern Show in 2022. He explained how he struggled during his time in school. "I remember, like almost my entire I'd say the last year of middle school, the first year of high school was – I didn't sit with anybody at the lunch table and I just sat there with my head in my hands and I was just like 'I don't know and I don't understand and I don't know what the f**k is going on with anyone." Malone went on to reveal that he didn't discuss his struggles with his parents. Thankfully, his passion for music helped him cope.
During a separate segment of the show, Malone opened up about struggling with alcohol consumption in the past. Stern asked the rapper if he ever received help working through his problems. "No sir, I never got help with it," he responded. "I just have super beautiful people around me and I met a really beautiful person that made me feel like a human being again." Malone confirmed that he was referring to his girlfriend. He went on to share that he has also received support from friends, but he has a hard time being told what to do. The rapper admitted this is something he's working on.
