Is Captain Glenn From Below Deck Sailing Yacht In A Relationship?

With over twenty years of experience, Glenn Shephard has paid his dues in the sailing industry. Therefore, it was only fitting that in 2020 when Bravo launched season 1 of "Below Deck Sailing Yacht," he was cast as a captain. And while being in charge of a luxurious ship sounds like the dream job for many, Shephard has in the past admitted that it is not all rosy. "What we do is not for everyone. It's hard," he told Travel + Leisure in a 2022 interview. "My friends see my photos on social media and they think I have a great life and I'm like, 'Go sleep in your walk-in closet for a month.'"

Despite the occasional unfavorable conditions experienced on the job, Shephard has earned a reputation for his calm demeanor — even in stressful situations. "Deal with it and move forward," he once told The Things of his approach to deal with things. "The most important thing is to not get flustered. Just assess the situation, and try to find the best solution." Unsurprisingly, Shephard's untainted reputation quickly ranked him high on the list of fan favorites. 

However, despite constantly being in front of the cameras, this sailor has managed to keep his personal life as private as possible. Fans of the show have been left wondering whether or not their favorite cast member has a special person in his life.

In June 2021, after "Below Deck Sailing Yacht" star Sydney Zaruba revealed that she had been dating a captain on the boat for five months, rumors started swirling that she was dating Glenn Shephard. Fueling the rumors even more, Zaruba took to Instagram, dedicating a lengthy thank-you post to Shephard. "I want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to join superyachting," Zaruba started. "You gave me a home away from home in Parsifal — and for that, I will ever be grateful for." Shephard, however, did not let the rumor fester for too long as he soon shared on social media that he and Zaruba were not dating. "I guess the news is out," he captioned the same Instagram picture of himself and Zaruba. "And the news is that Syd and I are great friends. And she's dating a captain. A different captain."

Prior to the Zaruba dating rumor, Shephard had opened up about his relationship status in a Daily Beast interview where he revealed he was single. One year later, however, the tune had changed. Speaking to Bravo's The Daily Dish in May 2022, the reality star hinted at a new relationship but added they were not ready to go public. "There's someone in my life, but we don't really want that out in the public eye, at this stage anyway. Maybe in the future." But the future was not so far away, as he soon introduced the mystery woman to the world.

Six months after hinting he was in a relationship, Glenn Shephard gave fans a glimpse at his new woman in an Instagram post. "Sat next to this lovely lady on the Emirates flight here to Mexico City yesterday. I was like: if you don't talk to her you're an idiot," he teased. "She was very nice but I did have to squabble with her a bit over the window seat." The following month, Shephard shared another post revealing more details about his girlfriend. "Danelis or as I prefer to call her Mia Moore, is from the Dominican Republic. We first started dating back before the first season of BDSY, I was based in Genoa and she was living in Milan," he wrote. 

Writing further, the reality star described his relationship with Danelis as complicated due to the language barrier between them. While Shephard speaks English, Danelis seemingly mostly speaks Spanish. "We communicate in a bastardized form of Spanglish, with about 80% being butchered Span and the remaining 20% broken Glish," he explained. Despite this challenge, however, the couple has found a way to make their love work with Shephard describing her as one of the best people he has ever met.
