Julianne Hough Has 3 Other Siblings Besides Her Brother Derek Hough
"Dancing With The Stars" has made many household names, but maybe none so much as Julianne Hough and her brother, Derek. The two blonde dancers made a big splash on the series, becoming champions with their respective celebrity dance partners, and both went to star in live TV musicals. As Good Housekeeping reported, Julianne starred as Sandy in "Grease Live," which also starred Vanessa Hudgens and Aaron Tveit. Derek, on the other hand, starred as Corny Collins in "Hairspray Live!" along with Ariana Grande and Kristin Chenoweth.
The two are obviously very close and that bond goes further than just two siblings who both made it in Hollywood. "I am so thankful to have the opportunity to share something that I love, with someone that I love," Derek wrote on Instagram in 2017 about Julianne. "You're an incredible sister and even more so an amazing human being." But did you know that they're not the only Hough siblings? There are three other sisters that you might not have known about.
Julianne Hough has three sisters
Of course, the most well-known sibling of Julianne Hough's is her brother, Derek Hough. The two of them made their mark in the dancing world through "Dancing With The Stars" and have both grown to so many other things since being on the show. "Oh my gosh we literally can't get rid of each other," Julianne told E! News in 2018 about her brother, Derek. "The other day I was telling him that I don't feel right. He was like, 'Go dance. Go write a song. Go do something.' He knows me so well." And despite seeming like twins, they are about three years apart — and the two have three sisters that not everyone might know about.
The Hough siblings consist of Sharee, Marabeth, and Katherine — alongside Derek and Julianne. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported in 2018 that after the Hough parents got divorced, their mother, Marriann, married financial consultant Aaron Nelson in 1998. With the five Hough children and Nelson's own four children, they had a massive blended family. Bruce Hough, their father, got remarried in 2000 to Debra Hough.
While all of the Hough siblings have professional and/or personal social media profiles, they aren't photographed together very often. So fans love it when they do post together, as Hello Magazine shared. Julianne shared a "rare" post in 2021 that had fans writing things like, "Everyone in the Hough family is beautiful."
The Houghs have a long line of dancing in their family history
Julianne Hough started competitive dancing at 10 years old, and obviously she enjoyed it enough to continue. But dancing also is in her blood. According to Heavy, both sets of the Hough grandparents were dancers. Dancing is obviously a part of their family history, but Julianne's three sisters don't dance professionally.
Sharee Hough Selman is the oldest Hough child and got married in 2018 to Mark Selman. As her Instagram bio says, Sharee has six kids and is a business owner. She has her own company called Hough Werks, where people can purchase "on-demand & live fitness classes." Next up is Marabeth Poole, the second oldest. She identifies herself as a "wife, mother, realtor" among other things on her Instagram. Plus she's a musician who also dabbles in holistic health as a certified coach. Her Instagram showcases wonderful aerial shots of the houses she's selling and with over 24k followers, she's probably crushing it.
And lastly, before Derek and Julianne were born, is Katherine Hough. She has three daughters and is an esthetician. She owns a company called Skin by Katherine and her Instagram boasts that she's been an esthetician for "20+ years." Her husband, YouTube content creator Tony Schnur, died in February 2023 due to Glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer, that he was diagnosed with two years prior.
Julianne Hough is related to a former Disney Channel star
Even though Julianne Hough's sisters didn't go the dancing route, that doesn't mean that the Houghs are the only famous ones in their family. They're actually cousins with the "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" star Ross Lynch. Of course, this means they're also cousins with the other Lynch siblings who were in the now-defunct band, R5. The Lynches are second cousins to the Houghs because their maternal grandmothers were sisters. The Lynches and Houghs don't seem to spend much time together, but Julianne Hough did show support for her cousins in a tweet from 2013.
Then in 2014, there were rumors that Ross could join the "Dancing With The Stars" cast. This came after Ross and Riker Lynch attended a live show, appearing on "DWTS All Access." It was also during the height of "Austin & Ally," the Disney Channel show Ross had his big break on. "Ross! He would be amazing. He would do really well," Hough told HollywoodLife in regards to these rumors. "Any of the Lynches would do amazing. All of my cousins!" However, Ross allegedly turned down the offer for "DWTS" several times; Riker Lynch ended up being the celebrity Lynch that went on the ballroom dancing show instead. And Julianne was right; Riker Lynch and his partner Allison Holker made it to second place (beating out his cousin Derek Hough, who was partnered with Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin).
