When she attempted to rescue a Syrian child
Lindsay Lohan to the rescue — or not. The "Mean Girls" star had everyone questioning her actions when she went on Instagram Live to document her strange attempt to help a family of Syrian refugees. While we're not really sure what qualifications the actor has to question the family in the video, she accuses the parents of two young boys of trafficking their children. Lohan, in what appears to be some form of Arabic, pleads with the family to let her take them to a hotel — which is met by confused stares.
The 2018 video is believed to be filmed while Lohan was in Moscow, as the actor had posted a snap of herself in the country around the same time. "Hey everyone I just want to show you a family that I met, a Syrian refugee family," the "Freaky Friday" actor said, adding, "Tell me your story so that I can help you. What do you need? Do you want me to give you a hotel? So I want you to tell America what you need and I will get it for you."
The video ended in disaster, however, as the family refused Lohan's help — though the actor continued to persist. When the family begins to walk away, Lohan attempts to grab one of the boys' hands. A scuffle ensues, and Lohan's phone drops to the ground while the family leaves. "I'm like in shock right now, I'm just like so scared," she said following the incident.
The ice cream incident
Off all the things the Lohan name could be associated with — nobody would guess a controversy involving ice cream. Dina Lohan made headlines in 2011 when the matriarch attempted to order a Carvel ice cream cake in Long Island using her daughter Ali's Carvel "Black Card" — which essentially allows her free ice cream for life. Dina was denied a birthday cake for her son's birthday after she couldn't present the correct identification, and the card was confiscated.
Rina told Radar that all members of her family have the special card, but she mistakenly grabbed the wrong one. "I couldn't believe this guy... it's a family card, it just didn't have my name on it," she said, adding, "Next minute, four cop cars showed up, there's a police helicopter overhead and this guy makes it seem to the cops that I'm trying to use a stolen credit card — and for what? Over a free ice cream?!"
Carvel released their own statement on what can only be referred to as "Ice Cream Gate." They told Radar, "As part of Carvel's 75th Anniversary celebration last year, we issued 75 Black Cards to celebrities. These cards were issued in the celebrity's name and require the cardholder to be present at the time of use." The company went on to add, "Unfortunately, the Lohan family has been abusing the card. While the card was issued in Lindsay's name only, her extended family has repeatedly used the card without her present."
When her ankle monitor inspired a fashion trend
Who knew an ankle monitor could inspire a fashion trend? Lindsay Lohan probably wasn't imagining her probation accessory would inspire a runway shoe trend when she stepped out with it in 2007. The "Just My Luck" actor was fitted with the ankle bracelet following her 2007 DUI arrest in which she crashed her Mercedes Benz in Beverly Hills in the early hours of the morning.
Lohan accessorized her bikini and heels when she posed next to a surfboard wearing the monitor, and the Internet went wild. Shortly after, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld launched his Spring 2008 line for Chanel, which featured tweed heels complete with tiny ankle purses. "If I end up having to wear an ankle bracelet I'm only doing it if I have this for it," one user commented on a throwback Instagram photo of the heels.
While Lagerfeld never confirmed exactly what inspired his shoe line, many fans put the pieces together given his close relationship with the actor. Lohan was photographed by the designer for her 2022 Interview Magazine cover story, and the "Mean Girls" star was also seen getting cozy on his lap in photos posted on Twitter. Over a decade after the shoes met the catwalk, people are still talking about them. "Lindsay Lohan's influence >>>," one user tweeted. "I need them," another wrote.

Her $100 million lawsuit against a baby named Lindsay
It's not uncommon for celebrities to sue for just about anything — and Lindsay Lohan's case was no different. The "Falling For Christmas" star was less than pleased when she tuned into the 2010 Super Bowl only to find the online investment company E-Trade using a baby named "Lindsay" to advertise its internet trading. At the end of the 30-second ad, one of the babies says, "And that milkaholic Lindsay wasn't over?"
According to CBS News, the "Mean Girls" star took this as a jab at her own public struggles with alcohol and sued the company for $100 million. E-Trade clapped back and said that Lohan's claims were baseless due to the fact that there are millions of people named Lindsay in the world. The two parties ended up settling the lawsuit out of court, putting the "Milkaholic" baby to rest — but there's no telling if Lohan got anywhere close to the $100 million she requested.
At the time of the lawsuit, the "Freaky Friday" star had her own legal battles to fight. She had a warrant out for her arrest after failing a drug test upon leaving a stint in rehab. She wrote in a since-deleted tweet at the time, "Substance abuse is a disease, which unfortunately doesn't go away overnight. I am working hard to overcome it."

She illegally entered India
Lindsay Lohan traded her red carpet outfits for a more humble look when she went to India to partake in a British Documentary titled "Lindsay Lohan's Indian Journey." The 2010 film shed light on human trafficking and poverty challenges the country faced. Set in West Bengal, Lohan was featured speaking with children about their desperate situations, attempting to uncover answers about how the country could go forward.
It was a journey for Lohan indeed, one that she may have embarked on illegally. Indian authorities were alerted to Lohan's visit after the star took to Twitter to make some shocking claims. "Over 40 children saved so far ... Within one day's work ... This is what life is about ... Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!" she wrote in since-deleted tweets at the time. Suspicions arose when it was revealed that the "Mean Girls" star had yet to step foot in India at the time of the alleged raid. Indian officials then realized that the actor had come into the country on a tourist visa, instead of a work visa which was required for her role in the documentary.
Bhuwan Ribhu, who works for the Indian organization Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save Childhood Campaign) told ABC News, "During the course of filming, she visited one of our rehabilitation facilities," adding, "We did not know about her visa status because we were working with the BBC, not her, specifically." While her current status with the Indian government is unclear, officials were considering banning the star from re-entry at the time of the mix-up.
Her infamous run-ins with the law
It's no secret that Lindsay Lohan has had her fair share of legal problems that have been heavily publicized during her career. According to E! News, the first instance of her bad girl behavior came in May 2007 when the Hollywood star was arrested for a DUI and having cocaine after she took her Mercedes for an early-morning spin that ended in a wreck.
Just two short months later, Lohan was taken to jail after she once again got behind the wheel of a car after drinking and cocaine possession. She pled guilty a month later to a misdemeanor for using cocaine and a DUI which landed her one day in jail, some community service, and three years of probation. Her troubles didn't end there, however. The actor was slapped with bail fees in 2010 for missing a court date to attend the Cannes film festival and for her ankle monitor sounding off after an MTV Movie Awards afterparty.
When she skipped out on court-ordered alcohol education classes, Lohan donned a prison jumpsuit in July 2010 and served a two-week sentence before overcrowding set her free. A failed drug test landed the star in rehab that same year, but her time behind bars made her none the wiser. In April 2011, Lohan went back to jail on a violation of probation charges for her 2007 arrest, and at the same time, she received a misdemeanor for stealing a $2,500 necklace. Overcrowding saved her once again, and she served the rest of her sentence on house arrest.

She was evicted from a luxury hotel
Not many celebrities can add getting evicted from 5-star hotels to their list of accolades. Lindsay Lohan fits the bill, however, as the "Just My Luck" star racked up over $46,000 dollars worth of debt during her two month-stay at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles in 2012. The hotel manager sent the "Mean Girls" star a letter ordering the actor to leave the premises after management made several repeated attempts to settle the bill with Lohan.
Sources close to the star revealed that Lohan was under the impression that while she was filming "Liz & Dick," producers would cover the charges. The producers clearly had a different idea, however, and the star was effectively banned from the property until she cleared her debt. According to "The Castle on Sunset: Life, Death, Love, Art, and Scandal" Shawn Levy spilled the tea on Lohan's wild times at the hotel — and the singer's history with the Chateau Marmont goes back to 2010. That's the year she had a screaming match with singer Avril Lavigne, where little did she know her disputes at the hotel were far from over.
Levy claims in the tell-all book that Lohan spent $700 on cigarettes, $3,000 on restaurant and mini-bar charges, and $400 on pay-per-view movies during her two-month residence. The "Liz & Dick" star eventually did make her way back to Chateau Marmont, after she called up the hotel owner and paid her outstanding debt.
When she carried around a Quran
Lindsay Lohan knows how to keep the public guessing. In 2017 the "Parent Trap" star made a bold statement by wiping her social media clean, leaving behind just "Alaikum salam" in her bio, which is an Arabic greeting. The words translate to "and unto you peace," and it caused speculation about whether or not Lohan was converting to Islam, or dabbling in one of her wild antics.
The "Mean Girls" star was seen toting a Quran — the holy book of Islam — around New York City a few years before in 2015. Lohan, who was raised Catholic, may have been getting her dose of the holy word to get her through her day's work at a children's center. The actor reported there as part of her required community service due to her past run-ins with the law.
The actor spoke to the Turkish television show "Habertürk TV" in 2015, saying, "My very close friends, who have been there for me a lot, in London are Saudi and they gave me the Quran and I brought it to New York because I was learning," she admitted, adding, "It opened doors for me to experience spirituality, to find another true meaning." As for whether or not the star has plans to convert to the Islamic faith, she told Good Morning Britain that she's keeping her options open. "Nothing is confirmed yet," she said, adding that she finds peace in studying the Quran and reads it regularly.
Lindsay Lohan's sex list was made public
Lindsay Lohan may have taken the blame for the "burn book" in "Mean Girls," but she refused to take the fall when her own sex list became public. In March 2014, a list of men Lohan allegedly had been intimate with was published, and the internet had a field day. With high-profile names like Orlando Bloom, Ashton Kutcher, Heath Ledger, and James Franco making the list — fans wanted the truth.
Lohan told the Daily Mail that the list was made as a part of her alcohol treatment program, saying, "I was in AA and that's a really personal thing and there are steps and processes that you go through. I don't want to say too much because there is anonymity between people and mine was broken." She went on to reveal that she doesn't know who published the list, but she suspects someone got a hold of it during her move from New York to Los Angeles. "I had some friends over that I probably should have questioned a bit but I don't like to see the bad in people, I like to see the good, so I ignored it and then someone must have stolen it and that's a really personal thing, that's something I would never do to anyone," she revealed.
Lohan went on "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen" in 2019 where she was questioned about the validity of the names on the list, but the actor refused to confirm or deny any relations with any of the men listed.

She stole clothing from a movie set
Lindsay Lohan made off like a bandit after filming "Scary Movie 5" in 2012 — taking about $15,000 dollars worth of clothing with her. The "Freaky Friday" star reportedly took several items of clothing from the movie's wardrobe collection. "I guess Lindsay thought she was entitled to it, like free soap at a hotel. All the other actors knew about it, but the producers just put it down to the price you had to pay for doing business with Lindsay," a source told The National Enquirer at the time (via Radar).
Lohan has a history of taking things that aren't hers. The actor made headlines back in 2008 when paparazzi photos revealed her wearing a mink coat that had gone missing from a New York nightclub. The star reportedly took the coat from 1 Oak, where a student named Masha Markova had attended a private birthday party that Lohan also attended. Little did Lohan know the fur coat was a family heirloom worth up to $11,000 dollars, and Markova tracked down the coat thief after seeing the star wearing the item in magazine photos. Just like it goes down in show business, she had her people call Lohan's people, and the coat made it back to its rightful owner — although allegedly reeking of cigarette smoke. "They were very discreet," Masha said of Lohan's legal team, per The Guardian. "Never even mentioned a name or even the word 'coat'. They just said, 'We're going to bring you something.'"
She made a cringe-worthy statement about President Obama
Lindsay Lohan let her words get the best of her following the historical inauguration of Barack Obama in 2008. In an interview with "Access Hollywood" (via HuffPost), the "Mean Girls" star was asked how she felt following President Obama taking office. In a cringe-worthy admission, she replied, "It was really exciting. It's an amazing feeling. It's our first colored president." The term had people shaking their heads, as it's considered to be derogatory as opposed to other terms such as African American or Black.
But her slip-up wasn't the only blunder involving the President. In 2012 she tweeted a reply to Obama's post about cutting taxes for middle-class families and small businesses. She wrote in a since-deleted post, "We also need to cut them for those that are listed on Forbes as "millionaires" if they are not, you must consider that as well." Lohan had openly supported Obama in his 2008 electoral run and even wanted to take part in his campaign. She was vocal about her distaste for former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, calling her a "narrow-minded, media-obsessed homophobe," on her blog at the time, per MTV.
Lohan's offer to get involved on the campaign trail was shot down, however, (for pretty obvious reasons) by Obama's team at the time. A source admitted at the time that the actor is "not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us.”
Her high speed police chase
We've all heard about OJ Simpson's wild run from the police in his Ford Bronco, but have you heard about Lindsay Lohan's high-speed police chase? It was the summer of 2007, and Lohan was at the height of her bad-girl phase. According to TMZ, the incident started after Lohan got drunk at a house party and ended up getting into an argument with her then-assistant. After announcing she quit, the assistant proceeded to leave the party only to have Lohan chase after her in a friend's car.
Dante Nigro, Jakon Sutter and Ronnie Blake recounted their stories about the wild night to the media outlet. Blake admitted jumping out of the car in fear only to have his foot run over by Lohan. The men admitted they tried to stop the "Mean Girls" star from hitting the Pacific Coast Highway, but she threatened them, saying, "If you touch me I'll sue you." Nigro, Sutter, and Blake say the actor reached speeds of 100 MPH before reaching her assistant's car and doing donuts around it. Lohan allegedly said, "I can't get in trouble. I'm a celebrity. I can do whatever the f*** I want."
The actor was arrested following the incident for a DUI as well as possession of cocaine — but in court documents obtained by TMZ — she swears she doesn't use drugs. In a statement to the court, Lohan wrote, "[the assistant] and her boyfriend currently use & may have set me up," adding, "I don't do drugs. Thank you God bless."
