Val Kilmer Once Wanted To Be More Than Just Angelina Jolie's Co-Star

Fans of Angelina Jolie often fall into two camps: Either they want to be with her, or they want to be her.

Celebrities aren't immune to the Angelina Jolie magic, either. Johnny Depp once described her as "everything." During an interview for their film "The Tourist," the actor had nothing but praises for his co-star. "She's kind of a walking poem, Angelina is. She's this perfect beauty, but at the same time very deep, very smart, very quick, very clever, very funny, and also has a very perverse sense of humor," he said.

Additionally, Margot Robbie once dished that Jolie is one of her girl crushes, and when they met the first time, she couldn't help but make a fool out of herself. "It was like startling to be so close to [her.] She was like stunning. And not just aesthetically; she just has such a presence. I got really hot and sweaty and stumbled my words, and it was a terrible introduction," the "I, Tonya" star shared with W Magazine. And Ethan Hawke, with who Jolie shared an on-screen kiss in the film "Taking Lives," believes that she "was born to whittle men, to make them weak," because apparently, "when she kisses you, you don't know your name." It's pretty clear that Jolie's effect on people is inescapable. "Batman Forever" star Val Kilmer can attest to that.

Val Kilmer had a huge crush on Angelina Jolie

2004 film "Alexander" was one of the biggest box office bombs of its time, having only earned a little over $165 million against a $155 million budget. Colin Farrell, who played Alexander the Great in the movie, admitted feeling shameful about the project for years. "I found myself in a place where with everyone I met I wanted to say, 'Have you seen Alexander? If you have, I'm really sorry,'" he shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

But Val Kilmer, who played Farrell's father in the film, had a different recollection of his experience, primarily because he had a massive fixation over his co-star, Angelina Jolie. The "Top Gun" actor wrote in his memoir, "I'm Your Huckleberry," that before even accepting the role, he told director Oliver Stone that he would only do it "if the king and queen could have flashbacks to falling hard for each other and storming the castle with passion." And while he insisted that he "was only half kidding," he was serious about his eagerness to star alongside Jolie — so much so that he wanted to spoil her and share passionate smooches.

"I couldn't wait to kiss Angie, buy her [a] Gulfstream jet and have V+J painted in rainbow glory on the tail," he penned. "She had recently adopted her first child, Maddox, and the paparazzi were obsessed with this postmodern Madonna, the perfect picture of unapproachable stardom and impossibly chic maternal instinct."

Did Val Kilmer and Angelina Jolie date?

Rumor has it that Val Kilmer and Angelina Jolie had a brief fling after "Alexander" came out in the theaters, but neither party ever admitted to it. Kilmer, however, said the two had shared a special bond during filming — albeit a platonic one.

"We developed a friendship," he wrote in his memoir. "I was around when Angie's mom [Marcheline Bertrand] was losing her battle with cancer. They were living in her mom's favorite hotel. Or maybe it was Angie's. I happened to be staying there myself. It was meaningful and mortal and effortless and exquisite." Kilmer discussed it further in an interview with Deadline, saying that Jolie "trusted" him with her struggles "because she sensed a spiritual side to me." As it turns out, Kilmer is no stranger to personal loss. "I had lost my little brother and my father, so our personal relationship was completely different than our characters," he added. We worked that out in daily flirtatious improvs... She was a real pro."

If there's one thing that Kilmer regrets, it's not hanging out with Jolie more, who he claims is a "goddess." Speaking with the Evening Standard, he gushed: "I'm pretty sure she's not from Earth, though. I've seen green scales on her back — and they're not tattoos! Maybe I should have gone out with her more when she asked me."
