Is True Lies Star Ginger Gonzaga In A Relationship?
Ginger Gonzaga is on a roll. After being cast as Nikki Ramos in the Disney+ series "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," the actor-comedian landed a starring role in the CBS series adaptation of the 1994 cult-classic film "True Lies." She plays Helen Tasker, a bored suburban housewife who discovers that her husband Harry — played by Steve Howey — is living a double life as a skilled international spy. The original "True Lies" starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis as the Taskers, so both Howey and Gonzaga knew they had some big shoes to fill.
Interestingly, Gonzaga admitted in an interview with PA! Live that she had not seen the film before being cast in the reboot. "Going into this, I made sure that I didn't watch 'True Lies' before I did the pilot because I didn't want to be intimidated by Jamie's iconic performance," she said, adding, "And I knew I could make my own Helen, my 2023 Ginger way, so I got lucky in that I got the pressure off me a little bit."
Gonzaga also revealed in an interview with Ozarks Live! that she did a lot of preparation for her role in "True Lies," including kickboxing, gymnastics, and parkour lessons. "Yeah, I took parkour lessons with children. That's how you prepare for action," she joked. With "True Lies" and "She-Hulk," it's clear that Gonzaga is enjoying a thriving career — but what about her personal life? Is the star currently in a relationship? Here's what we know.
Ginger Gonzaga might be dating comedian Taylor Williamson
In November 2022, stand-up comic Taylor Williamson sparked buzz that he is dating Ginger Gonzaga after he penned a sweet tribute for the "True Lies" star on social media. Williamson shared a series of cozy photos on his Instagram, including a snap of him kissing Gonzaga on the cheek. In his caption, Williamson gushed about Gonzaga, calling her the "funniest, smartest, and most empathetic soul" he knows. "I look up to this woman even when she's not 40 feet taller than me," he captioned a photo of him standing beside Gonzaga's billboard. "She makes me smile and laugh a whole bunch and inspires me like no one else. Hey Ginger, thanks for being all the things," he added. Gonzaga replied to the post with a series of smiling face and red heart emojis.
While neither Gonzaga nor Williamson has commented on the status of their relationship, they have been spotted together in public. Williamson supported Gonzaga during the "She-Hulk" premiere in August 2022. "So proud of youuuu," he told Gonzaga then. Williamson also accompanied Gonzaga to the world premiere of Marvel's "Ant-man and The Wasp: Quantumania" in February, going by photos she uploaded on Twitter. "#AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania premiere was so fun!" Gonzaga said in her tweet.
Ginger Gonzaga previously dated Jim Carrey
Though Ginger Gonzaga prefers to keep her love life as low-key as possible, the actor has been involved in some high-profile relationships over the course of her career. In 2013, she was romantically linked to Australian comedian Jim Jefferies after the two worked together on the FX sitcom "Legit." Gonzaga played the on-and-off girlfriend of Jefferies in the series, which got canceled in 2014 after two seasons. While neither she nor Jefferies had openly confirmed their romance, the two have since remained close friends and again worked together on the 2016 comedy film "Punching Henry."
Aside from Jefferies, Gonzaga had a relationship with Hollywood A-lister Jim Carrey. The pair met while playing love interests on Showtime's acclaimed 2018 comedy-drama "Kidding." They made their red-carpet debut as a couple at the Showtime Golden Globes Nominees Celebration in 2019, with Carry gushing about his gorgeous date. "She's incredible, unbelievable, wicked talent and amazing person," he said of Gonzaga in an interview with Extra. "I feel very lucky," Carrey also told ET.
Unfortunately, he and Gonzaga split just after less than a year of dating. A source confirmed their breakup to People in October 2019, saying the two had broken up months ago. Carrey — who was previously married to actor Melissa Womer and his "Dumb and Dumber" co-star Lauren Holly — has not been romantically linked to anyone ever since.
