Stars With The Most Divorces In Hollywood
Divorce in Hollywood is a tale as old as time. Some A-list splits certainly come as more of a shock than others, but no relationship — not even one bolstered by fame and fortune — is entirely invincible.
While giving marriage a second chance is always on the table, the thought of getting hitched again after a nasty divorce might be off-putting to some celebs. Take Kelly Clarkson, for example. On a 2021 episode of her talk show, she told Gwyneth Paltrow that matrimony was the last thing on her mind following her split from Brandon Blackstock. "Coming from someone who is literally in the midst of divorce, I can't even imagine doing it again," Clarkson told her guest.
Other celebs, however, did it again several times before finding "the one." And we're not just talking about stars like Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian, who have both gone through three divorces. For the celebs below, four, five, and even six failed marriages wouldn't stop them from finding their forever partner. As far as filing for divorce is concerned, these Hollywood veterans know more than a thing or two.
Nicolas Cage is married to his fifth wife
Nicolas Cage wed his wife, Riko Shibata, in Las Vegas, in February 2021. It marked the actor's fifth marriage, and Cage believed he and Shibata were in it for the long run. As he told the Los Angeles Times, "I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time." The couple welcomed their first child together, a daughter named August Francesca Coppola Cage, in September 2022.
Before Cage took that step with Shibata, he was previously married to four other women. He wed his first wife, actor Patricia Arquette, in April 1995, with the couple finalizing their divorce in 2001. Although their marriage reportedly ended on cordial terms, in a 2018 interview for The Guardian, Cage shared that he hadn't spoken to Arquette in quite some time. After his divorce from Arquette, Cage began dating Lisa Marie Presley. The pair wed in 2002, but it wasn't marital bliss as the couple filed for divorce less than four months later, in November 2002. Their divorce was finalized in May 2004.
Cage married his third wife, Alice Kim, who was 20 years younger than the actor, in 2004. Kim gave birth to their son, Kal-El Coppola Cage, in 2005. However, Kim and Cage called it quits in 2016. Cage's fourth marriage might have been his most controversial. He married makeup artist Erika Koike in Las Vegas in March 2019, but it was over in four days, with the actor saying he was drunk when he agreed to wed.
Katharine McPhee is David Foster's fifth wife
Music producer David Foster caused a stir when he married "American Idol" alum Katharine McPhee in June 2019. However, what's more shocking than the 34-year age gap between David and McPhee is how he is connected to several famous faces in Hollywood thanks to his previous marriages.
David Foster married his first wife, singer B.J. Cook in 1972, and the pair welcomed a daughter named Amy Foster. The two would split with the composer marrying his second wife, Rebecca Dyer, and the couple welcoming three daughters. Unfortunately, they called it quits in 1986. David was married to his third wife, Linda Thompson, who was previously married to Olympian Caitlyn Jenner. Before their split, David starred on the reality television show "The Princes of Malibu" with Thompson and Caitlyn's two sons, Brody and Brandon Jenner. Of course, Caitlyn would later marry Kris Jenner, with the two welcoming Kendall and Kylie Jenner. Kris was already a mom to four children: Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian.
David would wait quite a few years before tying the knot to his fourth wife, Yolanda Hadid. The two wed in 2011, and though they shared no children, Hadid had previously welcomed models Gigi, Bella, and Anwar Hadid with her ex-husband, Mohamed Hadid. David and "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star divorced in 2015, sharing in his Netflix documentary "David Foster: Off The Record" that he would never let the public know why they chose to separate.
Kenny Rogers loved all his wives
Kenny Rogers was known for his country tunes and falling in love with many women. In total, Rogers had been married five times. His fifth wife, Wanda Miller, whom he wed in 1997, stayed married to the "Islands in the Stream" singer until his death in March 2020. It proved to be his longest marriage after having blamed his music career for his many divorces. "Music, at least for me, is like a mistress ... and she's a difficult mistress for a wife to compete with," Rogers told Reuters in 2012. "When I became driven and selfish, I was so intent to follow my life that it cost me. I was gone so much from some of my marriages that there was a disconnect."
The singer married his first wife, Janice Gordon, in 1958, when he was nineteen. However, the marriage was over by 1960. That same year, he married his second wife, Jean Rogers, but that marriage was short-lived and ended after three years. In 1964, Rogers married his third wife, Margo Anderson, but they divorced in 1976, with the singer blaming his career on their split.
In 1977, Rogers married Marianne Gordon, his fourth wife, and they were together for 16 years until they divorced in 1993. Marianne was awarded $60 million in their divorce settlement, with the large sum making headlines. According to the Independent, after the settlement was disclosed, the singer reportedly said, "She deserves every penny."
Christie Brinkley went through four divorces
Veteran supermodel Christie Brinkley may have gone through four failed marriages, but she has been optimistic about finding love again. She told Hello! in May 2022, "I am not looking for romance – there is an expression when you don't look, it happens, so I haven't been looking for a while, and maybe it will happen."
Brinkley's first marriage was to French artist Jean Francois from 1973 to 1981. In 1985, the model married famed singer Billy Joel and the couple had a daughter named Alexa Ray Joel that same year. Though they divorced in 1994, they remain close, with Brinkley telling Social Life Magazine in 2019 that their love of music has kept them in touch. "Many years after our divorce, Billy would still come to my house for the Christmas singalong and play the piano, and all of our friends would come over and sing Christmas carols," she shared.
The model wed her third husband, Richard Taubman, in December 1994, and the couple welcomed a son named Jack the following year. However, she would also separate from Taubman, revealing that the property developer blindsided her. Brinkley would marry her fourth husband, architect Peter Cook, in 1996, and the couple welcomed a daughter named Sailor Brinkley Cook in 1998. They separated in 2006 when the model learned of her husband's affair with his then-19-year-old assistant. Their divorce was finalized in 2008.
Gary Oldman's third marriage was tumultuous
Actor Gary Oldman has been divorced four times. His first marriage was to English actor Lesley Manville from 1987 to 1990, with the couple welcoming a son named Alfie Oldman. The same year he divorced Manville, he married actor Uma Thurman, who was nineteen. The couple divorced after less than two years of marriage, with Thurman telling Vanity Fair in 1996 that their union wasn't meant to be. "It was a crazy love affair that ended as it needed to. He was my first love. I had no prior experience," the star said.
In 1997, Gary Oldman married his third wife, model Donya Fiorentino and they welcomed two sons, Gulliver and Charlie Oldman. However their divorce in 2001 wouldn't end so smoothly. According to Daily Mail, during their divorce proceedings, Gary and Fiorentino accused one another of being addicted to drugs. At the same time, the model accused the actor of physical and emotional abuse. (His son, Gulliver, stood by his father after his mother's abuse allegations.) As a result, Gary was awarded custody of their sons. Though the former couple had a bitter divorce, Fiorentino told the Daily Mail in 2018 that she wanted to make peace for the sake of their sons.
After the couple's scandalous divorce, Gary Oldman married his fourth wife, Alexandra Edenborough, in 2008. However, their union ended in 2015. The "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" actor has been married to his fifth wife, Gisele Schmidt, since 2017.

Billy Bob Thornton hasn't only been married to Angelina Jolie
Actor Billy Bob Thornton's marriage to Angelina Jolie may have been his most talked about marriage, but it wasn't his only controversial one. The actor has been divorced five times, with his first marriage to Melissa Lee Gatlin from 1978 to 1980. Their union ended with Gatlin claiming that Thornton had cheated. In 1986, the actor married his second wife, Toni Lawrence, in 1986, but their marriage ended two years later. Thornton's third marriage was to Cynda Williams, who he wed in 1990, with the pair co-starring in the film "One False Move." Their marriage ended in 1992.
After divorcing Williams, Thornton married Playboy model Pietra Dawn Cherniak in 1993. The couple called it quits in 1997 and went through a nasty divorce, with Cherniak accusing the actor of spousal abuse, per People. However, Thornton would have a new lady on his arm the following year. He proposed to actor Laura Dern in 1998, but the couple split after Dern learned her fiancé was having an affair with the woman who would be Thornton's fourth wife, Angelina Jolie.
Though Thornton and Jolie's marriage would be the talk of the town because of their 20-year-age gap, their antics in front of the camera, including admitting to carrying vials of each other's blood around their necks, made them the "it" odd couple. The pair separated in 2002. Since 2014, Thornton has been married to Connie Angland.

Tony Curtis married six times
Tony Curtis was a Hollywood heartthrob, so it was no wonder the actor was married to six women during his lifetime. His first wife, actor Janet Leigh, who he married in 1951, would star in several movies with her husband, including "Houdini," "The Black Shield of Falworth," and "The Perfect Furlough." The couple welcomed two children, Kelly and Jamie Lee Curtis, who followed in their parent's footsteps. However, the couple divorced in 1962.
The following year, Tony married his second wife, Christine Kaufmann, and the couple welcomed two daughters, Alexandra, and Allegra Curtis. They later split in 1968. That same year, the actor married Leslie Allen, who also had two children with the actor. They ended up divorcing in 1982. Sadly, one of their sons, Nicholas Curtis, died in 1994 after suffering a seizure at 23. Tony's fourth wife was Andrea Savio, whom he married in 1984 until their divorce in 1994. His fifth marriage was to Lisa Deutsch in 1993, but their marriage only lasted a year.
The celebrated actor's sixth marriage proved to be his most successful. He wed Jill Vandenberg in 1998, and the couple was together until he died in 2010.
Rue McClanahan almost gave up on love
"The Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan decided it was time to give up on finding a partner after enduring five failed marriages. In an interview with People in 1986, the actor shared, "I used to be romantic, but not no more."
Indeed, McClanahan's marriages appeared to be a strain on the star. Her first marriage was to actor Tom Bish, whom she married in 1958, with the pair welcoming her only child, a son named Mark. The couple divorced just 17 months later, with McClanahan jumping into a marriage with actor Norman Hartweg. However, their marriage was also short-lived. McClanahan was married to her third husband, Peter Demaio, from 1964 to 1971. Her fourth husband, a realtor named Gus Fisher, who she married in 1976, didn't last long either. She told People, "I thought that the experience with Gus was a fluke. I didn't think everybody was greedy. So when my high school sweetheart showed up, I thought marrying him was safe."
Unfortunately, McClanahan thought wrong. Tom Keel, a high school boyfriend, would be her fifth ex-husband. Their year-long marriage ended in 1985, with Keel walking away with a large financial settlement, per People. Despite her setbacks, the actor didn't give up love. She married her sixth husband, Morrow Wilson, in 1997. The couple had reportedly split before her death in 2010.
Mickey Rooney's marriages weren't as glam as his career
Though Mickey Rooney had a long and successful career in Hollywood, his many marriages were a different story. Rooney was married eight times, having said "I do" three times in the 1940s. His first wife was the iconic actor Ava Gardner. The marriage lasted a mere year, ending in 1943. The following year, he wed Betty Jane Phillips, with the couple's divorce settled in 1949. He married actor Martha Vickers that same year, but they divorced in 1951.
Rooney married his fourth wife, Elaine Devry, in 1952. However, they split in 1958 after the actor began an affair with Barbara Ann Thomason. Thomason and Rooney married soon after, but Rooney had an affair during his marriage to her, too. In spite, Thomason carried on her own extramarital affair with actor Milos Milosevic. Thomason's life ended in tragedy: She was killed by a jealous Milosevic, and Milosevic died by suicide, per People.
For a little over three months, Rooney was married to a friend of Thomason's named Marge Lane. And then, he went on to marry Carolyn Hockett, who was 23 years his junior, in 1969. They also ended up in divorce in 1975. Rooney's longest marriage was to his eighth wife, Jan Chamberlin. The two wed in 1978; however, in 2011, he accused her son of abuse, and the couple separated two years before he died in 2014.

Richard Pryor's marriages were all short-lived
Richard Pryor was a comedic genius, but he faced many obstacles in his love life. He was married seven times to five different women, with all of his marriages short-lived.
Pryor's first marriage was to Patricia Price in 1960, but it ended after one year. He married Shelley Bonis in 1967, but that marriage ended in 1969. His third wife was actor Deborah McGuire, whom he married in 1977, but the pair divorced the following year. After going through a few divorces, Pryor told People in 1978 that he wanted to make a change. "For a long time, I saw women as sexual objects, and I was always trying to keep them from getting hurt. Then one day, they would pack up and leave, taking something more with them than their clothes. They took my happiness," he shared, adding, "I've finally gotten to the stage where I am trying to understand women as friends – I'd rather rob a bank than mess with women the way I used to."
However, his following marriages wouldn't last either. He married his fourth wife, Jennifer Lee, in 1981, but their marriage wouldn't make it past 1982. Then, in 1986, the stand-up comedian married his fifth wife, Flynn Belaine, but the couple divorced in 1987, only to remarry in 1990 and split again in 1991. In 2001, Pryor remarried Lee and stayed married to her until he died in 2005.
Lana Turner had seven husbands
Lana Turner was part of Hollywood's Golden Age, becoming one of the most famous actors of the 1940s and 1950s. Her career spanned an impressive 50 years, and she was labeled a sex symbol. However, her personal life had overshadowed her successful career. Turner was married eight times, twice to actor Joseph Stephen Crane.
Turner's first marriage to jazz musician Artie Shaw lasted four months after the pair had eloped in 1940. Her second marriage was to Joseph Stephen Crane in 1942. However, they would split and remarry after Turner learned she was pregnant with their daughter, Cheryl Crane. In the end, the couple divorced in 1944. What followed was five marriages that would all become short-lived. Turner married Henry J. Topping from 1948 to 1952. The following year, she married Lex Barker, but they divorced in 1957. From 1960 to 1962, she was married to Fred May. In 1965, she married Robert Eaton until they split in 1969. Her final marriage was to Ronald Dante from 1969 to 1972. Allegedly, Turner also had romantic relationships with Ronald Reagan, Clake Gable, and Frank Sinatra.
Turner did not walk down the aisle again after her eighth marriage. She died in 1995 at age 75. In 1982, she released her memoir, "Lana: The Lady, the Legend, the Truth," which discussed her eight marriages and personal struggles.
Elizabeth Taylor was known for her many marriages
Silver screen legend Elizabeth Taylor was no stranger to saying "I do." The actor was married eight times to seven different men, having wed actor Richard Burton twice. Her first marriage was to Conrad Hilton Jr., the son of the founder of Hilton Hotels, in 1950. The couple divorced eight months later. Her second marriage was to a much older Michael Wilding in 1952, but they ended their union in 1957. Taylor's third husband, Mike Todd, would die in a plane crash in 1958.
The actor confided in her friend Eddie Fisher, who was married to actor Debbie Reynolds, after her husband's death and began an affair with him. The pair married in 1959 but divorced when Taylor fell in love with Burton. They wed just ten days after her divorce from Fisher in 1964. She and Burton would co-star in several films together, but they fought constantly. They divorced in 1974 but remarried the following year. Alas, they divorced again in 1976. Per the BBC, Burton once shared about their romance, "Elizabeth and I lived on the edge of an exciting volcano. I'm not easy to be married to or live with. I exploded violently about twice a year with Elizabeth. She would also explode. It was marvelous. But it could be murder."
Taylor was married to her seventh husband, John Warner, from 1976 to 1982. Her eighth husband was Larry Fortensky, whom she married in 1991. They divorced in 1996. Taylor died in 2011.
Larry King was married eight times
All of Larry King's marriages were brief, except for his eighth and final marriage to Shawn Southwick King. The pair married in 1997, but Larry filed for divorce in 2019. The former couple remained estranged, with reports stating that their divorce was still ongoing at the time of his death in 2021.
Before he wed Shawn, Larry was previously married to seven different women, having married one Playboy bunny twice. Larry was first married to his high school sweetheart, Freda Miller, but it was annulled after a year in 1953. He married his second wife, Annette Kaye, in 1961, though it lasted for less than a year. The talk show host married his third wife, Playboy model Alene Akins, twice from 1961 to 1963 and again from 1967 to 1972. Between his marriages to Akins, he married Mary "Mickey" Francis from 1964 to 1967. He went on to give marriage a sixth try with Sharon Lepore (1976-1983) and a seventh with Julie Alexander (1989-1992).
In 2010, Larry King spoke about his prior marriages, sharing with CBS News, "I think in my life I have loved three people – married all three. The other marriages, I wasn't in love. It was the thing to do. I used to say, what if your wife called urgent on one line, on the other CNN called urgent, which one do you pick up? ... I used to say CNN."
Zsa Zsa Gabor met her match with her ninth husband
Glamorous Hollywood actor Zsa Zsa Gabor went through the divorce process eight times. She didn't find a lasting love until she married her ninth and final husband, Prince Frederick von Anhalt.
But long before Gabor connected with von Anhalt, she married Burhan Belge in 1937. The couple divorced in 1941, and the following year, she married Hilton hotel founder Conrad Hilton until their divorce in 1948. By the next year, the actor was married to George Sanders, who later married Gabor's sister. What followed was a string of short-lived marriages to banker Herbert Hutner (1964-1966), oil magnate Joshua Cosden Jr. (1966-1967), toy inventor Jack Ryan (1975-1976), lawyer Michael O'Hara (1977-1982), and actor Felipe de Alba in 1982, though their marriage was annulled after a day.
In 1986, Gabor married von Anhalt, and it was her most successful marriage; the ninth trip down the aisle proved to be the charm after all. Per The New York Times, the Hungarian-born actor reportedly once said, "A girl must marry for love, and keep on marrying until she finds it." Gabor died in 2016 with von Anhalt by her side. She was 99.
