Are Aubrey Plaza And Amy Poehler Still Friends After Their Parks & Rec Days?
Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler go hand in hand. The two comedians starred in one of the most beloved comedy shows in recent memory, "Parks & Recreation." Poehler played the iconic Leslie Knope, an enthusiastic politician eager to do good in the world; almost the exact opposite was Plaza's character, April Ludgate, who wanted nothing to do with politics. Although it seemed unlikely, their characters on the show became quite close. As it turns out, their on-screen friendship translated into a strong bond off-screen.
Since the show first hit the airwaves in 2009, Plaza and Poehler developed a bond like no other. Plaza once joked to Rolling Stone that she and Poehler were in "love" and that the comedian was "kind of [her] girlfriend," according to Page Six. Although their relationship was never truly romantic, their bond was undeniable. The "Inside Out" actor shared with Women's Wear Daily just how much she admired Plaza and her work in 2009. Poehler said, "Aubrey is a smart woman who likes a good dumb joke, and she's a spicy little mama who plays hard. I adore her." The two were attached at the hip during their time on "Parks & Recreation." However, since the show wrapped in 2015, fans have been curious whether Plaza and Poehler are still as close as they were. Well, we're here to fill you in on all the details about the co-stars' friendship after "Parks & Recreation."
Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler have reunited
"Parks and Recreation" fans can breathe a sigh of relief because Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler are still close friends. Following the show's conclusion in 2015, the two comedians kept in contact and — and even started a tradition thanks to an episode of the hit show.
Plaza, Poehler, and several of their castmates frequently get together the day before Valentine's Day to celebrate "Galentine's Day." Fans will remember the iconic episode where Leslie Knope decides to hold a Galentine's lunch to celebrate her love for the ladies of Pawnee. Well, Galentine's day has become a real-life tradition for the women who appeared on the show, according to E! News. In 2018, Plaza took to Instagram to share a photo of her and Poehler — along with a few more familiar faces from the show — reuniting to celebrate Galentine's Day. Plaza wrote, "Happy happy galentine's day. these women keep me alive." According to the outlet, the group has celebrated this tradition a few times.
"Galentine's Day" isn't the only time Poehler and Plaza have reunited. According to the Daily Mail, Plaza, Poehler, and their fellow "Parks & Rec" castmate, Adam Scott, reconnected at the SAG Awards in 2013. Plaza and Poehler posed for a photo on the red carpet, sending fans into a frenzy. Later that night, true to her character April Ludgate, Plaza photobombed a picture of Poehler and Scott.
Amy and Aubrey revive Parks & Rec characters on SNL
When "Saturday Night Live" announced Aubrey Plaza would be hosting the show in 2023, it's no surprise the "Parks & Recreation" star turned to Amy Poehler. Not only is Poehler hilarious, but the comedian also got her big break on "SNL." So, it made sense that Poehler would return for her friend. The duo nearly broke the internet when they revived their iconic characters for the "Weekend Update" segment on "SNL."
"Weekend Update" host, Colin Jost, introduced Plaza as her character April Ludgate attempting to encourage the youth to join their local government. Plaza slipped into character, giving the audience that one-of-a-kind April Ludgate attitude. Plaza — as April — said, "OK, fine! So yeah, everybody should get involved where they live. If you're young, you should get a job as a garbageman or something." Fans went crazy as she channeled her "Parks & Rec" character, but viewers were in for an even bigger surprise when Poehler joined the fun.
Poehler entered the scene as "Leslie," poking fun at the character's crush on Joe Biden. She said, "When he zoomed in before could he see me? Or were the cameras off?" To "Leslie's" disappointment, Jost reveals that the Biden segment was pre-recorded. Although it was short, fans were happy to see Plaza and Poehler on their televisions once again.
