How Did Halle Bailey's Romance With Rapper DDG Begin?
Back in 2013, Halle Bailey and her sister Chloe Bailey splashed onto the music scene with their sensational cover of Beyoncé's hit single "Best Thing I Never Had." Since that fateful day, the beloved pop duo have reached superstardom with their critically-acclaimed albums and their successful stint on Freeform's hit series "Grown-ish." While Halle's brand as one half of Chloe x Halle shows no signs of slowing down, the young talent has also started to carve her own path as a solo talent — with her leading role in Disney's "The Little Mermaid" remake and the upcoming release of her untitled solo album.
However like every young celebrity in the industry, the "House of Payne" star has also made headlines for her romantic relationships, specifically regarding rapper and YouTuber PontiacMadeDDG, aka DDG. Since 2022, the two lovebirds have showcased their love for one another across social media and interviews. Join us as we take a look into how their relationship first started and where the two stand now.
Halle Bailey and DDG relationship first started on social media
Before making waves as a couple, Halle Bailey and DDG first sparked relationship rumors after they attended an Usher concert in January 2022. But despite photos of their outing circulating online, the lovebirds refrained from confirming their romance until Bailey's 22nd birthday. "Happy Birthday to the beatuifulest, the flyest, the sweetest love you forever @hallebailey," DDG wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post on March 27 2022. A few months after the rapper's heartfelt social media declaration, Bailey gave further insight into their relationship beginnings during an August 2022 interview with Essence.
According to the young talent, sparks first started to fly after the "Moonwalking in Calabasas" singer DM'ed her. "I've been a fan of his for years. I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them," she told the publication. Bailey went on to admit that she "forgot" about him over time until he started to release music. "I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me — and the rest is history," she continued. When asked if she was in love, the "Ungodly Hour" singer revealed: "Yes. For sure, I am." In the months following their social media debut, the romance between Bailey and DDG has only gotten stronger.
DDG says Halle Bailey keeps him motivated
Over the last year, Halle Bailey and DDG have been swimming in the waters of relationship bliss. While the pair kept details of their romance quiet early on in their relationship, they have since become open books regarding their love for one another. While appearing on "The Breakfast Club" in November 2022, the former YouTube star praised Bailey for motivating him. "I'm seeing different s***. I ain't really been around this type of s*** before," he explained. "I was my own person before her, but in a way, [she] put me on to different s***. That's dope because I'm usually the one putting motherf****** on."
A month before his "Breakfast Club" interview, DDG gushed on the Zach Sang show about Bailey making the art of love "positive." "I come from a toxic place — so I always felt relationships they last about a year — I just be getting rented for a year, at least," he explained. "But that's how I used to feel... but now, you know me and her and s***, I just feel like I got somebody that I might f*** around and be around with for life." Despite his romantic words, the pair seemingly hit a brief rough patch in February 2022 after he deleted all of their photos and tweeted, "all these girls the same... ain't no wayy." Fortunately for fans of the couple, DDG shut down the breakup rumors with a follow-up tweet: "The internet so gullible."
