Did Jennifer Lopez Keep Her First Engagement Ring From Ben Affleck?
Jennifer Lopez has been engaged five times, which means she has seen three more engagement rings than she has Grammy nominations. Two of those gems came from her current boyfriend, Ben Affleck, to whom she was first engaged in the early 2000s. While the two lovers never made it down the aisle during their initial romance — due in part to their shocking split — love eventually found a way.
In 2021, after over 15 years apart — and several respective relationships later — the former flames rekindled their romance, marrying only a year later. Actually, they married twice. After first making things official in a Las Vegas ceremony, the lovebirds enjoyed a second whirlwind wedding, which took place at Affleck's Georgia residence. Lopez's engagement rings are a lot like her weddings — that is to say, the second was a lot more impressive than the first.
Affleck defied tradition and proposed to Lopez with a marvelous green diamond ring, which she proudly boasted on Instagram while coyly alluding to her engagement. According to Page Six, the ring's price tag could range from $5 million to $10 million. But what's extra special about the gem is that Affleck had it engraved with the phrase, "Not. Going. Anywhere." But what happened to Jenny from the block's first engagement ring from Affleck? Traditionally, engagement rings are supposed to be returned if the wedding fails to manifest. But did J-Lo ever return her first ring?
Jennifer Lopez may not have returned her first ring from Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck really has a thing for colored diamonds. The first time around, Affleck proposed to Jennifer Lopez with a $2.5 million pink diamond purchased from Harry Winston. The unique sparkler was such a statement piece that it helped start a trend of celebs proposing with pink rings. It also piqued Barbara Streisand's interest. "I met [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and I was at the time engaged to Ben Affleck, and she's really into diamonds," Lopez shared with Zane Lowe. "So, she came up to me, and... she's like, 'Can I see your ring?'" During the same interview, J-Lo admitted she "loved getting it," but what about returning it?
Well, it's not exactly clear if Lopez kept the ring or not. Shortly after their breakup, a source close to Lopez shared that she planned on returning the dazzling rock. "She plans on quietly giving the ring back," the source shared with ABC News. "She's not doing this for the media. She's doing it for closure. It's the relationship's death certificate. He has demons that will never go away." However, Lopez's former publicist suggested the opposite in 2021. "As far as I know, Jen has never returned the ring," Robert Shuter told Page Six. "So if things move forward with these two, gosh, she's already got the most beautiful ring I've seen." Fair point.
Jennifer Lopez kept her engagement ring from Alex Rodriguez
While the jury is still out on whether Jennifer Lopez returned Ben Affleck's first engagement ring, her possible possession of Alex Rodriguez's engagement rings is much clearer.
To recap: Lopez and Rodriguez announced they were calling off their engagement in 2019, following four years of dating. Officially, the former couple said that they were "better off as friends." However, various sources cited Lopez's alleged inability to trust Rodriguez amid rampant cheating rumors as the reason for their separation. During happier times, Rodriguez proposed to Lopez in 2019 with a ring that cost over $1 million. And while their romance has since fizzled out, it appears Lopez hasn't been so keen on returning gemstone.
According to sources who spoke with TMZ in 2021, Lopez decided to keep the ring. Apparently, there was no beef over the singer's decision to keep the massive rock, either. The sources claimed that the couple gifted each other various pieces of jewelry over the years, so it all kind of balanced out. Besides, Rodriguez has a net worth of $350 million, so it's not like he's hurting for cash.
