How Da Brat Met Her Wife Jesseca Dupart (& Why It Wasn't Love At First Sight)

Da Brat confirmed her relationship with Jesseca "Judy" Dupart in March 2020, which also coincided with her coming out. The rapper uploaded a video to Instagram to show off the new Bentley Dupart had given her as a birthday present. "I've always been a kind of private person until I met my heart's match who handles some things differently than I do," she wrote in the caption. Meanwhile, the Kaleidoscope Haircare honcho also uploaded an Instagram video with Brat's new ride and mentioned how the two women were upfront about their relationship. "But then all these videos keep popping up like we hiding ... But WE BE IN PUBLIC," she wrote.

A few months later, Brat spoke about her decision to come out. "Oh, my God, the reaction made me feel like, 'Why didn't I do this s*** years ago?'" the "Funkdafied" artist told Variety in June 2020. Brat gushed over her then-girlfriend. "We just complement each other," she said, while mentioning how Dupart was thick-skinned when it came to dealing with "the hate and the trolls."

Fast forward a few years, and the couple were not only married, but Brat was pregnant. Originally, the "Da Brat Loves Judy" star was doubtful that she would have children, but that changed after shacking up with Dupart. "I was like, I want a little me with you," Brat told People on February 21. By then they appeared to be the perfect match, but their first few meetings were anything but ideal.

Why Da Brat ghosted Jesseca Dupart at first

Da Brat met her future wife Jesseca Dupart at an event in Atlanta in 2017, but that does not tell the story. It was a Miracle Drops event put on by Dupart's Kaleidoscope Hair Care line, and the "Sittin' On Top of the World" artist was anything but smooth. "I was real nervous and scared at first. I would hide behind furniture when she would talk to me," she said on a 2021 episode of "Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta," according to Rickey Smiley Morning Show. Even Dupart admitted that sparks were not exactly flying at first. "[I]t wasn't love at first sight at all." Although the pair did exchange numbers and decided to "link" in the near-future.

Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication and while Judy believed it was a casual date, Brat believed that Dupart simply wanted to meet about business. The two had an awkward hangout, and the "Give It 2 You" rapper did not reach out to Dupart "for months," as she recalled on "GUHHA."

Even once they connected for good, there were other uncomfortable moments. At first, they decided to keep their relationship low-key on several levels. "We were friends for a while, and it kinda happened like that," Dupart told BET in 2021. She also recalled meeting up with Brat at a festival, but since the rapper had not come out to the public, the pair could not hold hands without having their handlers join. Of course, their relationship matured over time.

How Da Brat is different with Jesseca Dupart

Two years after confirming their relationship to the public, Da Brat and Jesseca Dupart tied the knot with a lavish wedding ceremony in March 2022. Similar to when the "Ghetto Love" singer first met Dupart, she was overcome with emotion while saying "I do." "It was the first look," Brat told Entertainment Tonight shortly after getting married. The wedding was an extravagant affair and included Dupart arriving in an all-white carriage. "When I turned around and saw her carriage, I was like 'Oh my God, you look so beautiful,'" Brat recalled. Both women were understandably emotional on their big day — but they became each other's rock during the nuptials. "So, that was our first look, and it was like 'b***h we getting married right now,'" Dupart said.

Over the years, "Judy" had mentioned that she saw a different side of the brash rapper than the public was privy to. Not long after marrying each other, the couple decided to have a child. They struggled to conceive at first, but Dupart was eager for her wife to experience the joys of motherhood, which made her emotional. "She is the most nurturing person I've ever met in my whole entire life," Dupart said on "The Tamron Hall Show" in 2022. "So I just think that, [being pregnant] would be great and anything that I'm able to give her in this lifetime, I will," she added about her marriage to Brat.
