Katy Perry And Taylor Swift Have One Famous Ex-Boyfriend In Common
Katy Perry and Taylor Swift have a lot more in common than just their famous feud. Both musicians are extremely talented in their craft and beautiful, without a doubt. Because of this, they have dated some of the most eligible men in the entertainment industry.
Swift started seeing Joe Jonas in 2008, per Page Six. Although their relationship ended abruptly with a famously brief phone call, Jonas was just the beginning of Swift's dating history. The "All Too Well" singer went on to date other A-list stars including, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles. Many became the inspiration behind the songs we know and love today. As for Perry, she has also dated several men in Hollywood. Perry has dated a few big names like her ex-husband, comedian Russel Brand and producer Diplo, per Life & Style.
The dating scene in Hollywood may seem large, but sometimes stars end up dating the same person. And while it may seem that Perry and Swift have different tastes in men, there is one individual that caught the eye of both musicians. Funnily enough, the ex-boyfriend they had in common was a fellow musician.
Katy Perry and Taylor Swift dated John Mayer
Never in their "Wildest Dreams" did Taylor Swift and Katy Perry think they would date the same person, but life works in mysterious ways. The two pop stars have a common ex-boyfriend...John Mayer.
Swift was the first of the two to connect with the "Gravity" singer. The couple dated briefly between 2009-2010, and despite the quick romance, per US Weekly. Swift doesn't have fond memories of their relationship as she shared her experience in the track, "Dear John." Swift wrote, "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young / To be played by your dark twisted games when I loved you so? / I should've known." During their relationship, Mayer was 32 and Swift was 19. The "Free Fallin'" singer received tons of backlash for his relationship with Swift, but that didn't stop him from dating another popular musician.
According to Life & Style, Mayer and Perry began their whirlwind romance in 2012. Like Swift, Perry wrote several songs in honor of Mayer, but they were released while the two were still dating, so they had a more loving tone than Swift's, per Glamour. The couple dated on and off for several years before they officially called it quits in 2014, per People. A source shared that, at the core, the two musicians were different. Swift and Perry have since moved on from Mayer and are in loving relationships.
Taylor Swift and Katy Perry collaborated with John Mayer
Perry and Swift both ended up collaborating with Mayer. Swift and Mayer worked on the track "Half of my Heart" for his album, "Battle Studios," per MTV. In the song, Mayer sings the lead vocals, and you can hear Swift singing background vocals. Swift wasn't the inspiration behind the song, however, Mayer wanted someone on the track that would perfectly fit his dedication to folklore-style music. He said, "Well, if this is going to be my love letter to that style of music, who's going to be the artist in this equation? And I thought, 'This Taylor Swift girl is going to be around for a long time.'" The couple never made a music video for the song, but they did perform it live, which helped spark their romance.
As for Perry, her and Mayer's relationship created the collaboration "Who You Love." Unlike Swift's, the couple's song was more of a duet. The romantic lyrics in the song detail how you can't help who you fall in love with. The pair even shot a swoon-worthy music video for the track, where they shared loving glances, embraced one another, and looked head over heels for one another. Although Swift and Perry didn't end up with Mayer, we are selfishly glad they created the songs they did.
