Beyoncé And Taylor Swift Have Grown Much Closer Since The Kanye Incident

The moment Kanye "Ye" West interrupted Taylor Swift's VMA win for "Best Female Music Video" will go down in history as one of the wildest awards show moments ever. In case you need a recap: In 2009, as Swift began giving her acceptance speech for her big win, West appeared on stage and took the mic. "Hey Taylor, I'm really happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé [Knowles had one of the best music videos of all time!" West boldly proclaimed. The controversial figure was referring to Beyoncé's video for "Single Ladies," which was up against Swift's "You Belong With Me" in the same category. The audience immediately met West with a crowd of boos, but he'd already ruined Swift's moment.

Naturally, the incident could've led to an uncomfortable relationship between Beyoncé and Swift (as it created a years-long feud between West and Swift). However, the events that followed suggested a different future for the two stars. Later in the ceremony, Beyoncé returned to the stage and invited Swift to the mic to "have her moment."Swift embraced Beyoncé in a tight hug as she stepped onto the stage and delivered her original speech. Fortunately, the two powerhouses have grown quite close since West's antics forever linked them in pop culture's history.

Did Beyoncé choose sides in Taylor Swift and Kanye's feud?

As it turns out, the VMAs were the launchpad for Beyoncé and Taylor Swift's future relationship — and possibly the beginning of the end of Beyoncé and Kanye "Ye" West's. Allow us to explain. Although Beyoncé and West would remain friends for years to come, rumors of a feud started circulating after Beyoncé and Jay-Z failed to attend West's 2014 wedding to Kim Kardashian. West, never one to bite his tongue, confirmed the news during a sit down with radio host Charlemagne tha God. "I was hurt about them not coming to the wedding," said West. "I understand they were going through some things, but if it's family, you're not going to miss a wedding."

Those "things" West referenced were related to Jay-Z's alleged infidelity, which the couple addressed on their 2018 album, "Everything is Love." As Refinery 29 pointed out, Jay-Z used the song "Friends" to seemingly speak on their feud with West. "I ain't going to nobody for nothin' when me and my wife beefin'. I don't care if the house on fire, I'm dyin', n****, I ain't leavin'." Interestingly enough, Beyoncé and her famous husband found the time to attend Taylor Swift's 25th birthday party, which also occurred in 2014. Was this a coincidence? That much is unclear. However, Beyoncé and Swift's bond would continue to grow in the coming years.

Beyoncé and Talyor Swift support each other's legacies

Even though Beyoncé and Taylor Swift's most viral moment includes Kanye "Ye" West, the singers have much more in common. In recent years, both Beyoncé and Swift have become two of the most successful female artists of the 21st century. One glowing recent example was the back-to-back mania induced after both artists announced their upcoming tours. A second example would be Beyoncé and Swift's domination of the Grammy Awards in recent years.

Swift, for her part, has proved to be quite the Grammy's darling, who's won the coveted "Album of the Year" award three times, the most recent of which occurred in 2021." This win solidified Swift's place in history as the first woman to take home this particular category on three occasions. And while Beyoncé has yet to take home an award from that category, she still celebrated Swift's win by sending her flowers and a sweet note, which read: "Congratulations on your Grammy. It was great seeing you on Sunday night. Thank you for always being so supportive. Sending love to you and your family. B" (via People). Since then, Beyoncé has made history at the awards twice. First, in 2021, when she became the most awarded female Grammy winner in history, then in 2023, when she eclipsed both male and female winners. Swift, for her part, was equally gracious in 2021 and 2023 when she was caught on camera clapping for Beyoncé from the audience.
