Vin Diesel's On-Set Behavior Has Caused Problems In The Past
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson detailed his distaste for some of his male co-stars during "The Fate of the Furious." In the post, he reportedly called them "candy a**es," and even revealed that some of his fighting scenes didn't require much acting due to the rising tension. He later apologized for posting the rant.
Johnson has been in the "Fast & Furious" movies since 2011, and after starring in "The Fate of the Furious" in 2017, the actor called it quits due to Vin Diesel's behavior. In an effort to get his castmate back in the franchise, Diesel took to Instagram to lure him back. But Johnson made it clear to his co-star that he wasn't going to be in any more "Fast & Furious" movies.
Johnson then told CNN that he was "very surprised" by Diesel's efforts to get him back on the franchise, especially after he had spoken to both the actor and Universal about his departure. "Vin's recent public post was an example of his manipulation," he said, adding that he wasn't thrilled with the way Diesel brought his own children and Paul Walker's death into the situation. "Regardless, I'm confident in the 'Fast' universe and its ability to consistently deliver for the audience, and I truly wish my former co-stars and crew members the best of luck and success in the next chapter." And it seems that Johnson isn't the only person who has been fed up with Diesel's on-set behavior.
Vin Diesel's behavior is rumored to be the reason for Justin Lin's exit
Director Justin Lin has directed and written the "Fast & Furious" movies since 2006's "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," and he has stayed with the popular franchise for nearly two decades. So when the director unexpectedly quit during the first week of filming "Fast X," people wondered what the reason was for the exit.
"I've never seen anything like it," a producer not involved in the "Fast & Furious" films told the New York Daily News. "Lin's giving up $10 or $20 million." It was also alleged that Diesel's on-set behavior could have been a factor in the director leaving, with the producer claiming that the actor "[showed] up late to the set, [didn't] know his lines" and also [showed] up out of shape."
Lin was given the freedom to write and direct the new "Fast & Furious" movie, but it's reported that Universal and Diesel's thoughts didn't align with the director's vision. Because a part of the movie was supposed to be filmed in Eastern Europe, production had to cut those scenes due to the war in Ukraine. The studio also made production moves that Lin didn't agree with, such as revising the dialogue in the script. Aside from that, it's reported that at the time, they were still trying to cast a villain, setting production further back. But amid the on-set drama, Diesel is still liked by others.
People still have a lot of love for Vin Diesel
Although Vin Diesel has had some feuds with his "Fast & Furious" co-workers, others have noted that he can be a very loving person. When John Cena first met the actor, he apparently didn't know that he was auditioning for "F9." Nonetheless, he enjoyed hanging out with Diesel and thought he was cool. He also decided to stay neutral amid the ongoing feud between the "Guardians of the Galaxy" actor and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Cardi B made a cameo appearance in the ninth installment of the franchise because she was a big fan of the movies. The rapper's cameo included a scene with Diesel which intimidated her. "You know Vin Diesel, he always plays this very serious guy," she told People in September 2021. "I was scared, but he's so nice, so dope, he makes you feel so comfortable, that's pretty cool."
Diesel has also shown how classy he is when it comes to his friendship with Meadow Walker, the late Paul Walker's daughter. Diesel was there to comfort the young Meadow after her father's death, and he has welcomed her into his own family. The "Saving Private Ryan" actor also showed how much of a father figure he's been to Meadow when he walked her down the aisle at her wedding.
