Celebrities With Weird Eating Habits
It's totally normal to have habits and quirks that some may deem unusual. It's what makes us all unique. The same goes for celebrities, though some of their habits verge on the more unsettling side. For example, actor Sandra Bullock once shared that she puts hemorrhoid cream on her face, while Jessica Simpson revealed that she brushes her teeth just three times a week. These odd behaviors even extend to the foods these stars eat, with many of them opening up about their weird eating habits.
Take Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, who revealed to Delish that she enjoys eating pasta topped with zucchini that's been boiled for several hours, creating a "filthy, sexy mush." Meanwhile, actor Scott Foley's breakfast of choice may gross some fans out. The "Scandal" star enjoys smearing peanut butter on his scrambled eggs. So naturally, the internet went berserk, but Foley stuck by his food pairing, stating, "It's so good. Don't knock it till you try it."
The celebrities below have even weirder eating habits that'll shock fans. From eating sandwiches in the shower to chowing down on clay, check out which stars opened up about their unconventional ways of eating.
Chrissy Teigen eats her Doritos in a very odd way
It's no secret that Chrissy Teigen is a major foodie. She's written several cookbooks that include her favorite recipes, from Asian-inspired dishes to her husband, John Legend's go-to macaroni and cheese. Unlike most celebs who stick to extreme diets, she's not afraid to admit that she enjoys junk food like Taco Bell and McDonald's from time to time, sharing with Delish, "I get haters who ask why I would eat that kind of meat? There's a balance with anything. When I cook, everything is organic and very clean; I'm meticulous and kind of insane about it. But sometimes you just want a Doritos Locos Taco."
However, when Teigen is watching her weight and is still craving some not-so-healthy options, she has one habit that may sound a bit bizarre. Telling Delish that she's a Doritos fan, she said, "I lick off the nacho cheese seasoning and put the chips back in the bag. You still get all the flavor, not all the carbs!" Hopefully, Tiegen throws out that bag before Legend or her children gets a hold of it.
Teigen's weird eating habits don't end there. She once shared on Instagram that she enjoys mixing Cap'n Crunch cereal with Fruity Pebbles cereal, calling it "Cap'n Pebbles." In a tweet in 2020, the model also confessed to eating two hard-boiled eggs before bed, calling them her "night eggs."
Shania Twain won't eat solid food before a performance
Shania Twain has been in the music industry since the 1990s, but it wasn't until her third album, 1997's "Come On Over," which included hits like "Man, I Feel Like A Woman" and "You're Still the One" that Twain gained international stardom. Twain continues to perform her biggest hits on stage, but she has a unique way of preparing for her concerts.
During an interview with E! News, Twain discussed her specific dietary restrictions before going on tour, which included slowly cutting back on her favorite foods like French Fries but not totally giving up on them. "It's all about shifting the ratio," Twain said, adding, "If I'm on a break time and I'm going to totally indulge, I might be 60/40 on the bad side, and by the time it's showtime, I'm more like 80/20 on the good side."
However, Twain has another performance hack that might be controversial to some artists. She told Hoda Kotb on Today that she avoids eating solid foods and sticks to a liquid diet on the day of a show. "If I eat on a show day, solids, I burp when I sing," she admitted. We wonder, is that a common occurrence for other artists?
Jessica Biel likes to eat in the shower
Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake secretly welcomed their second son in the summer of 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic. However, it wasn't until six months later that Timberlake announced the exciting news and their son's name during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres. "His name is Phineas, and he's awesome and so cute, and nobody's sleeping," the former NSYNC member shared. The couple became first-time parents when they welcomed their son Silas in 2015.
With Biel being a highly successful actor and a mom of two, she shared how she navigates her hectic mom life with Jimmy Fallon. After Fallon shared an Instagram photo Biel shared that showed her plate and fork in the shower, the actor admitted that it's the only time she can find to chow down. "Sometimes it's a huge success, sometimes it's a huge failure," Biel told the host, jokingly sharing that foods like cereal work great, "If you get a little water in the milk, not a big deal. You know what's a little tough, like a sandwich. Sausage works great."
So, what else is Biel eating in the shower? During a Reddit AMA in 2017, the actor stated that she prefers to eat "really clean ... fruits and vegetables, fish, etc.," adding, "Don't get me wrong, I like my cheat days, and I go BIG."
Shailene Woodley eats clay
Shailene Woodley is known for starring in films like "The Fault in Our Stars" and "The Divergent Series," but she's also known for her alternative lifestyle and oddball comments. Woodley once shared with Flaunt magazine that she only drinks water from a mountain spring, makes her own toothpaste, and even makes medicine, and she once told Harper's Bazaar that she sleeps on a pillow made of the plant mugwort to "enhance dreams."
Woodley's eating habits are a little out there, too. In an interview with Into The Gloss, the actor revealed that she enjoys eating clay. "So, I've discovered that clay is great for you because your body doesn't absorb it, and it apparently provides a negative charge, so it bonds to negative isotopes. And, this is crazy: It also helps clean heavy metals out of your body," she shared.
So, what does Woodley eat besides clay? In 2020, she told Nylon magazine (via People) that she's big on eating bugs and has tried everything from ants to June bugs. "I think the future of food is in insects, so we'll see what happens," she said.
Kourtney Kardashian teaches fans the right way to eat chocolate
In 2022, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker starred in a campaign for the plant-based chicken brand Daring. The couple's shoot showed the pair sitting on a bed surrounded by Daring products, while another promo showed the stars grabbing the product from the fridge as they sat on the kitchen floor. According to Men's Journal, the Blink-182 drummer has been a vegan since he was 15. As for his wife, Kardashian's Poosh website states that the reality star is "95% vegan."
Though Kardashian is slowly making her way into veganism with the help of Barker, she was once known for her kooky way of eating chocolate. In 2016, Kardashian caused an internet frenzy with her technique for eating a Kit Kat bar. In a YouTube video titled "6 Steps to Eating a Kit Kat," Kardashian starts by breaking off one piece of the bar and eating the chocolate off both ends. The reality star then nibbles the chocolate on each side of the bar, pulls the top off, and begins to eat it. Next, she separates the bar again, eating the bottom piece and leaving what she calls the best part for the end: the middle portion of the Kit Kat.
And, if you want to know how Kardashian eats a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, there's a video for that, too.
Ed Sheeran's obsession with Heinz Ketchup is disturbing
It's hard not to see the colorful tattoos inked all over Ed Sheeran's body. The "Thinking Out Loud" artist is covered in tattoos, with The Sun reporting that many of them are in tribute to his family, including a black tree on his arm and a Henri Matisse sketch that shows two figures hugging each other, which reportedly pays homage to his mom. However, Sheeran also has ink dedicated to the things he loves. One is Heinz Ketchup, with the artist inking the product's label on his arm.
According to Page Six, Sheeran loves ketchup. A source alleged that the singer has members of his entourage carry the condiment wherever he goes. "Ed's made no secret of his Heinz Ketchup obsession and has run out of patience with going to places that don't serve it while he's touring," a source reported.
In fact, Sheeran got to participate in a Heinz Ketchup commercial. In April 2019, Sheeran posted on Instagram that he had an idea for an advertisement for the ketchup brand and shared a series of photos of himself with the bottle in hand. By June, the artist was starring in an ad for his favorite sauce.
Nicolas Cage only eats animals that mate appropriately
Actor Nicolas Cage has become known for playing quirky characters on the big screen, but his real-life antics are just as bizarre. For example, in 2010, the actor told David Letterman that he took magic mushrooms with his cat, Lewis. In 2015, he returned a stolen Mongolian dinosaur skull which he purchased for $276,000. And, he's already bought his own nine-foot tall pyramid-shaped tomb in New Orleans.
Cage's eating habits are just as strange. According to The Sun (via The Guardian), the "Leaving Las Vegas" actor only eats animals that mate respectfully. "I have a fascination with fish, birds, whales — sentient life — insects, reptiles, Cage said, adding, "I actually choose the way I eat according to the way animals to have sex. I think fish are very dignified with sex. So are birds." However, one food Cage won't be adding to his breakfast menu is bacon; after sharing, he won't eat pigs. "But pigs, not so much. So I don't eat pig meat or things like that. I eat fish and fowl."
Novak Djokovic nibbles on grass after every winning game
Professional athletes are known for their insane diets. For example, there's NFL player J.J. Watt whose diet consists of eating upwards of 9,000 calories daily. He told Graham Bensinger that he would eat every two hours, starting with two breakfasts, eating up to 10-12 eggs a day while also consuming toast, yogurt, oatmeal, and fruit. Meanwhile, retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady is known for his highly-disciplined diet. The sports star's TB12 diet consists of mainly plant-based foods, with the athlete following an 80/20 rule — 80% of the food should be plant-based while the 20% is meat.
Then there's professional tennis player Noval Djokovic, although his eating habits have become more of a strange tradition than something he consumes daily. Since his first Wimbledon win in 2011, Djokovic has eaten bits of the grass off the Wimbledon court. As of this writing, Djokovic has won seven Wimbledon trophies, which means he's chowed down on a lot of grass. In an interview with Wired, he explained his tradition, "When I was younger, I've always dreamt of winning Wimbledon, and I wanted to do something different, and I didn't come up with a more original idea, so I thought I might as well eat some grass. A lot of people have asked me how does it taste. Best freakin' grass in the world."
Tim Tebow adds butter to his coffee
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow starts his morning with a cup of joe, just like everyone else. However, he adds more to his coffee than the usual cream and sugar. Instead, he shared with Delish that he prefers bulletproof coffee. Created by entrepreneur Dave Asprey, the coffee consists of a blend of coffee, unsalted butter, and coconut oil. The coffee has become popular for those following a ketogenic diet.
Tebow shared his version of the coffee, which entails a mix of half-regular and half-decaf coffee because he isn't a big fan of too much caffeine and heavy organic whipping cream. He then adds butter, almond milk, and a couple of drops of English Toffee-flavored Stevia. The athlete described it as a "milkshake," adding, "It really kickstarts your day."
In fact, the bulletproof coffee also has become a favorite among stars like Harry Styles. In 2015, he told the Sunday Times Style Magazine (via Daily Mail) that drinking the mixture curbs his appetite. However, he doesn't add all that extra stuff like Tebow but adds coffee, butter, and coconut oil.
Channing Tatum puts a popular corn puff in his PB&J
Actor Channing Tatum opened up about how difficult it was to follow the diet and exercise regime for "Magic Mike." After revealing that a third installment of the film was in the works for 2023, the actor told Kelly Clarkson that he was not looking forward to having to become Mike Lane, the movie's main character. "Trust me. That might be the reason I didn't want to do a third one is because I have to look like that. Even if you do workout, to be that kind of in shape is not natural," Tatum shared, adding that what he had to achieve was "not even healthy."
Thankfully for Tatum, he wrapped up the last and final "Magic Mike" film and could devour whatever he pleased, including his go-to sandwich, which fans learned wasn't your average peanut butter and jelly sandwich. In a Reddit AMA, the actor shared that he loves a PB&J on white bread with a load of grape jelly and "some cheetos shoved in there." Anyone want to try Tatum's invention and get back to us?
Jennifer Lawrence's sandwich invention involves a ton of carbs
Jennifer Lawrence might be an Oscar-winning actor, but she's one of the most relatable stars in Hollywood. She's a big fan of reality television shows like "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" and has fangirled several times when meeting A-list actors like Jack Nicholson and Bill Murray. Lawrence also doesn't hide that she likes to indulge in junk food. Before collecting her Academy Award for Best Actress in 2013, she had her publicist pick up McDonald's, eating a Happy Meal in her pink Dior gown. She's a big lover of carbs, telling Foodiamo, "Yes! Carbs! Pizza, pasta, Philly cheesesteak, fries, but the best for me is lasagna!"
Lawrence loves carbs so much that she puts her favorite foods together in a "chili pizza sandwich." She shared her invention with Glamour stating that she puts Southern chili and noodles on top of a piece of pizza and another slice of pizza on top of that, creating a sandwich. People's associate food and lifestyle editor even tried Lawrence's concoction and called it "so.dang.good," adding, "I ate the whole thing. I am a monster."
Giada De Laurentiis dips her cookies in lemonade
Famous chef Giada De Laurentiis is known for creating simple Italian dishes and comfort foods more healthily. "My cooking stays true to my Italian roots, with lots of delicious, fresh ingredients. Eating well is not about eliminating foods. It's about nothing how they affect you and eating less of those that challenge your health. That doesn't mean you can't eat pasta or dairy. As an Italian, I would never tell you that!" Laurentiis shared with La Cucina Italiana while promoting her 2021 cookbook, "Eat better, Feel better."
Though Laurentiis has created stunning and delicious meals for years, there are some food combinations her fans might find weird. For example, the chef revealed to Delish that she loves to dip cookies — specifically Nilla wafers and Milanos — in lemonade. While cookies like Oreos and chocolate chip are typically dipped in milk, Laurentiis shared, "You've got to try it."
Even more unusual, Laurentiis shared that her breakfast consists of brown rice cooked in olive oil. "I love the fat and decadence of the olive oil, and best of all, it fills me up and gives me energy to start the day!" Laurentiis shared, per Pop Sugar.
Warren Buffett is a junk food addict
People have often looked to billionaire businessman and investor Warren Buffett for advice on becoming successful. However, there's one thing that they might not want to emulate, and that's his diet. He told Fortune in 2015 about his obsession with Coca-Cola and the unhealthy amount he consumes daily. "I'm one-quarter Coca-Cola. If I eat 2,700 calories a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola. I drink at least five 12-ounce servings. I do it every day."
And that's not all. Buffett's diet also consists of eating chocolate-chip ice cream for breakfast and carrying Potato Stix around. However, he did share his philosophy for eating the way he does: "I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among six-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a six-year-old. It's the safest course I can take."
Buffett loves his junk food. According to CNN Business, his company, Berkshire Hathaway, is Coca-Cola's largest shareholder. Buffett has also invested in McDonald's, See's Candies, and Dairy Queen. And, with a love of burgers and fries, he told CNBC that he has a gold card at McDonald's, which means Buffett can eat at any of the fast food chain's Omaha, Nebraska locations (where he resides) for free.
Victoria Beckham eats the same thing every day
Fashion designer Victoria Beckham isn't a big foodie. In fact, her husband, retired soccer star David Beckham, revealed that his wife eats the same thing every day and has been doing so for the past 25 years. "Since I met Victoria, she only eats grilled fish and steamed vegetables. She'll very rarely deviate away from there," Beckham told the River Cafe Table 4 podcast. However, the Spice Girl did switch it up one time when she shared a meal with her husband, who called it "the most amazing thing," adding, "It was one of my favorite evenings. I can't remember what it was, but I know she's not eaten it since."
It must be challenging for Beckham, who admitted on the same podcast that he gets "quite emotional about food and wine." Thankfully, he can share those passions with the couple's son, Brooklyn Beckham, who aspires to be a chef. Brooklyn began his cooking journey in December 2021 with his series "Cookin' With Brooklyn." He told Vogue, "I'm kind of a shy person, so I sometimes have trouble expressing myself to people or talking to people, but cooking really helps you connect with people anywhere." It looks like Brooklyn will use his famous father as his guinea pig!
