Valerie Bertinelli Once Admitted To Cheating On Eddie Van Halen

Back in the day, Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen were one of the hottest pairs in Hollywood. While Bertinelli starred in hit shows like "One Day at a Time" as well as films, Van Halen made a name for himself as a bona fide rock star and one of the greatest guitarists to ever play. Together, they were a power couple. According to People, the pair met in 1980 and tied the knot the following year. At the time, Bertinelli was only 21 years old, while Van Halen was 26 years old. During their marriage, the couple welcomed one son, Wolfgang Van Halen, who has followed in the footsteps of his famous father by becoming a musician.

Page Six reports that Bertinelli and Van Halen remained married for over 20 years — which is a good chunk of time in Hollywood. However, Bertinelli and Van Halen separated in 2001. According to People, Bertinelli filed for divorce in 2005 after the pair had been separated for several years. Bertinelli's publicist, Heidi Schaeffer, told the Associated Press that the split was "amicable." And, it wasn't until 2007 that they made their divorce official — which means that the pair were actually married for 25 years total. People shared some court documents from the couple's filing in Los Angeles. "The parties have resolved all their issues amicably in mediation. Neither spouse shall take unfair advantage of the other spouse," one of the documents read.

Sadly, the marriage was plagued by infidelity.

Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen were both unfaithful

Things were not always easy in the love story between Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen. Bertinelli got candid about her infidelity to Van Halen in a 2008 interview with Oprah. In the interview, Bertinelli confessed that when she was 25 years old, she was unfaithful to Van Halen with the drummer of an unnamed band with whom her brother was friends. She confessed that she was "infatuated" with the guy at the time. "I just wanted somebody to touch me and love me. And I wasn't getting it at home," she explained to Winfrey. "Now, that's not an excuse. What I should have done is dealt with the problems in our marriage, separated, and then if I want to go do something, I can. But it was a big, huge wrong choice."

While Bertinelli clearly felt bad about her infidelity, she was not the only party who made poor decisions. In the same interview with Winfrey, Bertinelli revealed that Van Halen hadn't been faithful throughout their marriage, and he cheated more than once. In one instance, Bertinelli says she overheard the rocker talking to someone she thought was a woman, saying he "wanted out of the marriage." In another example, a man called Bertinelli and accused Van Halen of sleeping with his wife. "When I got off, I was crying, but I was like, 'I can't believe I just had that conversation,'" Bertinelli confessed. So sad.

Valerie Bertinelli and Eddie Van Halen made up before he died

Eddie Van Halen's life ended on good terms with Valerie Bertinelli. According to People, Bertinelli wrote about the topic in her book, "Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today." She detailed a conversation that happened in 2019 as Van Halen was sick with cancer. The guitarist brought Bertinelli a gift and confessed how much he loved her. "He wants me to know he messed up [during our marriage]," she wrote in the book. "I contributed to our troubles, too and I am also sorry." In the book, Bertinelli also referred to Van Halen as her "soulmate," and she had plenty of nice things to say about him despite their rocky past. "I loved Ed more than I know how to explain. I loved his soul," she wrote.

The "Hot in Cleveland" star also gushed over Van Halen in an Instagram post after his death from cancer on October 6, 2020. To accompany the caption, Bertinelli included a black-and-white photo with Van Halen, herself, and their son, Wolfgang. "40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you. You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang," she wrote on the upload before stating that Van Halen never lost his "gorgeous spirit and that impish grin" amid his lung cancer diagnosis. Cue tears.
