How Kyra Sedgwick Found Out She Was Actually Related To Husband Kevin Bacon

Is it just us, or have Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick been married forever? Well, in Hollywood years, they pretty much have been married forever. According to People, the famous duo tied the knot in 1988, and as of this writing, they have 34 years of marriage under their belts. Pretty amazing if you ask us! The couple share two children, Travis and Sosie Bacon, and some fans might recognize Sosie from the series "Mare of Easttown" and "As We See It."

Bacon and Sedgwick have an adorable romance that fans get to see play out on social media, as they regularly post videos of themselves showing off their musical talents, singing duets as Bacon mans the guitar. Really, is there anything that these two can't do? In 2022, Bacon shared a throwback photo of himself and Sedgwick on Valentine's Day. He accompanied the sweet pic with an even sweeter caption that's enough to make anyone swoon. "Happy #ValentinesDay to The One. Truth is, it's more of a 365 kind of thing," the "Footloose" star wrote.

In 2019, Sedgwick paid tribute to Bacon on their anniversary. "Not sure how I was so smart at the clueless age of 23.... but I am eternally grateful I did one thing right! 31 years- I love you so!" she gushed, tagging Bacon in the caption. There's no doubt they make a cute married couple, but they also happen to make fun... distant cousins, if you can believe that.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon hits home for Kyra Sedgwick

This time, six degrees of Kevin Bacon led him back to his wife, Kyra Sedgwick. While the pair is related in holy matrimony already, they also happen to be distant cousins — who would have thunk it? The New York Daily News reports that the couple discovered that they're related while appearing on the PBS show, "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr." The series uses genealogy research to find people's roots and family connections, and that's when Bacon and Sedgwick realized they were distantly related. According to Meaww, the famous couple are ninth cousins, once removed. This makes us wonder if we're related to Bacon, too? "See. I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I knew it!" Sedgwick exclaimed on the show when she heard the news.

Sedgwick also talked about the crazy discovery years later, during a 2017 interview with The Wrap, and it turns out she wasn't as surprised as we were to find out the relation, ahem other relation, to her husband. "I figured I was going to be related to Kevin Bacon — I mean, most white people are related, ultimately," Sedgwick revealed. "I wasn't surprised, honestly. Frankly, I figured that was part of the reason that they wanted to do both of us. I had to act surprised." Hey, at least her acting skills were put to good use!

Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick go way back

If you can believe it, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick met each other way before they began dating in the '80s. "She was 12. I was 19 and at the Cherry Lane Theatre downtown doing a play," Bacon explained to Parade (via Hello Magazine). Since Sedgwick's mom was a fan of the theatre, she urged Sedgwick to go see Bacon perform in the show that she had already seen. "So she went to a matinee with her brother and then went to a deli," Bacon revealed. "I was there getting a sandwich before the evening show, and [her brother] said, 'That's the actor! Go talk to him.'" Sedgwick ended up introducing herself, and several years later, they linked up again on the set of "Lemon Sky" in 1988.

But, on the set of the movie, it wasn't love at second sight — at least not for Sedgwick. "I found her, you know, really very beautiful and sexy and aloof," he told Piers Morgan. "And I was just immediately in love with her and she was just immediately put off by me." In turn, Sedgwick told Redbook the same thing. "He definitely wasn't my type. In fact, I vividly remember looking at his butt when he walked away after we first met and thinking, 'Well, I guess some girls like that.' And now it's one of my favorite parts of his anatomy! That's probably too much information!" she joked. This is why we adore them!
