The Rap Producer In Budweiser's Super Bowl 2023 Commercial Is Behind The Hottest Music Today
Whether you're a fan of the NFL or not, you've probably heard of the Super Bowl. Since its inception, the celebrated sporting event has hosted an array of popular football teams, while also featuring the music industry's hottest talents for its halftime shows and national anthem performances. However, in addition to the show-stopping talent on and off the field, the event has also become home to some of the most notorious commercials. From the Britney Spears-led "The Joy Of Pepsi" commercial to Snickers' "You're Not You When Your Hungry" ad, the Super Bowl has attracted a dedicated fanbase for its advertisements alone.
In a 2021 survey from Statista, 43% of viewers polled claimed that they watched the big game purely for the commercials. On February 12, another round of Super Bowl commercials are set to air during the highly anticipated game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. As in previous years, an array of celebrities have been confirmed to headline a string of advertisements, including the talented music producer Metro Boomin, per Reuters. Metro Boomin Super Bowl commercial pays homage to his hometown of St. Louis
With Super Bowl LVII right around the corner, Budweiser released its new commercial, "Six Degrees of Budweiser," on January 31. which features actor Kevin Bacon as the narrator, per People. Throughout the ad, different people from various communities are shown passing a six-pack of the aforementioned beer. "Who drinks Budweiser? You know the type — the people who grind, those who don't back down, and those who don't quit," Bacon says in a voiceover. Toward the end of the commercial, Budweiser partner and acclaimed music producer Metro Boomin appears as one of the six individuals to take the titular beverage. "They say all people are six degrees of separation from each other, but some are just a six-pack away," Bacon adds before the beer is offered to the viewer.
In an interview with Billboard, Metro opened up about the commercial and revealed that the collaboration was "a golden opportunity" to highlight his hometown of St. Louis. "Budweiser being in St. Louis and me being born and raised in St. Louis and always representing and speaking out for [the city], I saw as a golden opportunity." He went on to explain to the publication that the iconic beer has been a staple in his life due to his family and friends buying it and visiting the Anheuser-Busch Factory as a kid. "That just goes to show you how big of an impact Budweiser has had on the whole city," he added.
Metro Boomin curated a successful career before his Budweiser partnership
Before teaming up with Budweiser for their "Six Degrees of Bud" Super Bowl commercial, Metro Boomin made waves as one of the music industry's most popular producers. Over the course of his 10-year career, the young talent has released an array of critically acclaimed projects and worked with some of the industry's biggest artists, including Nicki Minaj, Future, Young Thug, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Gunna and more, per Highsnobiety. Metro's influential music has also landed an array of high-profile partnerships and gigs. In December 2022, the "HEROES & VILLIANS" artist and Sony revealed that he would be working on music for the upcoming "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" film.
"If anybody is going to make something that feels like it's Miles' experience, [Metro Boomin] knows what he's doing," said the film's producer Chris Miller, per Hypebeast. Alongside his budding collaboration with Sony, Metro was also announced as a headliner for Coachella 2023, which is set to feature Frank Ocean and Pusha T, as well. "Grateful for this opportunity to bring my vision and ideas to the big stage at [Coachella] this year. I promise you that the same level of effort I put into my music is going into this performance," he tweeted on January 10. It's safe to say that Metro's star is showing no signs of burning out.
