Celebs Who Can't Stand Bristol Palin
The apple didn't fall too far from the tree when it comes to Sarah Palin's oldest daughter, Bristol Palin. The former Governor of Alaska famously got into beefs with everyone from talk show legend David Letterman, Meghan Markle obsessive Piers Morgan, shock comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, to House Speaker Paul Ryan following her surprise appointment as John McCain's running mate in 2008.
And Bristol Palin appears to have inherited her mother's uncanny ability to pick a fight with individuals from all walks of life, and in the most public way possible, too. Indeed, since rising to fame via proxy, the two-time "Dancing With the Stars" contestant has engaged in high-profile feuds with high-maintenance reality stars, Presidential candidate daughters and even her own in-laws.
Here's a look at some famous faces who, just like most of the American television-viewing public, are unlikely to have ever binge-watched "Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp."
Sunny Johnston is baffled by Bristol Palin
In 2020, Sunny Johnston took to Instagram to share the news that her stepson Tripp Palin was in hospital with viral meningitis, accompanied by a picture of the youngster holding his father Levi Johnston's hand. And it's fair to say that the patient's mother didn't appreciate her son's illness being used for social media clout.
Indeed, just two days later, Bristol Palin hit the same photo-sharing platform to throw some passive-aggressive shade at her ex-partner's new beau for disclosing such information in public. When questioned by a follower about Tripp's progress on an Instagram story, the "Teen Mom" star replied (via The Sun), "I saw an article about that ... it honestly bothers me that Tripp's privacy couldn't be respected — but I've seen a hundred comments on this, so I'll clear it up."
Bristol went on to clarify that, contrary to Sunny's claims, Tripp didn't test positive for meningitis or any other serious condition. And that the trip to hospital was only a precautionary measure after his temperature rose to a worryingly high 105 degrees. In another thinly-veiled insult, she added, "I think he just needed his mama!" Sunny later admitted on Instagram that she was left baffled by Bristol's indirect attack.
Farrah Abraham believes Bristol Palin is jealous of her
Bristol Palin's 2018 appeared to be dominated by her feud with fellow "Teen Mom" star Farrah Abraham. The drama began when the reality star — mother to Tripp, Atlee and Sailor — complained in an Instagram post (via The Wrap) about her portrayal on the MTV show: "All they want with my little segment each week is some fake fill-in Farrah Abraham/Jerry Springer BS."
Of course, the series' regular tantrum-throwing breakout star, who'd previously boasted to TMZ that she was irreplaceable having left the reality show in acrimonious circumstances, was never going to take such a diss lying down. After claiming that she'd left her Jerry Springer tendencies behind, Abraham told TMZ that Palin wasn't a suitable fit for national television.
The original "Teen Mom" also claimed that the root of such shade-throwing was down to one thing: pure jealousy. She said, "I think she just wants to [be] a Farrah Abraham herself, like many of the other women who say they just hate me. They think the worst of me, but then they only wish that they could have what I have."
Meghan McCain labeled Bristol Palin ridiculous
Sarah Palin may have served as the running mate of 2008 Presidential candidate John McCain, but there's certainly no love lost between their respective eldest daughters. Indeed, just two years after their parents lost out to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, Meghan McCain publicly took aim at Bristol Palin for her lack of political awareness.
Meghan, who has established her own career as a conservative talking head and panelist, felt compelled to speak out after Bristol told Inside Edition that she wasn't going to cast her midterm elections vote. The latter said, "I did not send in my absentee ballot in Alaska. I'm going to be in trouble. Sorry, Mom!"
In response, Meghan told she believes that anyone who fails to vote is "just ridiculous" (via Yahoo! News). Referring to her new nemesis' stint on ABC's most-watched talent contest, the future "The View" regular went on to add, "I guess it's only important to Bristol Palin to vote for "Dancing with the Stars."
Kathy Griffin compared Bristol Palin to Jay Leno
You could argue that Bristol Palin should have been flattered when she received a roasting from Kathy Griffin in 2011. After all, it's essentially a celebrity rite of passage to be taken down by the flame-haired comedian. But it's unlikely that the "Teen Mom" star would have seen it that way.
Indeed, Griffin certainly didn't pull any punches when she turned the topic of conversation to Palin's new cosmetic surgery during her live stand-up show "Gurrl Down" (via Channel Guide Mag), comparing her unfavorably to one of the late-night talk show circuit's most distinctive-looking men: "So Bristol Palin has this brand new chin, and I swear to God she looks like Jay Leno. It's like she took a picture of Jay Leno, went to the dentist and said, 'Can I have this?' I mean, I'm just saying. It's like out there."
Griffin then referred to the statement in which Palin claimed that she'd undergone the procedure to her chin for medical reasons. The "My Life on the D-List" star, who's been under the knife several times, quipped, "No, that's true because when I had my first face lift it was because I was fighting scurvy. And when I had my eye job it was because I had rickets."
JWoww told Bristol Palin to shut her ignorant mouth
You wouldn't necessarily expect a "Jersey Shore" star who once urinated behind a bar on camera to be a political voice of reason. But that's exactly what happened in 2012 when a certain Jenni Farley, aka wild reality TV favorite JWoww, took to Twitter to give Bristol Palin a piece of her mind.
The daughter of former Alaska governor Sarah Palin came under fire after attacking Barack Obama over his endorsement of same-sex marriage. The POTUS had explained that his decision was inspired by the LGBTQ parents of his daughters' friends. But in a blog entry, Bristol argued, "In this case, it would've been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends' parents are no doubt lovely people, that's not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage."
In response, a defiant Farley tweeted, "Bristol should keep her uneducated ignorant mouth shut. If you're living in the past, you wouldn't have a kid without marriage #hypocrite. It's 2012!"
Samantha Ronson questioned Bristol Palin's parenting skills
Jenni 'JWoww' Farley wasn't the only celebrity to blast Bristol Palin for her criticism of Barack Obama's same-sex marriage endorsement. In fact, we could fill this entire list with famous faces who told the "Teen Mom" star exactly what they thought of such comments in no uncertain terms, including Perez Hilton, Sherri Shepherd and Lo Bosworth just to name a few.
One of the most scathing replies, however, came from Samantha Ronson, the sister of hitmaker Mark Ronson and one-time lover of wild child Lindsay Lohan. Responding to one particularly contentious point in Bristol's blog post, the DJ tweeted, "'We know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home.' Really Bristol Palin? How's your kid doing?"
Bristol had previously spent years in an on/off relationship with Levi Johnston, the parent of her then-only child Tripp, and at one point was also locked in a bitter custody battle. In 2012, the same year that the "Dancing with the Stars" contestant wrote her anti-gay marriage post, her three-year-old son was filmed using a homophobic slur on camera.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy believed Bristol Palin should feel shame
During her 2010 stint on ABC's flagship talent show "Dancing with the Stars," Bristol Palin gave an interview to In Touch in which she claimed that Maksim Chmerkovskiy essentially had it in for her. "He thinks I don't deserve to be here because I'm not the best dancer," she insisted (via HuffPost). That was news to the Ukrainian-American, though.
Indeed, following his and partner Brandy's surprise elimination in week seven, Chmerkovskiy set the record straight in a chat with E! News. Firstly, he denied that he'd previously been a Palin hater, and secondly he pretty much confirmed that he now was: "Every time I've opened my mouth about Bristol, I've been nothing but supportive ... For her to come out on Monday night and totally smear my name the way she did, that's just completely uncalled for."
And Chmerkovskiy, who also spoke out about the show's 'flawed' voting system in the wake of his departure, believed that his fellow competitor should take a long hard look at herself: "I have no idea where she got it from, but wherever she got it from, shame on her and shame on whoever told her that."
Anderson Cooper told Bristol Palin to get a job
Bristol Palin also managed to rub another famous face the wrong way during her second "Dancing with the Stars" stint. Although unlike Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Anderson Cooper had nothing to do with the ABC show.
The CNN regular was hosting his self-titled show when he suddenly turned into a grouchy careers advisor: "I'm thinking of starting a job fair for people — I think there's a whole bunch of people who just need to get jobs. Lindsay Lohan, Bristol Palin ... I think they need to just get some jobs!" Who knows what poor Lohan had done to offend the reluctant silver fox? But Cooper did clarify what his beef with Palin was: her tendency to be over-dramatic.
While also giving the "Teen Mom" star something of a backhanded compliment, the newscaster explained, "Anybody who's on a reality show now knows that, to get attention, you need to take it to another level ... Bristol Palin is a genius. Last night, she developed a story line that made her very sympathetic. She had this meltdown, saying that her dancing partner really doesn't want to be her dancing partner." Anderson told co-host Deborah Norville that he wasn't convinced the meltdown was genuine due to the fact she was both chewing gum and incessantly texting throughout.
Bill Maher called out Bristol Palin's hypocrisy
Bill Maher has never been one to mince his words about public figures, no matter which end of the political spectrum they may lie. And in 2015, it was Bristol Palin's turn to incur the wrath of the sharp-tongued funnyman.
During an episode of his late-night talk show, "Real Time with Bill Maher," the comedian brought up the subject of the "Life's A Tripp" star, and in particular, the hypocrisy of her family values stance. He said, "I don't usually go after the children of candidates, but c'mon. Bristol, who after she had the first baby, out of wedlock, got paid to be an abstinence spokesman and is now pregnant with her second child out of wedlock. This chick can see Russia from her bed. Instead of shooting wolves, Sarah Palin should have them raise her kids" (via The Daily Beast).
Of course, this wasn't the first time (and it wouldn't be the last time, either) that Maher took aim at Palin. In 2012, he mocked the reality TV star for her accusation that President Barack Obama was pandering to "Glee" viewers, while nine years later, he jokingly predicted that she would eventually get engaged to teenage gunman Kyle Rittenhouse.
Mercedes Johnston described Bristol Palin as a sociopath
We can't imagine that Bristol Palin is ever invited to ex-fiance Levi Johnston's family gatherings anymore. As well as getting passive-aggressive with his new wife Sandy, the reality TV star also appears to have greatly upset his sister.
In a no-holds-barred 2011 interview with Playboy (via Us Weekly), Mercedes Johnston described Palin as a sociopath, adding, "She has to have her own way. She'll be supersweet and then she turns into the most evil person I've ever known ... Honestly, she is the meanest person. I didn't know someone could be so vindictive and evil ... She doesn't think anything she could do or does is wrong." Say what you really think Mercedes!
The then-19-year-old wasn't done there, either. She also claimed that Bristol would often rely on sex to get what she wanted and that contrary to reports, her first pregnancy wasn't a surprise at all but something that had been planned for months. And despite Levi's attempts to swear her to secrecy, Mercedes still let slip that her nemesis had undergone liposuction before son Tripp was born.
Azealia Banks advised Bristol Palin to get birth control
The unlikely beef between former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin and motormouthed rapper Azealia Banks took another turn in April 2016 when the former's daughter got involved. And as a result, Bristol Palin inevitably received her fair share of smackdowns, too.
The "Teen Mom" star decided to wade into all the drama after her own kids Sailor and Tripp were referenced in an open apology letter Azealia had sent to Sarah. "If Bristol Palin listened to my music she probably wouldn't have all those cotdamn kids," the "212" hitmaker wrote before adding hashtags such as "stayinschool" (via Essence).
Bristol then sarcastically asked Azealia exactly which songs she should expose her kids to, reeling off a plethora of expletive-filled titles to make her point in one of her many blog posts. Undeterred, the "Love Beats Rhymes" star responded with the charming tweet, "Bristol Palin need to shut it the f*** up and get herself a NuvaRing." According to Mail Online, Azealia then deleted said message after a fan begged her not to give the press more reasons to hate her.
Keith Olbermann named Bristol Palin the worst person in the world
In 2010, Bristol Palin appeared alongside one of the biggest "Jersey Shore" stars in an excruciating commercial for the abstinence-promoting Candies Foundation in which she was asked if she'd "ever had a situation with The Situation." Not only was the clip a source of major second-hand embarrassment, it was also seen as a sign of hypocrisy: by this point the daughter of Sarah Palin was already an unmarried teenage mom.
And few expressed their disdain at the ad more than MSNBC favorite Keith Olbermann. While hosting his show "Countdown with ..." the newscaster featured Palin in his regular "Worst Person in the World" segment and assured viewers that the video in question wasn't from the team behind spoof site The Onion.
Olbermann, who was soon given a dressing down of his own by the object of his ire, went on to add (via TODAY), "She's the Candies spokesperson for abstinence? She and her son? Because it's got to work this time? This is like saying George Bush kept us safe except for that 9/11 thing, which doesn't count."
Rebecca Mansour called Bristol Palin a liability
Bristol Palin was no doubt left mightily red-faced in 2011 when leaked text messages showed that she wasn't exactly Miss Popular within her mother's team. Yes, it's fair to say that Rebecca Mansour, who'd helped to guide Sarah Palin's career since leaving her Governor of Alaska post, wasn't a big fan.
In one of the exchanges that found their way to the Daily Caller, Mansour writes, "Two words: Patti Davis. Okay three more: Ron Reagan Junior. Two more: Billy Carter. Doesn't your family have one?" If you're not entirely au fait with the history of political offspring, then the three names in question are widely regarded as the black sheep of their families.
Mansour, who, according to Gawker, initially denied that she'd composed such insults before holding her hands up, also told the unnamed receiver that her boss would hold Bristol at arm's length. She added, "Even [Margaret] Thatcher was never able to disown her screw up son Mark. It's a Mom thing."
Randy Bryce advised Bristol Palin to sell condoms
In 2015, Bristol Palin, the reality TV star who'd aligned herself with the abstinence movement, took to her blog to reveal the news that she was pregnant for a second time. And she wasn't exactly jumping for joy, admitting that her family and friends would be disappointed in her before clarifying, "I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy."
Randy Bryce, who later challenged Paul Ryan for the Speaker of the House, obviously didn't get the memo. In a tweet some believed was a tad insensitive, the politician said (via Daily Caller), "I'd suggest a career selling condoms instead of abstinence." He also tagged in Trojan Condoms to ask them if they needed any new help.
Lauren Hitt, a Bryce campaign spokesperson, quickly apologized for the since-deleted tweet, explaining, "Randy was very, very frustrated by the culture of judgement and shame pushed by some extreme representatives of the abstinence-only community, but he appreciates that responding in kind was not the right way to express that." But the man himself never actually walked back his condom quip.
