What We Know About Deion Sanders' Children
Following the legacy of their ultimate athlete of a father, Deion Sanders' children have a lot to live up to, and it looks like Sanders himself pushes them toward greatness.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the athlete — Sanders was nicknamed "Prime Time" for his incredible on-field abilities — not only had a legendary football career, but he also dedicated time to playing professional baseball in the MLB. He bounced between the two sports, being drafted for teams like the Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves. One time, he even played in an NFL game and an MLB match on the same day, as retold by The Sun. To this day, he's the only athlete to ever appear in both the Super Bowl and the World Series, the highest pinnacles of both sports, per Cut4. Sanders was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
Long after his 2005 retirement, Sanders became "Coach Prime" when he transitioned to coaching. He became head coach of the Jackson State University football team in 2020. At the end of 2022, Coach Prime made the move from JSU to coaching the University of Colorado Boulder squad, per GQ.
With an extensive legacy like that to live up to, who are his five children, and what do they do today?
Deion Sanders' five talented kids
Sanders has a total of five children from two marriages. First, Sanders married realtor Carolyn Chambers in 1989 and they had two children, per The Sun. Born in 1992, the eldest Sanders child is Deiondra Sanders. According to her LinkedIn, Deiondra serves as the Director of Communications and Client Relations at SC3 Sports Management in Atlanta. She began a YouTube channel in December 2022, where she opened up about her reputation as the "rebel child" in her family. The eldest son of Deion Sr. is Deion Sanders Jr., who was born a year after Deiondra. Deion Jr. attended Southern Methodist University, where he played college football. After college, he decided to "find another way to 'ball' without sports," by creating a luxury clothing brand, Well Off. He also regularly posts on his YouTube channel, Well Off Media, about his father's adventures in Colorado.
Deion Sr. later married Pilar Biggers in 1999, who birthed three more children. Shilo Sanders, his third child with a birthday in 2000, played football for the University of South Carolina but literally followed his dad's footsteps by joining him at Jackson State University, per 24/7 Sports. Baby number four came in 2002. Shedeur Sanders is also an all-star football player with over 1 million followers on Instagram, as of this writing. The youngest of them all, born in 2003, is his basketball-playing daughter, Shelomi Sanders. Shilo, Shedeur, and Shelomi were attending and playing at Jackson State University until their father's departure to Colorado.
The Sanders family made the move to Colorado
With Deion Sanders making the move to the University of Colorado Boulder, it looks like his children, Shilo, Shedeur, and Shelomi, transferred from Jackson State University to the mountainous city's college. According to Sports Illustrated, Shilo officially transferred to the University of Colorado. Shedeur posted a photo in his new Colorado football uniform in December 2022. Buffaloes Wire reported that Shelomi is set to play for the women's basketball team. In January 2023, Shilo posted a vlog of the three siblings moving to their residences in Boulder.
With Shilo and Shedeur on their father's new football team, Deion insists that he isn't afraid of being hard on them as a coach. "I've coached my kids their whole entire life," Deion said during an interview with 11Alive in 2021. "I'm a different type of father, but I just want my kids to be smart, tough, fast, and disciplined with character. That's what I demand, and I don't fluctuate from that."
Family is clearly a priority in the legendary football player's life. According to People, the brand Oikos is even making a commercial for the upcoming 2023 Super Bowl based on that love for his family.
