Why Summer House's Amanda Batula And Hannah Berner Aren't Close Anymore
"Summer House" follows the glamorous antics of friends who share a Summer house In Montauk, Long Island. Of course, chaos quickly ensues, giving viewers a front-row seat to the cast's various feuds, hookups, and breakups. Oh, and you can't forget about the many friendships which have supplied the show with more entertainment than Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula's up-and-down relationship (via Us Weekly). One of the most notable is Hannah Berner and Paige De Sorbo's infamous friendship — which got them dubbed the "giggle squad." Even though Berner won't return to "Summer House" after her Season 5 exit, per Page Six, they've maintained their friendship and continue to work together in other capacities.
In the past, Hannah Berner and Amanda Batula seemed to share a similar bond. From the time Berner joined the cast during "Season 3," she and Batula were as thick as thieves. However, by the time Berner left the show, they were nearly enemies. While it's natural for relationships to go through phases, their evolution from friends to foes is definitely a bit of a head-scratcher. So just what happened between Berner and Batula?
Hannah Berner's complicated relationship with Kyle Cooke didn't help her friendship with Amanda
Hannah Berner and Amanda Batula were super close in the beginning, but there was always a third cast member influencing their friendship: Batula's now-husband Kyle Cooke. As you may recall, Berner and Cooke were also initially friends. However, their relationship grew more complicated in Season 5. Between on-air confrontations about whose responsibility it was to take out the trash or Berner's decision to speak out against Cooke's supposed superiority complex on podcasts (via Entertainment Tonight), things became quite tense between Berner and Cooke. However, things really crumbled after Berner was intimate with her fiancé in Cooke and Batula's bathroom, leading the couple to criticize her on camera.
Batula also once launched a glass toward Berner during a particularly dramatic fight (via The Sun). Additionally, Batula also didn't appreciate the way that Berner spoke negatively about her relationship with Cooke, per Us Weekly. As the publication noted, Berner seemed to indirectly agree that her grievances about their friendship were because of Cooke. "I love Amanda," shared Berner. "I think that the only time we've ever, ever had any form of beef is involving Kyle. When, you know, things happened in the past with their relationship, I've only been so supportive. She's cried on my shoulder, Kyle's cried on my shoulder. I've always been there for them. So it's been interesting to watch what they're trying to do."
Amanda Batula and Kyle Cooke didn't invite Hannah Berner to their wedding
Ultimately, Hannah Berner and Amanda Batula's mounting tension culminated in a disastrous encounter at the Season 5 reunion. While Berner's frequent podcast appearances had her at odds with several of her co-stars, the drama between her, Batula, and Cooke was the most volatile. Berner announced her exit shortly after the reunion, leading viewers to wonder what would come of her relationship with Batula and Cooke ahead of their wedding.
In the end, the couple decided to not invite Berner to their big day — a decision that Batula stands by. "At this point, I'm more sad about, like, where our relationship has gone vs her being there or not," shared Batula to Us Weekly. "It's our wedding day and we just want to be surrounded by, like, happiness and positivity. So, it's not really going to make an impact. ... I'm more upset about where things have gone and how they've gotten here." Ultimately, Berner didn't attend the couple's nuptials, which took place on September 25, 2021. However, she previously joked that, if she wasn't invited, she'd show up unannounced (via Bravo). Looks like Berner's backup plan didn't exactly pan out.
