What's The Age Difference Between Kevin Costner And His Wife?
Kevin Costner's life is all about "Yellowstone" since the show's premiere in 2018. The ranching saga has picked up a major cult following and fans are obsessed. The cast is also pretty into it. Kelly Reilly, who plays Costner's on-screen daughter, Beth Dutton, says working alongside the Hollywood legend is "wonderful." We're not surprised.
Costner was nominated for his portrayal of John Dutton at the 2023 Golden Globes — and won — but he had to skip the ceremony because of flooding near his home in California. But Costner got active on social media where he couldn't in real life. "Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press and @goldenglobes for this tremendous honor and to the @Yellowstone team for bringing John Dutton's world to life. I share this recognition with my castmates, the producers, and our incredible crew," he tweeted.
But "Yellowstone" isn't the only big thing in Costner's life. He's a husband and father of seven. He was married to Cindy Silva Costner, but the two ended up divorcing after 16 years of marriage. He found love again with Christine Baumgartner and the two have enjoyed a long and happy relationship, in spite of a somewhat sizable age gap.
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner have a 19-year age gap
Kevin Costner actually met Christine Baumgartner when he was married to his first wife, Cindy Silva Costner. They met on the set of the 1996 golf movie "Tin Cup," according to People, but didn't reconnect until years later. After Costner and his first wife divorced, he began a relationship with Bridget Rooney, who is the niece of Dan Rooney, a one-time owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers. They welcomed a child, Liam, in 1996.
In 1998, Costner ran into Baumgartner at a restaurant and they hit it off. "We exchanged numbers, and I told her that I would — did she mind if I called her in two weeks. I did not realize that was like an insult to a woman," he told People. Costner and Baumgartner almost didn't make it. He was already a father to three children — Annie, Lily, and Joe — by his first marriage, and had Liam by his previous relationship, and felt he didn't want any more kids. For Baumgartner, this was a deal-breaker. "She said, 'I'm going to wait for you, but not long. When you come to your senses, come back to me,'" Costner told Parade. He quickly came to his senses and the two married in 2004, despite their 19-year age gap.
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner sneak off in their house to make out
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner welcomed three children of their own: Cayden Wyatt, Hayes Logan, and Grace Avery, per People. Not only did they get to have a family of their own, but Costner also helped Baumgartner achieve the career of her dreams. She had previously worked as a model, but decided later that she wanted to design bags and laptop cases. So, she created Cat Bag Couture with her husband's help.
"When I came up with some samples, I showed them to Kevin, and he said they were beautiful and amazing," she told The Denver Post in 2005. "He told me I should take it to the next step and he'd help me. I've always loved fashion and style, and if you can mix it with function, it's perfect."
But it's not just their family and business that's thriving. Their relationship itself is sweet and full of affection. While chatting with "Live" host Kelly Ripa, Costner spoke about how they keep the spark alive. Ripa mentioned an old story Costner told about how he and Baumgartner will sometimes park their car in a secluded spot and make out. Costner said they still did that and joked that with kids, they have to find corners of the house to go smooch. "My wife is really cute to me," he said. Sounds like there's a lot of love there!
