The Real-Life Relationship Between Hallmark Stars Kevin McGarry And Kayla Wallace
Kayla Wallace and Kevin McGarry have played each other's love interests in both "Feeling Butterflies" and "My Grown-Up Christmas List," but when it comes to their relationship off-screen, there's no acting involved.
The IRL lovebirds were first linked to each other back in 2020, when McGarry shared a sweet shot that featured polaroid pictures of himself and Wallace to Instagram, along with the caption, "Photo evidence." At the time, the pair were relative newbies to Hallmark's "When Calls The Heart," and it's safe to say fans of the show were overjoyed when the two went Instagram official with their relationship. As one fan commented, "The hearties are definitely in support of this!" Another mused that they'd love to see the two become an item on the show, too, quipping, "Please tell me there will be Nathan & Fiona in S8."
Fans waiting to see the two lovers portray a romantic couple on the small screen were treated to two Hallmark movies this year. In response to Wallace's Instagram post about "My Grown-Up Christmas List," one fan wrote that she had been blown away by seeing them together in the film. "They truly are perfect together. A real life love story," they wrote. Another agreed, commenting, "Sweetest couple ever on screen & off!" We can't help but wonder a bit about the 'off' portion — so what do we know about these lovebirds?
They love working together
While there are certainly co-star-turned-couples who hate working together (we're looking at you Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher!), when it comes to Kevin McGarry and Kayla Wallace, they're all for it.
In fact, in a super-sweet Entertainment Tonight segment that saw the Hallmark lovebirds interview each other, Wallace told McGarry that working alongside him was a breeze. "Working across from somebody who you already have those feelings for, that part came super easy," she explained. McGarry agreed, noting, "It's easier to do, like, a romance movie with your partner." That's not to say "Feeling Butterflies" and "My Grown-Up Christmas List" didn't feature any acting from the real-life couple, though. In fact, sitting down with Everything About Hallmark, Wallace gushed over being able to meet her IRL boyfriend all over again, through the stories. "It was really fun to be able to ... work with somebody who you know so well, and then ... all of a sudden, you're in a scene where you don't know them and — like, you haven't met them, yet," she mused.
Given their enthusiasm, it only makes sense that in their Entertainment Tonight interview, Wallace shared she wouldn't hesitate to work with McGarry again. When asked about the likelihood of their working together again, she laughed, "100% I will work with Kevin McGarry again." And, despite joking that she was just saying that for the cameras, McGarry himself concurred. "You were just a pleasure to work with," he smiled. Ahw!
... and over the holidays, they shared exciting news
It's safe to say 2022 was a big year for Kayla Wallace and Kevin McGarry. And no, we're not referring to the two movies they co-starred in or the news that "When Calls The Heart" has been renewed for yet another season (via Hallmark Channel).
Sure, from a professional standpoint, they're thriving, but to say the same goes for their relationship would be an understatement. Enter a decidedly Hallmark-esque announcement, made on Christmas Eve-eve: Following in the footsteps of other Hallmark stars who are married in real life, the two are engaged! On December 23, the couple shared a collab post via Instagram, revealing the news. Captioned with a simple "Forever," the reel began with a focus on Wallace's brand-new sparkler before panning up to see the couple — both clad in camel coats and gray knitwear — lock lips as the sun goes down. In other words, the stuff of movies.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, given their support from the get-go, avid Hallmark Channel fans were quick to congratulate the pair. Some even pleaded with the network to write a movie about their love story. "We need a @hallmarkchannel movie based on you two!" one commenter begged. Wallace has said she'd "100%" work with McGarry again, and her husband-to-be has gushed over working with her (via Entertainment Tonight) — so we can dream, right?
