Why Ashley Olsen And Lance Armstrong's Relationship Didn't Last Long
Ashley Olsen has come a long way since her "Full House" days. She starred in the sitcom with her twin, Mary-Kate Olsen, when they were only infants, and remaining for the show's entire eight-season run. The sisters went on to star in a staggering amount of movies together, all while building a multi-million dollar business empire, per Biography. Despite being rich and famous, like all teenagers, the notoriously private Ashley suffered her share of heartbreak and romantic angst while growing up.
Over the years, Ashley managed to rack up a dating history that reads like a who's who of Hollywood and includes a number of surprising suitors. According to MSN, the child actor-turned-fashion mogul dated the actor Justin Bartha for three years. He was one of the few romances she publicly acknowledged. In 2009, Ashley told Marie Claire that the "Hangover" star helped keep her grounded and made her less "serious."
Ashley's also rumored to have repeatedly locked lips with Jared Leto — but then, who hasn't, in fairness? — and reportedly dated movie producer Matt Kaplan and director Bennett Miller, which involved a degree of controversy given that he's 20 years her senior. However, it appears that age is just a number for Ashley, as US Weekly reports she was linked to Lance Armstrong for a hot minute in 2007 when she was 21 and he was 36. So, why didn't Ashley Olsen and Lance Armstrong's relationship last very long?
Lance Armstrong broke up with Ashley Olsen to protect his image
As far as odd couples go, Ashley Olsen and Lance Armstrong are right up there. According to E! Online, rumors that the designer and disgraced cyclist were dating sprang up after they were spotted getting cozy in various hotspots around New York City. Armstrong was fresh out of a year-long relationship with another designer, Tory Burch, with whom he split in 2007, and not surprisingly, his reported romance with Olsen ruffled more than a few feathers.
Armstrong had retired two years prior after winning his seventh Tour de France. Allegations of Armstrong's blood doping had begun emerging in the press (via ESPN), so the last thing he needed was any more scandal or controversy. In her book, "Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong" (via UPI), New York Times writer Janet Macur claims that the athlete's friends were concerned that dating Olsen could wreck Armstrong's image — which, ultimately, he managed to do quite spectacularly all on his own.
According to Macur, Armstrong's longtime friend, John Korioth, "warned the 36-year-old father of three" that hooking up with a former child star, 15 years his junior, could prove detrimental to his cancer foundation, Livestrong. "Whoa, dude, bad idea. You've got to put a stop to this right now," Koriath reportedly told his buddy. "She's 21...F**k you," Macur claims Armstrong replied. However, UPI reports that he eventually listened to his friends and advisors and broke things off with Olsen.
Lance Armstrong's a distant memory for Ashley Olsen
Ashley Olsen and Lance Armstrong didn't spend any time weeping into their pillows. Armstrong's blood doping scandal had him battling for his career as it played out in public. The New York Times reports that Armstrong was "involved in a sprawling, sophisticated doping program" and stripped of his Tour de France titles and Olympic medal. Armstrong was also forced to step down from his beloved Livestrong Foundation, which he'd launched in 1997 after surviving testicular cancer.
Meanwhile, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen announced their retirement from acting in 2007 and dropped out of NYU. "[College was] more about the experience, about studying subjects we were interested in and learning what we did and didn't like," Ashley explained to USA Today. Instead, the twins focused on their booming fashion label, Elizabeth & James.
Then, in 2017, Ashley hung up her dating spurs for good after meeting her future husband, Louis Eisner. True to form, she kept their romance on the down-low. The couple was hardly ever spotted out and about together, and neither of them publicly discussed their relationship. Page Six reports that Ashley secretly tied the knot with the Eisner in a private ceremony attended by a small selection of friends and family at her Bel-air mansion in December 2022. "She is very close with her family. Louis is very close with his family too, and they were in attendance as well," a source told People, adding, "it was a perfect celebration."
