What All Of Donald Trump's Exes Have Said About Him
This article contains allegations of sexual assault.
Blunt, brazen, and highly controversial, former president Donald Trump has a reputation that precedes him. From his polarizing political stance to his occasionally inappropriate comments about his daughter, Ivanka Trump, with Donald, there's no telling where the next drama will come from. But even more controversial than his one-term presidency, are his occasional sexist comments. In 1992, New York Magazine famously quoted him as telling the architect, Philip Johnson, during a conversation about women, "You have to treat 'em like s***." Still, despite his many disparaging comments, the former president has a long list of romantic relationships attached to his name.
Between 1977 and 1992, Donald was married to Czech-American model, Ivana Trump with whom he welcomed his oldest kids, Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric. The real estate mogul's second attempt at marriage came in 1993 when he tied the knot to actor Marla Maples. Six years later, the couple went their separate ways. His third marriage, the longest-lasting so far, started in 2005 when he married Slovenian-American model, Melania Trump.
Unsurprisingly, since the end of their respective marriages to Donald, Ivana and Maples have on numerous occasions opened up about the relationship they had with the former president. And even though Melania told ABC News in 2018 that she loves her husband despite the numerous cheating allegations, several of Donald's women have proved they have no problem sharing what they think about the real estate mogul — both the good and the bad.
Ivana Trump described him as outspoken
Ivana Trump, Donald Trump's first wife, had a lot to say following the end of her 15-year marriage to the famed businessman. In 1990, she filed for divorce on the grounds that his new, public relationship with Marla Maples was cruel and had caused her mental anguish. Per the Daily Beast, the court documents further accused Donald of being verbally abusive and demeaning toward her, with the outlet also reporting an allegation that he had sexually violated her. Ivana refuted the claim, telling CNN, "The story is totally without merit."
In 1992, she reportedly lost an appeal against a confidentiality clause that prevented her from discussing the marriage, per Sun Journal. Still, Ivana has at least had more positive things to say about her ex-husband since. Speaking in 2016, the former model endorsed Donald's presidential aspiration, describing in detail why she believed he would be a great leader. "He's very outspoken. He just says it as it is," she told the New York Post. "He's no politician. He's a businessman. He knows how to talk. He can give an hour speech without notes . . . He's blunt."
Despite her initial support for Donald's presidency, Ivana did not feel very strongly about him running for a second term. "He has a good life and he has everything. Donald is going to be 74, 73 for the next [election] and maybe he should just go and play golf and enjoy his fortune," she told Page Six in 2018.

She claimed that Donald was an absent father
For a serial entrepreneur with political aspirations, something definitely had to give — for Donald Trump, it was family time. In her 2017 memoir, "Raising Trump," Ivana described Donald as somewhat absent in the lives of their children, Ivana, Donald Trump Jr, and Eric Trump. "I believe the credit for raising such great kids belongs to me," she wrote, per an excerpt published by Time. "I was in charge of raising our children before our divorce, and I had sole custody of them after the split." The former model also revealed that when it came to important decisions about the children, such as their allowance, where they went to school, and what activities they did for fun, amongst many other things, she called the shots. "When each one finished college, I said to my ex-husband, 'Here is the finished product. Now it's your turn," Ivana added.
Still, the mother of three insists that her ex-husband was not a terrible father. "Donald might not have been the greatest husband to me, but he was a good father to the kids. Obviously, they adore him and are fiercely loyal to him. If he were a horrible dad, that would not be the case," she explained. Unsurprisingly, the former president also prides himself in the great bond he shares with his kids given his 2004 comments in an interview. "You've probably figured out my children really like me — love me — a lot," he told New York Magazine.
Marla Maples says she met a vulnerable Trump
A tough nut to crack, don't expect Donald Trump to show any signs of vulnerability — at least not in public. However, behind closed doors, you just might have better luck, like his second wife, Marla Maples did. When asked what it was like to date the former president, Maples recounted being attracted to a softer side of him that he didn't show to the world. "I saw a vulnerable man, and I like vulnerability in people," she told Access Hollywood in 2016. Though she admits to having also been drawn to his unwavering goal-getting spirit, Maples insists that it was Trump's willingness to be sensitive with her that stood out. But, this was not the first time Maples had discussed Trump in a positive light.
During a 1990 interview with Vanity Fair, Maples swooned over the apparent complex qualities of her future husband. "[He is] a genius, adorable, with a little-boy quality," she gushed. "I mean, he knows when he's being too cute and he laughs at himself about it." In that same interview, the former model, who started dating Trump while he was still married to Ivana Trump, explained that despite the controversial start to their romance, what they shared was one for the books. "I believe I have a purpose and that there is a reason we're together," she told the outlet. "It's a good love, it's not a harmful love. It's a really good, trusting love."
Marla also slammed him for being egotistical
Marla Maples might have had several positive things to say about Donald Trump but the former actress may have also claimed some not-so-great qualities about her ex-husband and their short-lived union. "I think you always hope in a marriage that you can bring the best out in each other," Maples told Access Hollywood in 2016. "But after many years, we realized we weren't." In addition, Maples previously revealed that despite what seemed like a great love story, marrying her ex-husband was a mistake. In 1999, the same year the couple divorced, she told The Telegraph (via New York Post), "Donald was never the man I wanted to marry. He and his world were alien to me. I'm so happy to be away from Donald, and I'm just trying to move as far away as I can."
In the same interview, Maples also accused Trump of being utterly ego-driven, and of having obsessively pursued her for years before they got together. "I couldn't get away ... and, foolishly, I listened to some of his promises." The former actor added that her marriage to him felt built on a foundation of lies. She thought he would change his ways, but realized he was incapable. On the topic of Trump's presidential ambitions, she proclaimed, "I will feel it is my duty to tell the American people what he is really like. But I can't imagine that they would really elect him, would they?" A spokesperson for Maples suggested her comments were taken out of context.
Kara Young accused Donald Trump of racist comments
Following the end of his marriage to Marla Maples, Donald Trump started dating supermodel, Kara Young. "I didn't think he was my type, but it just ends up happening," Young recounted to Inside Edition of her first impression of Trump. "I know it's hard to believe, he's very funny and he had a really good personality." Despite what ended up being a short-lived romance, Young revealed that she and the Mar-a-Lago owner ended things on a pretty good note. "There was never any enemy or 'I hate you.' There was none of that with us," she told the publication. However, Young regardless had some reservations about comments the real estate guru had made during their relationship.
In Maggie Haberman's 2022 book, "Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America," the political journalist and White House correspondent claimed that the former president once made a racist comment to Young about her Black mother. "Trump told her that she had gotten her beauty from her mother and her intelligence 'from her dad, the white side,'" Haberman wrote.
However, despite believing he was only joking at the time, Young insists that she called the former president out on his inappropriate comment. "It wasn't a fight or anything like that, it was just more like — 'No. Don't say that, it's not funny,'" Young explained to Inside Edition. "He said 'I was just joking, I was just kidding. No, I don't think that.'"
Kylie Bax believed he would make a good president
Donald Trump clearly has a type! Back in the '90s, rumors of a relationship between him and the New Zealand model, Kylie Bax, abounded with the pair often spotted together at parties, per Yahoo! Sports. However, there has never been confirmation of a relationship from either Bax or Trump. Regardless of whether they dated or not, the model has maintained a friendship with Trump through the years, so much so she continues to support him despite his many controversies.
Ahead of the United States 2016 presidential election, Trump was faced with a major scandal after Summer Zervos, a "Celebrity Apprentice" alum, and many other women accused him of sexual assault. Shortly after the scandal broke, Bax came out to defend the then-presidential candidate, while also questioning the authenticity of the claims. "When you are trying [to] aim for something as important as presidency every worm or negative thing is going to come out of your closet. Nobody is squeaky clean," Bax said, per NZ Herald. And as for what she thought of his presidential aspiration, Bax simply couldn't have been more supportive of her friend. "It may be scary for people to think of him as being the President, but I think he will do an outstanding job," she told Fairfax Media (via NZ Herald).
Rowanne Brewer Lane said Trump was good to her
Long before he became the owner of the Miss USA pageant, Donald Trump was involved with Rowanne Brewer Lane, an alum of the competition. As reported by The New York Times, Trump first met Brewer Lane at a pool party at Mar-a-Lago and was immediately drawn to her. "There were girls in the pools, splashing around," she recounted. "For some reason, Donald seemed a little smitten with me. He just started talking to me and nobody else." She claimed that the future president then asked her to change into a swimsuit — clearly, he liked what he saw. "He brought me out to the pool and said, 'That is a stunning Trump girl, isn't it?'"
However, the former model has since called the report misleading. During an appearance on Fox News, she claimed, "I didn't feel like it was a demeaning situation or comment at all, and that's what I told the Times, and they spun it completely differently." Further rebutting the angle taken by the publication, Brewer Lane stated that the former reality star never left her feeling degraded or mistreated during their months-long romance. "He was very gracious. I saw him around all types of people, all types of women. He was very kind, thoughtful, generous, you know. He was a gentleman," she added. For his part, Trump also denied the claims made about him by The New York Times.
