Kardashian Rumors That Turned Out To Be True

Keeping up with rumors about the Kardashian-Jenners is an exercise in futility. The reality show stars have maintained their status as main characters of the celebrity gossip mill since the 2007 premiere of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," refusing to cede that coveted headline space and fade into obscurity.

Rumors might give the fam an air of mystique that helps keep them relevant, but as every good momager knows, you can't let every juicy tidbit of gossip fester on the internet forever. Over the years, the Kardashian-Jenners have gone to extremes to debunk some rumors about their family, including the speculation that Kim Kardashian altered her silhouette with the help of a plastic surgeon. In a 2011 episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kim had a good giggle over a fabricated tabloid report claiming that one of her butt implants burst during a flight. This inspired her to prove the story about the explosive fakes on a plane false by getting her backside X-rayed, per Us Weekly.

In a 2012 "KUWTK" episode, Khloé Kardashian refused Kris Jenner's request for her to undergo DNA testing that would disprove rumors that Khloé is not Robert Kardashian's biological daughter. However, Khloé did consent to a 23andMe test in 2018. On the show, she learned that she shares her father and sisters' Middle Eastern heritage, per HollywoodLife. But there are also plenty of Kardashian-Jenner rumors that have turned out to be true, making it difficult for fans to separate reality from fake news.

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom's marriage woes

Khloé Kardashian seemed to have something special with NBA player Lamar Odom. One year after their 2009 nuptials, Khloé wrote on her Celebuzz blog, "I have never been happier, never been so at peace, never been so in love." But in 2012, the tabloid forecast for the couple was cloudy with a chance of dissolution. That March, Star (via X17) claimed that they were faking their happy marriage for the sake of their reality series after Odom got caught cheating on Khloé. Months later, In Touch shared accounts from multiple eyewitnesses who saw Odom with other women, including one who claimed that he brought two women back with him to the Trump SoHo.

In a January 2013 interview with E! News, Khloé denied the rumors that divorce was imminent. A few months later, TMZ shared a video of Odom responding to a paparazzo who asked him about the infidelity rumors. "I would never cheat on my wife," he swore.

Khloé filed for divorce in December 2013, per E!. In a 2014 episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," she revealed that she did, indeed, put on a façade after learning about Odom's infidelity. Speaking of her lonely 2013 birthday, she told Kourtney Kardashian, "I had to lie and say I was with my husband when, in fact, my husband was missing with another girl." Odom also fessed up to being unfaithful in his 2019 autobiography, "Darkness to Light: A Memoir."

Kylie Jenner dating Tyga

In 2011, Tyga made his first appearance on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" when he performed at Kendall Jenner's 16th birthday party, per Us Weekly. He later scored an invite to Kylie Jenner's 17th birthday bash in August 2014, and TMZ shared a video of the rapper urging an underage Kylie to down a tequila shot. The following month, Star claimed that Tyga and Kylie were an item and that their relationship started when Tyga was still engaged to his ex Blac Chyna, who was once BFFs with Kim Kardashian, per Just Jared.

In October 2014, E! News reported that Tyga had been spotted getting cozy during a dinner date and quoted a source who claimed that the couple had been dating for months. However, Kris Jenner attempted to shut down the romance rumors later that month. "Kylie isn't dating anybody," she said in an "On Air with Ryan Seacrest" interview (via 102.7 KIIS FM). She explained the sightings of the two together by saying that they were members of the same friend group.

Tyga denied the rumors himself when he appeared on "The Breakfast Club" in February 2015, saying, "No, I'm not dating Kylie. ... I didn't leave my family to be with Kylie ... that's ridiculous." But the following month, he finally confirmed that they were a couple. "Certain things catch your eye, but only few capture the heart," he captioned a since-deleted Instagram photo of Kylie, per Billboard.

Kylie Jenner's lip injections

When Kylie Jenner's lips started popping, they dominated pop culture discourse and even inspired a dangerous trend. Per Seventeen, some girls were risking potential disfigurement by using suction to plump their pouts in 2015. But the real "Kylie Jenner lip challenge" was getting her to admit that makeup wasn't solely responsible for her mouth's altered appearance.

Jenner's lips were widely discussed on social media, with one fan tweeting, "Kylie Jenner's lips may be fake, but they look good on her." Some tabloids, including Radar and Hollywood Life, consulted plastic surgeons who agreed that she had gotten lip injections. "That is not just lipstick. Her lips look three times as wide as they did in the 'before' picture," one doc told Hollywood Life after analyzing photos of Jenner. In November 2014, the teen told E! that she was tired of the conversation about her kisser, and she shared some of her tricks for making it appear bigger. "My pictures, I pout them out a lot. I think big lips are awesome," she said. "I love lip liner and overlining my lips."

But on "Watch What Happens Live," someone who has experience with fillers, Lisa Rinna, said that she was fairly certain that Jenner had her lips done. As it turns out, she was correct. "I have temporary lip fillers. It's just an insecurity of mine, and it's what I wanted to do," Jenner said in a May 2015 episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's surrogate pregnancy

In June 2017, TMZ reported that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West had agreed to pay a surrogate $45,000 to carry their third child, noting that Kardashian's placenta accreta condition made it potentially deadly for the reality show star to attempt to deliver a baby herself. A month later, Us Weekly claimed that the surrogate was pregnant and due to give birth in early 2018.

But when Kardashian spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the rumored surrogacy in August 2017, she would only say that she and Ye wanted to have another child. "There have been a lot of things said, and Kanye and I have not confirmed anything," she stated. "We're definitely trying. We are hoping so." The following month, TMZ spilled all sorts of information it claimed to have obtained about the rumored surrogate, including her race, marital status, age range, education level, body type, and even her political affiliation — so it's understandable if Kardashian was perhaps trying to protect her privacy.

The surrogate also wasn't mentioned in a September 2017 "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" promo, wherein Kardashian confirmed that she was going to become a third-time mom. But when Kimye's little girl, Chicago West, arrived in January 2018, Kardashian's website announcement read in part, "We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give" (via Page Six). The surrogate, La'Reina, later appeared on "KUWTK," but her face wasn't shown.

Kendall Jenner's nipple piercing

Speculation about the Kardashian-Jenners' body alterations isn't limited to cosmetic procedures. In July 2017, TMZ posted a photo showing the outline of what looked like a nipple ring underneath the semi-sheer black gown that Kendall Jenner wore to the ESPYs that year. The outlet even sought out sources to confirm its suspicions about the metallic glint.

Two months later, Kendall confirmed that she was, indeed, rocking a nipple piercing. "I was going through a period in my life, having a rough time, being a rebel and was like, 'Let's just do it,'" she explained to Page Six. She confessed to questioning her decision when she was bracing for the body jewelry to be stabbed through such a sensitive spot, but recalled, "Honestly, it hurt, but wasn't as bad as everyone made it seem."

Kylie Jenner had previously gotten her nipple pierced, but on her app, Kendall shut down speculation that she was copying her younger sibling, who was partially responsible for Kendall's apprehension over how painful the piercing would be. "I wanted to get the piercing for SO long before Kylie," she wrote (via People). "I swear I had the idea first." She also revealed that her fans and family members alike seemed stunned by the move, and her momager had some thoughts about it. "No, it's not [like] Kendall! That's why it was so surprising," Kris Jenner said on "The Kyle & Jackie O Show" (via Harper's Bazaar). "I thought, 'This is not real.'"

Kylie Jenner's first pregnancy

In April 2017, People reported that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott had been spotted together at Coachella. Although their romance seemed relatively new, it didn't take long for pregnancy rumors to proliferate, with OK! (via Life & Style) reporting that Jenner was four months along that August. "We all think she's staying out of the spotlight until she's ready to share her news," said one source. The following month, TMZ and People reported that the couple was telling everyone close to them that they were, indeed, expecting.

Both reports also said that Jenner and Scott already knew that they were having a girl. "It is an unexpected but completely amazing turn of events that [Jenner] could not be more excited or thrilled about," one insider spilled to People. The source claimed that Jenner was so desperate to keep her pregnancy a secret that she was posting older, baby-bump-free pics on Instagram to stave off any speculation about the status of her womb.

Jenner finally confirmed her pregnancy in February 2018 — after she gave birth. "I'm sorry for keeping you in the dark through all the assumptions," she wrote on Instagram. "I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion, so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness." She also thanked her loved ones for helping her keep her pregnancy under wraps, although it's obvious that someone spilled the beans to the media.

The Jordyn Woods and Tristan Thompson cheating scandal

In February 2019, Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee broke a big story on his gossip site's Instagram account. According to Lee, one of his contributors claimed that they saw Kylie Jenner's close friend, Jordyn Woods, canoodling with Khloé Kardashian's beau, Tristan Thompson, while sitting in his lap. The purported incident took place during a party at Thompson's home, where Lee said Woods stayed until 7 in the morning the following day. Kardashian seemed to confirm that there might be something to the story by reacting to it with a series of shouting emojis.

In its report about the rumor, TMZ added the detail of Woods and Thompson sharing a kiss. Thompson seemingly responded to the claims by tweeting, "FAKE NEWS," per E! News, but later deleted the denial.

In an appearance on "Red Table Talk," Woods disputed the claims that she and Thompson were all over each other and full-on making out, but she confirmed that she attended the aforementioned house party. According to her version of events, she sat next to Thompson with her legs underneath his, not in his lap, and he surprised her with a chaste, tongue-free kiss as she was walking out the door at sunup. But in an episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," Kardashian revealed that Thompson's account of the night matched some of the original reports. "They were all over each other, they were handsy, they made out," she recalled him telling her, per E!.

Kourtney Kardashian dating Travis Barker

In the years leading up to their relationship confirmation, Kourtney Kardashian and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker sparked romance rumors on more than one occasion. In March 2018, a source told Radar that Barker was interested in dating his longtime neighbor. "He's always had a bit of a thing for her," the insider said, adding that Barker dreamed of dining with Kardashian at his Crossroads Kitchen vegan restaurant. Later that year, E! News reported that the pair were spotted exiting the eatery.

But in March 2019, Barker told People that his relationship with Kourtney was purely platonic. He was possibly telling the truth at the time, but when Kardashian shared a screenshot from the movie "True Romance" on Instagram in January 2021, she and Barker revved up the romance rumors again. In his memoir, "Can I Say: Living Large, Cheating Death, and Drums, Drums, Drums," Barker reveals that he adores "True Romance" so much that he named one of his daughters, Alabama, after a character in it. So he couldn't resist responding to Kardashian's post with a quote from the film: "You're So Cool." The interaction had Kardashian's followers wondering if something might be brewing between the two. Days later, The U.S. Sun got the inside scoop from a pal who dished, "They talk almost every day, and everyone around them is desperate for them to get together." A month later, Kardashian confirmed Kravis' "true romance" with an Instagram pic of the pair holding hands.

Khloe Kardashian's nose job

Khloé Kardashian's fans know that she has access to a loaded bank account and the best plastic surgeons that money can buy, so she's been dogged by speculation over whether she's had any work done. Some of her followers thought that changes to her appearance were obvious in a November 2020 Twitter video. "Why does she look so different here? Nose job? Her chin? Oh no, Khloe was always the most incredible looking," one fan tweeted. "It looks like her nose is disappearing," another person wrote.

In a July 2019 Vogue video, Kardashian demonstrated how she uses contouring to alter her nose's appearance. While the trick can be extremely effective, she confessed that her makeup artistry sometimes makes the centerpiece of her face look a bit strange on camera. One plastic surgeon, however, wasn't convinced that Kardashian was solely relying on cosmetics to reshape her nose. "The amount of decrease in width of the tip suggests to me a rhinoplasty procedure," Dr. Hootan Zandifar told Insider in November 2020.

Kardashian came clean during the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" reunion special in June 2021. "I've had one nose job, Dr. Raj Kanodia, and everyone gets so upset. Like, why don't I talk about it?" she said. "No one's ever asked me." On Twitter, she revealed that she had the procedure done not long before her daughter, True Thompson, turned 1, which was in April 2019. "My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner," she tweeted.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's divorce

In July 2020, sources told Us Weekly that Kim Kardashian was consulting with divorce attorneys after Kanye West raged against her and her family during one of his Twitter tirades. Per TMZ, Ye equated Kris Jenner to North Korea's authoritarian leader by referring to her as "Kris Jong-Un." He also claimed that he was already considering divorcing Kardashian, insinuating that she wasn't just meeting up with Meek Mill to discuss prison reform in 2018. In a post on her Instagram Story, Kardashian reminded her fans that Ye has bipolar disorder, writing, "Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words sometimes do not align with his intentions" (via Fox News).

The following January, Page Six reported that Kardashian was ready to pull the plug on her seven-year marriage. An insider told the outlet, "Kim has hired Laura Wasser, and they are in settlement talks." Meanwhile, Us Weekly claimed that Kimye was no longer cohabitating. "Kanye isn't as focused and doesn't live in the real world. Their world views no longer line up," a source said of why Kardashian wanted to move on. Some of Kardashian's friends were reportedly amazed that she stuck it out for so long.

In February 2021, a rep for Kardashian finally confirmed that the divorce rumors were true, per The New York Times. Speaking to Vogue about the split, Kardashian said, "I've chosen myself. I think it's okay to choose you."

Kim Kardashian dating Pete Davidson

After Kim Kardashian and "Saturday Night Live" lothario Pete Davidson were spotted celebrating the spooky season together at Knott's Scary Farm in October 2021, a source told People that they were just pals who run with the same crowd — even though they were photographed tightly gripping each other's hands on a ride. The following month, Page Six reported that there was a little more to the story. "She is intrigued. She likes him," a source told the outlet. Kardashian proved this particular rumor right by spending more time with Davidson in a more intimate setting. Per E! News, she had dinner with him at the Staten Island restaurant Campania. "Whatever is going on between them is exciting to her," said another insider.

E! reported that Kardashian and Davidson decided to make their relationship exclusive in mid-November 2021, with its source dishing, "She's trying to not make a big deal about it but is super into him." The couple was photographed embracing during a January 2022 outing in Los Angeles, per TMZ, but Davidson didn't refer to Kardashian as his girlfriend until the following month. "I just either hang with my friends or chill with my girlfriend inside," he told People of how he likes to spend his downtime.

But no Kim K relationship is official until she confirms it on Instagram, which is what finally happened in March 2022. On "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Kardashian also revealed that Davidson was already rocking body art inspired by her.

The Disneyland photo conspiracy

In December 2021, Kim Kardashian shared two photos on Instagram that appeared to show her daughter, Chicago West, having a blast with Khloé Kardashian's little girl, True Thompson, at Disneyland. But a TikToker noticed that the pics of the smiling cousins didn't look quite right. "True just looks obviously Photoshopped," said @maiachondrialmembrane in a viral video. "She's Photoshopped onto a photo of Stormi from October."

Khloé accidentally confirmed that the TikToker's claim was not just a conspiracy theory in April 2022 when she posted a video of True at Disneyland on her Instagram Story. Khloé said that it was True's first-ever visit to the theme park, and a Twitter user called her out for slipping up and revealing the truth. "Welllppp I f***ed this one up. Anyways ... let's focus on something else," Khloé tweeted.

Kim took responsibility for creating the fake vacay photo to scratch her itch for social media homogeneity. On her Instagram Story, she explained that Kylie Jenner didn't want any new photos of her daughter, Stormi Webster, posted on social media at the time, but Kim desperately wanted those Disneyland pics on her grid because Chicago was wearing a pink outfit. "You know I am all about my aesthetic! And my IG grid is pink and blue lately," she wrote. "You know how much a good aesthetic means to my soul. And I will be damned if Kylie will ruin that for me and mess up my IG grid."

Kim Kardashian's Marilyn Monroe moment at the Met Gala

In April 2022, the Daily Mail published photos of Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson outside Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Orlando, and some Redditors believed that the couple wasn't just there to check out the museum's curiosities — they guessed that Kardashian was shopping for a Met Gala dress. It was pointed out that one of the exhibits there was the glittering gown Marilyn Monroe wore when she famously serenaded John F. Kennedy Jr. with a sultry rendition of "Happy Birthday." One Redditor predicted, "If [Kardashian] ends up wearing it, it'll be possibly her biggest scandal of all time." It was also noted that Kardashian previously told Access that no alterations could be made to the garment she wanted to wear.

The Redditors were right. On "The Kardashians" (via E! News), viewers later saw Kim K struggling to squeeze into Monroe's iconic dress for her final fitting. Chris Appleton, Kardashian's hairstylist, came to the rescue in her time of need. "He lifted up my butt in my Skims, repositioned my shapewear, and then it went up," Kardashian recalled. However, the back wouldn't zip all the way up, so she had to cover the gap with a fur coat.

The man who sketched the gown, Bob Mackie, was among those who thought Kardashian didn't exactly honor her idol's memory by borrowing the famous frock. "It was designed for [Monroe]," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Nobody else should be seen in that dress."
