The Lindsay Lohan Comments That Megan Fox Had To Apologize For

Megan Fox is a pretty controversial celeb. These days, Fox's relationship with Machine Gun Kelly often inspires headlines due to their insistence on wearing vials of each other's blood and getting disturbing matching tats (via Elle UK) — you know, totally normal couple things. Before that, Fox's long-running feud with "Transformers" director Michael Bay, which kicked off after she likened Bay to Napoleon and Hitler, per Wonderland Magazine, was the talk of the town. Unfortunately for Fox, three anonymous workers wrote a public letter denying Fox's claims and pinning her as the villain, according to Deadline. 

Fox has also come under fire for her political views, most notably the time she called Donald Trump a "legend" (although she's since denounced being a Trump supporter, per People). And while Fox's resume — which includes starring roles in "Transformers," "New Girl," and "Jennifer's Body," per IMDb — speaks for itself, her personal drama often overshadows her professional wins. Take, for example, the time that she made a pretty disparaging comment about Lindsay Lohan that landed her in hot water.

Lindsay Lohan may be having one heck of a Hollywood comeback, but it's hard to forget her difficult transition from beloved child star to young socialite. Back in 2013, when Lohan was in the thick of her public struggles, Megan Fox explained why she had her Marilyn Monroe tattooed removed and inadvertently dragged Lohan in the process. "I started reading about [Monroe] and realized that her life was incredibly difficult," said Fox during an interview with Esquire. "It's like when you visualize something for your future. I didn't want to visualize something so negative." Fox continued, "She wasn't powerful at the time. She was sort of like Lindsay [Lohan]. She was an actress who wasn't reliable, who almost wasn't insurable. She had all the potential in the world, and it was squandered."

Shortly after Fox's comments made rounds, she took to Facebook to further explain her comparison, claiming that while Monroe is considered an icon today, she was not respected as one as her life went on (via Us Weekly). The same, to Fox, could be said of Lohan. "Both women were gifted actresses, whose natural talent was lost amongst the chaos and incessant media scrutiny surrounding their lifestyles and their difficulties adhering to studio schedules," Fox said at the time. The actor added, "It was most definitely not my intention to criticize or degrade Lindsay."

While it's great that Megan Fox was able to clarify her comments about Lindsay Lohan, her statement comes off a bit differently when you remember their professional rivalry. Shortly before Fox's Esquire interview, both actors were gunning for the role of Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime's "Liz and Dick," per Fox News. Ultimately, Fox lost the role to Lohan. However, that may have been for the best, since Liz and Dick" was poorly received by film critics (via The Week). 

Years prior, Fox and Lohan teamed up for 2004's "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen." However, they didn't exactly hit it off. "From what I've experienced, women aren't good friends to one another," shared Fox during an interview with Maxim. "I didn't get along with Lindsay Lohan on "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen," but you have to consider that we were 16-year-old girls." Fox added, "I haven't seen Lindsay since then, but I imagine she's grown and become a different person. I know I have." 

Lohan, for her part, hasn't ever publicly spoken about any issues with Fox. However, she did once complain about Fox getting a bit of special treatment on set to Cosmopolitan. "I remember Megan Fox got spray tanned and I wasn't allowed to get spray tanned and I was really upset about that," Lohan shared about her experience working on "Confessions."
