Who Is Tell Me Lies Star Jackson White's Famous Family?
Fans can't seem to get enough of Jackson White, the breakout star from Hulu's "Tell Me Lies," and for good reason. While he has taken over our screens, many may not know the fan-favorite actor almost had an entirely different career trajectory as a musician.
"I grew up going back and forth between L.A. and Nashville where my dad lived in this house with a recording studio, three sets of drums, some old B3 organs, keyboards, and guitars. You'd wake up to blasting music. And that was the lifestyle that I fell in love with," he told Esquire in September 2022. However, as he got older, Jackson realized that he "needed more of a structure and a discipline," and life as a musician wasn't necessarily his "path." Shortly after, the "Ambulance" alum made his way into acting.
Since making the career change, he has graced the screen in a range of roles such as "The Middle," "SEAL Team," and of course "Mrs. Fletcher," whom he stars alongside Kathryn Hahn. However, his claim to fame may be his streaming venture, "Tell Me Lies." The Hulu original follows the lives of two individuals — Lucy Albright (played by Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (played by White), who met in college, per Hulu. The rollercoaster relationship drew in a fanbase like no other due to the charismatic traits of White's character, which is only right as he comes from a talented family that has lived a life in the spotlight.
Award-winning actor Katey Sagal is his mother
For some, stardom may be inherited — just ask Jackson White. The star, who is now known as having the "it" factor, is the son of Golden Globes winner Katey Sagal. Known for her roles in "Married with Children, "Sons of Anarchy," "Shameless," and "The Conners," Sagal knows what it takes as she has been in the industry since the 1970s, per IMDb.
Though Sagal has had great success throughout her career, she wasn't always fully supportive of her son's decision to pursue acting. In fact, the decision was quite the opposite and her motherly advice was short and to the point."Don't do it. Do something else," which Jackson shared with People in September. He later added, that Sagal encouraged him to "grow up first," as he "wasn't allowed" to act until the age of 18. Although she wasn't fully on board initially, she now provides feedback to help Jackson along the way and she couldn't be more proud.
"Being a mother has been my greatest teacher and also the most self-sacrificing thing I've ever done. I've never loved anybody the way I love my children," Sagal revealed to People in August 2009. "It's deeper, and it's a fantastic — and risky — commitment to love that deeply." Safe to say that his upbringing played a part in his career choices later in life, which have paid off with White's burgeoning career.
Jackson White's sister and father inspired his love for music
Jackson White's acting isn't the only skill inherited. He has a love for music, which we can assume is due to his father, Jack White, who is a well-known drummer and has over four decades of work behind him. According to Esquire, Jack initially gained recognition for collaborating with well-known artists including Ike and Tina Turner, Sam the Sham, and more. Though not much is known about his father since he takes a reserved approach, we can assume that his father impacted his love for music. When it's all said and done, having a life in entertainment was destiny, as his step-father, "Sons of Anarchy creator" Kurt Sutter, and his sister are also in the limelight.
"I was always the musician and my sister [Sarah Grace White] was the actor because Mom's the actor, Dad's the drummer. But my mom was a musician long before she was an actor," Jackson told the outlet in September 2022. "It was a really musical house." The multi-faceted family toggles between acting and showcasing their musical talents. According to Katey Sagal's official Facebook, Sarah has lent her voice as part of an acapella group named "The Owl Creeks."
Although the family primarily leads a private life, it's without question that they have similar traits and are supportive of each other in their endeavors. With a family as successful as Jackson White's, we're sure his rumored love interest, Grace Van Patten, will fit in.
