Kim Kardashian Worked A Totally Normal Job Before She Got Famous

It's undeniable that Kim Kardashian has made a name for herself. It all started in 2007 when she and her family starred in the hit reality series, "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." With the help of social media and the show, Kardashian built an empire.

The mogul has created several successful businesses. In 2017, she launched the KKW fragrance, per Seventeen. Two years later, Kardashian launched her shapewear brand Skims. People couldn't get enough, so she and her team had the brilliant idea to broaden their clothing into comfort wear. According to Glamour, the massively successful brand was valued at $3.2 billion in 2022. Kardashian didn't stop there — with the heightened interest in skincare products, the influencer released her own line of products called SKKN in 2022, per Elle.

Kardashian has been vocal about having to work hard to achieve her accomplishments. Although many have said she and her family have become famous for nothing, she's not listening to the critics. She told Variety, "We work our a**** off. If that's what you think, then sorry. We just don't have the energy for that. We don't have to sing or dance or act; we get to live our lives — and hey, we made it. I don't know what to tell you." Kardashian's right, she had to start from somewhere, and her first job wasn't far off from what she is doing now.

Kim Kardashian worked in retail

Besides starring on a successful reality show, Kim Kardashian has one of the biggest clothing store brands. In fact, the mogul has always been interested in clothes.

Kardashian's first job was in retail. She told Variety, "I worked at a clothing store for four years. I loved it." Showbiz Cheat Sheet reported the store was called Body and had stylish clothing that Kardashian couldn't keep her hands off. The SKIMS founder said, "It was right in Encino, and I used to spend every paycheck there if I didn't have to take care of things. I loved it. I worked there for four years and helped them open up a store in Calabasas." Kardashian would have liked for every paycheck to go back into the store, but that wasn't always the case.

The "Keeping up with the Kardashians" star shared with Variety, "When I turned 16, my dad made me sign a contract — he made us sign contracts for everything — that if I hit my car, I would be responsible for paying for it. I was in bumper-to-bumper traffic, and I tapped someone." Well, the day came when the star got in a minor accident. Because her dad, Robert Kardashian, was affiliated with the O.J. Simpson trial, the victim in the accident wanted a big payout. She said, "They sued me for a lot of money. After I paid them back, I kept on working to buy myself some clothes." Luckily for Kim, she truly enjoyed her job.

Kim Kardashian organized Paris Hilton's closet

It's hard to imagine Kim Kardashian working for someone famous, but it's true! The KKW creator once worked for the 2000s icon Paris Hilton. In 2017, Kardashian shared on "Watch What Happens Live" with Andy Cohen, "I would work with Paris, and I would love to organize and clean out [her] closets and get rid of all [her] stuff and sell it on eBay and then shop for them, shop for her. That was my job. I loved it." The reality star also wanted to confirm that she was never Hilton's "assistant" but simply enjoyed organizing her closet. During this time, paparazzi and fans were focused on getting Hilton's attention rather than Kardashian's. However, the mogul realizes how important Hilton was to kick-starting her own career.

Kardashian told Rolling Stone in 2015, "We'd go anywhere and everywhere just to be seen. We knew exactly where to go, where to be seen, how to have something written about you. All you had to do is go to this restaurant, or this party, talk about whatever you want to talk about, and it would be in the paper the next day." Kardashian loved the attention from fame and began to experience it herself when her family began "Keeping up with the Kardashians" just a year after her hangouts with Hilton in 2006. Using her resources from the fame she got from the show, Kardashian slowly built an untouchable business empire.
