Here's How Old Kim Kardashian Was When She Married Her First Husband

It's hard to remember a time when Kim Kardashian's life wasn't so deeply entwined with ex Kanye "Ye" West. However, the most famous Kardashian had a whole life before she married and created a family with the controversial rapper and fashion designer. If you're counting Kardashian's multiple marriages, then she actually had several lives. Before West, Kardashian married Kris Humphries — arguably her second most famous relationship. 

If you recall, Kardashian famously married the New Jersey Nets player in 2011 after enjoying a whirlwind romance, which played out on "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" and its various spin-offs.  However, things immediately fell apart, leading Kardashian to file for divorce after only 72 days, per TMZ. What followed was Kardashian and Humphries extremely messy divorce, which overlapped with her burgeoning relationship with West, and dragged on for two years. But even that marriage wasn't her first. 

Kardashian's first marriage was to Damon Thomas, a well-known record producer. Given Kardashian's age at the time, it's no wonder this relationship didn't pan out on her reality shows, which wouldn't come until years later. However, the former couple has shared many details about their relationship over the years. 

Kim Kardashian first crossed paths with Damon Thomas during a visit to Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch in 1999. The next year, the pair got married. Kardashian was 19 years old, while Thomas was 28. However, her wedding to Thomas was nothing like the lavish affairs she'd later enjoy with Humphries and West.  According to Kardashian, she and Thomas eloped while in Las Vegas after he suggested they get married, per Harper's Bazaar. However, it's clear Kardashian regrets the rash decision. "I used to be so dependent on the guys I was in a relationship with," said Kardashian. "I don't know why, because I wasn't raised that way. If I looked at myself at 19, I would shake myself and be like, wake up; you are way too smart for this."

According to The Sun, Kardashian and Thomas's marriage lasted until 2004 when Kardashian filed for divorce. The couple's divorce court papers, unearthed by the Daily Mail, allege that Thomas was abusive to Kardashian during their relationship. "Thomas would punch her in the face, slam her against walls and throw her across the room, leaving her bruised and battered," read the documents (via Mirror UK). The same report alleges that Damon also showed inappropriate photos of one of Kardashian's unnamed sisters to their late father, Robert Kardashian Sr. 

In 2018, Kim Kardashian claimed during Season 20 of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" that she was under the influence of drugs when she decided to marry Damon Thomas. "I got married on ecstasy. The first time," Kardashian revealed during the episode (via Access Hollywood). "I did ecstasy once and I got married. I did it again, I made a sex tape. Like, everything bad would happen." However, Kardashian's first husband remembers things differently.  "I think it's unfair to make those kinds of blanket statements because we have kids now, you know?" Damon shared during an interview with Vlad TV. "I have children. My kid goes to the same school her kid goes to. So imagine him when he has to deal with that at school. I think she should be more responsible about those statements."

Thomas also claimed that he could "blow up the spot" about what went on during their marriage. However, he says he would never be revealing the secrets of their relationship. "Because it happened in the past, you can try to sweep it under the rug," continued Thomas. "But you don't stay married to somebody, or be with somebody for four to five years, and it's just based off of you getting high of ecstasy ... so I think that's a very irresponsible thing to say, given our children go to the same school."
