Why Candace Cameron Bure And Raven-Symoné Don't Get Along

If there's one thing most celebrities aren't afraid of, it's a feud. From Kanye West and Taylor Swift to Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, celebrity feuds are certainly nothing new. An even more specific group of stars who are seriously prone to a feud? Those outspoken ladies over at "The View." It seems like we're hearing about a new drama coming out of the long-running ABC daytime show every week, with the likes of Jenny McCarthy, Meghan McCain, and Rosie O'Donnell all lifting the lid at one time or another about what their time on the show was really like. In the explosive 2019 book, "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View," McCarthy even likened the talk show to CBS's "Survivor," stating, "There were allies, and there weren't many people to choose from." Yikes.

And it seems like that's a notion seconded by more than one former co-star, as McCarthy certainly wasn't the only one to fall out with one of their co-stars on the panel over vastly differing views. Case and point? Candace Cameron Bure and Raven-Symone.

Candace Cameron Bure didn't agree with Raven-Symone's stance on an LGBTQ+ wedding cake

Candace Cameron Bure and Raven-Symone famously butted heads on "The View" when both served as co-hosts, with one of their most notorious disagreements coming when they discussed a bakery that refused to create a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. This drama went down in July 2015 when Candace defended their decision not to serve the customers. "I don't think this is discrimination at all. This is about freedom of association. It's about constitutional rights. It's about First Amendment rights. We do have the right to still choose who we associate with," she noted, but that was totally not so Raven. "To me, it's the same exact thing that they did back in the day saying that Black people couldn't do certain things because it's my 'religious belief,'" Symone said. Things then got extra heated when Symone clapped back at Candace, "I refuse to associate with you right now." Shade!

Of course, it's no secret that the two have differing views and differing lifestyle choices. Former "Fuller House" star Candace has been married to her husband, Valeri Bure, since 1996, while Symone secretly married her wife, Miranda Pearman-Maday, in 2020. Symone has been open in her support for LGBTQ+ rights, though Candace saw some backlash for her stance on if LGBTQ+ couples should be featured in Great American Country's Christmas movies after suggesting only straight love stories will be told.

Candace Cameron Bure was proud of her discussion with Raven-Symoné

Candace Cameron Bure was happy with the way things went down with Raven-Symone on "The View," telling "Huff Post Live" the following month that she had no regrets about the heated exchange. "I was pleased with how I handled myself," she shared (via The Wrap), admitting she got a lot of positive and negative responses. "I don't know that I would make the same decisions that the bakers made, as a Christian, but I will always fight for the freedom," she added.

But while Candace was happy with her composure, both she and Symone have admitted they didn't expect to have to get so political during their time on "The View," claiming they were offered the job under the pretence the content would be a lot lighter. "I feel like I just got catfished. I thought I was going on a show, like Candace, where it was pop culture and fun and exciting... and I learned a good lesson," Symone said during a joint October 2021 interview with Candace on "The View: Behind the Table." "I was pitched a completely different direction," Candace noted, claiming she explained to the team before she took the gig that she didn't want to get political. She also said she wanted to say her peace, hear someone else's opinion and leave things be, but claimed she was encouraged by producers to continue to challenge other's views. "I didn't like that," she said.
