How Harry Styles Spends His Money
Harry Styles is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the world, so it should come as no surprise that the Redditch, England native has a lot of money in the bank. The singer-songwriter has come a long way from his humble 2010 start on the "The X Factor." Of course, most fans know that before Styles became a solo superstar, he was part of the popular boy band One Direction, prior to the group breaking up in 2016.
Since then, Styles has released three studio albums, embarked on two solo world tours, and transitioned into acting with films like 2022's "Don't Worry Darling." When it came to his rise to the top, his former bandmate, Louis Tomlinson, told The Telegraph in November 2022, "Harry's the most commercially successful because he really fits the mold of a modern star," adding, "He's not just doing music, he's got film as well, and the (stadium) tour he's done is unbelievable."
Yet Styles is apparently just happy making a living doing what he loves. He previously explained to Better Homes & Gardens, "I didn't grow up in poverty by any means, but we didn't have much money, and I had an expectation of what I could achieve in life. I feel like everything else has been a bonus, and I am so lucky." Harry Styles is definitely lucky enough to buy pretty much whatever he wants these days, but what does he actually spend his money on? Let's break it down.
Harry Styles has been purchasing real estate for years
Harry Styles has been dropping millions of dollars on real estate for about a decade. According to Architectural Digest, his first home purchase was back in 2012 when he paid $4.8 million for a 2,300-square-foot house in a London suburb. Styles not only still owns it to this day, but in 2019 bought the neighboring property for $10.9 million. He then scooped up the house next to that one in 2020 for $5.5 million. Hello! reported those two homes were once one big mansion, so it can be presumed that Styles plans to reconnect them to create his own massive compound.
Of course, Styles has picked up some property in the U.S., as well, beginning in 2014 when he bought a Beverly Hills mansion for $4 million. By 2016, he upgraded to a bigger home on the Sunset Strip, for which he paid $6.9 million. However, he put that on the market a year later to move to New York City. There, he picked up a $8.7 million Tribeca penthouse in a complex known for keeping its celebrity residents private. Styles still rents, too, and was reportedly dropping $10,000 a month to live with his former girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, when in Los Angeles, per a 2021 report from the New York Post.
Despite all these homes at his disposal, Styles told Better Homes & Gardens in April 2022, "I realized that that home feeling isn't something that you get from a house; it's more of an internal thing. You realize that when you stop for a minute."
The former One Directioner drives luxury cars
In addition to building his impressive real estate portfolio, Harry Styles has also been seen driving some pretty lavish cars over the years — like the $300,000 Ferrari California. The Daily Mail reported that Styles had first rented the sports car for a 2012 stay in Los Angeles. Yet, according to Hot Cars, he's been spotted driving that car around both LA and London since then, so it might be assumed he liked it enough to buy one of his own.
Of course, that's just one of Styles' many high-end cars in his garage, since he reportedly also owns an Audi R8 Coupe, a Range Rover Sport, and a Tesla Model X. That's not even counting his classic car collection, which consists of a Jaguar E-Type Roadster, a Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, a classic Mercedes-Benz 230SL, and a 1970s Ford Capri. Shortly after the news broke that he and Olivia Wilde were on a break from their two-year romance in November 2022, Styles was also seen shopping for a Ferrari 812 Superfast in Beverly Hills.
While all of Styles' vehicles probably cost him a pretty penny, it doesn't mean they don't have problems like average cars do. In fact, one of them even broke down in front of a fan's house in 2020, per People. That fan unfortunately wasn't home at the time, but Styles left her a note while waiting for repairs: "Theadora, my car broke down on your street and your dad's friend kindly let me wait at your house with a cup of tea."
Harry Styles loves collecting art
Harry Styles apparently collects more than just classic cars, considering the "Adore You" hitmaker also spends a good portion of his funds on artwork. One of his more notable art purchases appears to have been in 2014, when E! News reported that he spent $33,000 on 20 typewriter-themed pieces by controversial U.K. artist Hayden Kays. A source explained of the artwork, "They are social commentary and involve mind games. They have a theme of love and sex. ... Harry and Hayden have a creative understanding and admire each other's creativity."
By that next year, Styles' art collection had grown, with the Daily Star valuing it at more than $240,000 (via AZCentral). The "Dunkirk" actor was reported to not only have paintings and gun sculptures, but also a $16,000 lamp created by artists Joe Armitage and Thomas Campbell, as well as jewelry designer Dominic Jones. If that's not enough, Styles had allegedly wanted murals to be painted inside of his home, too, by famous street artists Bambi or Banksy. "An entire wall painted by Bambi would run into a five-figure sum, but that wouldn't faze Harry — and he knows how precious art is as an investment," an insider dished.
When Styles isn't trying to purchase art, he still spends his money and time appreciating it, like when he visited the Royal Academy of Arts in London with then-girlfriend Olivia Wilde for his 28th birthday in February 2022. A witness told the Daily Mail, "Harry and Olivia looked like they were having lots of fun as they browsed the gallery."
The As It Was singer vacations with other celebrities
Harry Styles clearly works hard, so it makes sense he'd want to play hard, too, by going on lavish vacations with other rich celebrities during his time off. The "Music for a Sushi Restaurant" singer has been doing that since at least 2016, when he joined Kendall Jenner, Ellen DeGeneres, and Portia De Rossi aboard a luxury yacht in St. Barts. The trip was so glamorous that even Jenner's sister, Khloé Kardashian, joked to E! News, "If I'm on a yacht in St. Barts if I'm — how old is she, 20? He's 20? — hey, I ain't mad at you, Kenny."
Styles apparently enjoys the island vibe — in 2020, he went to Anguilla, but that time with pals like Adele and James Corden. While we're sure they all spent a lot on their accommodations, Styles took it a step further with his gratuity. According to People, after paying a $472.50 bill at a local restaurant, Styles left a super generous $2,020 tip.
By 2021, Styles began traveling with his then-girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, and the splurging apparently continued. Per Page Six, the two stayed at the five-star boutique hotel Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole in Tuscany, Italy, which costs roughly $3,500 per night. They must have enjoyed it, too, because they were back in the country the next year for another vacation. A source explained to Us Weekly in May 2022, "Olivia and Harry love going to Italy together. ... They both love the food, the people, the architecture, everything."
Harry Styles splurges on fashion
It's pretty obvious that Harry Styles has no problem splurging on fashion, considering that his wardrobe has basically made him a fashion icon. Since his rise in the industry, the "My Policeman" actor has been seen in an array of high-end designers, whether it's St. Laurent, a JW Anderson jumpsuit, or Marc Jacobs womenswear. However, Styles' favorite luxury brand is definitely Gucci, for which he is an ambassador. The star's not only exclusively worn custom outfits created by the Italian fashion house for his 2021-2023 worldwide "Love On Tour," but has also modeled their clothes for campaigns, as well as on the cover of Vogue as the magazine's first solo male cover star.
The former One Directioner's style is so iconic that a blue Gucci suit he wore in 2019 was even showcased in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Perhaps that's why he was tapped by Gucci to design a collection called HA HA HA alongside then-creative director Alessandro Michele in November 2022. Styles gushed, per GQ, "I'm always inspired watching him work, so doing this collaboration with my friend was very special to me."
It seems that clothes in general are special to Styles, which is probably why he enjoys spending money on them. He explained to Vogue, "I think if you get something that you feel amazing in, it's like a superhero outfit. Clothes are there to have fun with and experiment with and play with." Styles doesn't mind standing out in those lavish pieces either, dishing, "You can never be overdressed. There's no such thing."
The Don't Worry Darling star gives back to charity
Harry Styles doesn't just spend his millions on himself, he also gives back — and in a big way. In 2022, for example, the "As It Was" singer partnered with the anti-gun violence nonprofit Everytown, donating $1 million from the proceeds of the second North American leg of his "Love On Tour." He wrote in an Instagram post that May, "Along with all of you, I have been absolutely devastated by the recent string of mass shootings in America." That wasn't all though: The previous year, per Variety, Styles donated another $1 million total to organizations like Black Voters Matter, Physicians for Reproductive Health, and Choose Love, as well as local foundations that helped food insecure families. He also worked with the environmental nonprofit REVERB.org to keep his production eco-friendly.
But that wasn't the only time Styles used his tour funds for the greater good. He previously gave $1.2 million from his first solo world tour to 62 charities in 2018, while registering hundreds of voters with the nonprofit Headcount and promoting water conservation. Billboard reported that he additionally sold pride-themed t-shirts for the GLSEN Pride campaign that spread his message to "Treat People with Kindness."
It's also worth mentioning that Styles even did his part fighting the COVID-19 pandemic by selling t-shirts that promoted staying safe at home, per the Independent. He contributed 100% of those profits to the World Health Organization's Solidarity Response Fund. "In times like these," Styles explained, "it is more important than ever to remember the power of people."
Harry Styles spends a lot on security
Harry Styles' fame may give him the ability to buy lavish things, but it has also unfortunately made him a target, which is why the "Golden" singer understandably spends a good amount on security. Hinton Magazine reported that, as of 2022, Styles' annual protection costs were around $1 million. In addition to dealing with a scary stalker situation, we imagine he was also motivated to invest more into his security after being robbed by a group of men at knifepoint in February 2020. "They all kind of gathered around me," Styles recalled to Howard Stern. "... I pull out some cash, and he takes it from me." The men were about to take his phone, as well, until Styles made a run for it after seeing two cars pass by.
Styles reportedly went on to hire Mick Jagger's bodyguard, with an insider dishing to The Sun (via the Daily Mail), "Like Mick, he has to take security very seriously. ... It makes sense that he would look to him to inspire his choice of staff." Yet, that wasn't the first time Styles felt the need to step up his security. Per the Mirror, he did so on the set of "Dunkirk," with a source explaining, "He's the only person who has a security guard at his side round the clock, but his minder follows him home too."
All in all, though, it appears that Harry Styles spends his hard-earned money wisely, investing in his safety and in the greater good, all while still having some fun with it!
