Mel C Says Spice Girls Haven't Been Invited To Perform At Royal Wedding
The "Wannabe" singers may not be heading to the royal wedding after all.
While attending The Prince's Trust Awards in London on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, Mel C (real name Melanie Jayne Chisholm) addressed recent rumors that the Spice Girls had been invited to attend and perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's upcoming nuptials.
"Oh yes there's been quite a lot of press interest there, my invite hasn't turned up yet. It was all that snow. I think the mail's been a bit held up in the snow," the singer, previously known as Sporty Spice, quipped to E! News at the event. "I think [Mel B] was joking. I think the media ran with it a little bit."
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Mel B recently hinted that the '90s girl group might be providing the entertainment at the royal wedding this spring during an appearance on The Real. Telling her co-hosts that she's "going" to the ceremony, the former pop star admitted, "I don't know if I should have said that live on camera."
Mel B then alluded that all five Spice Girls had received "proper" invitations, adding, "Why am I so honest? ...I'm not saying any more!" However, when asked if the "2 Become 1" singers would also be performing at the reception, she simply threw her cards in the air and joked, "I'm going to be fired!" as the audience cheered.
Either way, it sounds like we may have to wait a while to spice up our lives. While the Spice Girls recently sparked rumors of a formal reunion, Mel C echoed Victoria Beckham's previous statements on the unlikelihood of the pop culture icons hitting the stage together in 2018. As she recently told The Sun, "I don't think you'll be seeing the Spice Girls on stage this year ... We're all just dead busy. So if anything were to happen, it wouldn't be now."
Harry, 33, and Markle, 36, announced their engagement in late November 2017. The cute pair have been together since the fall of 2016, and plan to marry at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle on May 19.
