The news of Anthony Bourdain's death by suicide sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood and around the globe. Per Reuters, the celebrity chef was found in his hotel room while in France working on an episode of his CNN program "Parts Unknown" in 2018. The loss left millions of people in mourning, including his family, friends, and girlfriend at the time, Italian actor Asia Argento. In her tribute to the late chef, Argento remembered Bourdain as "my love, my rock, my protector." "Anthony gave all of himself in everything that he did. His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bound," she said, via Vanity Fair.
Per the magazine, Bourdain and Argento started dating in 2016 shortly after they met in Rome for the filming of "Parts Unknown." They were together until his death, and Argento told DailyMailTV that she blamed herself for not seeing through Bourdain's pain. "What I do feel terrible about is that he had so much pain inside of him and I didn't see it," she said (via People). "I did not see it and for that, I will feel guilty for the rest of my life." She spoke about being "angry" towards Bourdain for abandoning her and her children (from her past relationships). "But now it's been replaced just by this loss, this hole, that cannot be filled by anything," she added.
Four years after his tragic death, here's what Asia Argento has been up to.
Asia Argento found love again
In her interview with Daily Mail, Asia Argento spoke about the intimate details of her relationship with Anthony Bourdain as she addressed the numerous allegations that she pushed him to commit suicide. At the time, the "XXX" star was being accused of cheating on Bourdain with a French reporter named Hugo Clément. Explaining the rumored affair, Argento revealed that she and Bourdain had somewhat of an open relationship and that seeing other people was never "a problem for us." "He was a man who traveled 265 days a year. We took great pleasure in each other's company when we saw each other. But we are not children. We are grown-ups," she said, via People.
Years after losing Bourdain to suicide, it appears Argento has found love again with fellow Italian and MMA fighter Michele Titi Martignoni. She introduced her boyfriend (who is 21 years her junior, per Page Six) to her fans on Instagram in August 2022, sharing pictures with him on the beach, captioned, "Sunshine of my life." Most recently, Argento penned a sweet message for her new beau as she celebrated his recent win as an MMA world champion. "One month ago my boyfriend became MMA world champion. That night I experienced indescribable and mixed emotions, it was an unforgettable night," she wrote in her post. "I am so proud of you and to be by your side my love. Keep shining."
Asia Argento reacted to Anthony Bourdain's unauthorized biography
In 2022, allegations against Asia Argento resurfaced after texts sent between her and Anthony Bourdain were published in an unauthorized biography of the late chef, "Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain" by Charles Leerhsen. The book reveals intimate details about Bourdain's relationship with Argento and how her rumored infidelity had supposedly played a part in his 2018 suicide. "I am okay. I am not spiteful. I am not jealous that you have been with another man. I do not own you. You are free," Bourdain reportedly texted Argento a day before his death, per Page Six. "But you were careless. You were reckless with my heart. My life." Argento replied, "I can't take this," and ended things with Bourdain over his "possessiveness."
When an intoxicated Bourdain again reached out to her the next day, Argento reportedly wrote, "Stop busting my balls." He then replied, "OK", before his death that evening, according to the book. When asked for comment by The New York Times, Argento said that she had not read the memoir, but of Leehrsen, "I wrote clearly to this man that he could not publish anything I said to him." Later, she would respond to the accusations against her with a crass Instagram post quoting her last text to Bourdain, per People.
