Obsessed Fans That Spent Thousands To Look Like A Celebrity
Obsessed fans will go to great lengths to be closer to their idols. Some will even go under the knife.
Thanks to entourages of makeup artists, stylists, and cosmetic doctors (and, okay, genetics too,) celebrities are often jaw-droppingly gorgeous. While it's natural to feel a little envy over your favorite star's good looks, some fans have taken their celebrity admiration to the extreme by spending thousands of dollars to try to look just like them.
Let's take a closer look at the mixed results of all that nipping, tucking, plumping, and more. Was it worth it? You decide.
Mimicking the Mockingjay
Though Jennifer Lawrence has made a career out of being the girl-next-door type, she still has looks to die (or pay $25,000) for. According to ABC News, a woman named Kitty has spent at least that much on six surgeries in order to look more like Lawrence. "I can appreciate that her personality is spunky and fun," Kitty said. "I can appreciate that her body is banging."
Kitty said that as Lawrence's popularity began to grow, more and more people began to compare her to the Oscar-winning actress. Kitty said the birth of her daughter was a catalyst to take her natural resemblance to the actress even further via liposuction, breast implants, a nose job, and fat grafts.
Trying to keep up with a Kardashian
There's no doubt that Kim Kardashian is one of the most famous people on the planet right, and plenty of women around the world are doing everything they can to emulate her curves, contoured cheeks, and plump pot — including getting major plastic surgery.
Jennifer Pamplona reportedly spent more than $470,000 to keep up with this Kardashian. "I fell in love with surgery a long time ago, but after seeing Kim Kardashian I wanted to look like and have curves like her," she told News.com.au in 2017. Her surgeries reportedly included breast and butt implants, liposuction, and a nose job. Oh, and she had a few ribs removed, but get this — she wants more. "Surgeons have said it's not possible, they think I'm too exaggerated and that I don't need any more," the superfan said, "but I'm determined to make it happen."
Pamplona has used her pricey resemblance to the reality star to build a following on Instagram, where she promotes her own cosmetics line. "I've spent a lot of money to become Jennifer Pamplona, but I don't see it as an expense. More as an investment, she told Life and Style Magazine. "I will become more famous than Kim Kardashian."
Think twice before you nip, tuck, and pad
Pamplona isn't the only person who's turned to plastic surgery to look more like Kardashian. According to the Daily Mail, Claire Leeson spent $18,000 to try to further her resemblance to the reality star.
"I always had a resemblance to Kim and I thought I could capitalize on that by copying her look," Leeson said in 2016, revealing that she underwent breast augmentation and wore butt pads for photo shoots.
However, Leeson is not thrilled with the outcome of her work, saying her resemblance to the star has earned her too much ridicule. "I'm sick and tired of being compared to Kim Kardashian," she confessed. "I feel like a bit of an idiot and I regret saying I wanted to be like her."
Man of steel...and plastic
Herbert Chavez told VT that he became obsessed with Superman at age 5, and in an episode of Botched, he reveals that he was once the Guinness Book of World Records holder for "most Superman memorabilia."
He's all grown up now and has reportedly undergone more than 20 surgeries, including rhinoplasties, pec implants, jaw work, and liposuction. According to VT, he doesn't even pay for his surgeries anymore. His because his. Chavez revealed that his surgeon now does his surgeries for free because he gets so much press.
But according to Chavez, life as a the Man of Steel isn't all it's cracked up to be. "It is hard living up to people's expectations as a living superhero," he told VT. Though he claims he's "happy as Superman," Chavez said there's still one surgery he needs for his transformation to be complete: a leg lengthening procedure. Yes, that's a real thing, and according to the Paley Institute, home to the "world's most experienced limb lengthening surgeon in the world," it costs up to $250,000.
A true Belieber
This fan's plastic surgery story ended in tragedy. Tobias Strebel, an aspiring artist, appeared on an episode of TLC's My Strange Addiction to discuss his addiction to plastic surgery in an attempt to look more like pop star Justin Bieber.
On the show, Strebel said he spent more than $100,000 to try to achieve Bieber's "baby face." Along the way, Strebel's efforts attracted a lot of attention and even appeared on an episode of Botched.
In August 2015, a 35-year-old Strebel was reported missing, and just a few days later, he was found dead of an apparent drug overdose. According to People, police did not connect Strebel's death with his penchant for plastic surgery, but instead, pointed to a recent breakup.
Women aren't the only ones copying the Kardashians
Jordan James Parke has reportedly spent upwards of $130,000 to make his face look more like Kardashian's. Where has all that money gone?
"Botox in my forehead between my eyebrows, my eyes, sides of my face. I've had lip filler, chin filler, cheek filler," he said in a YouTube video, and that's not all. "I've had my nose done, and I have regular vampire facials as well which obviously Kim has done. Chemical peels ... You name it, I've pretty much tried it."
In the YouTube clip, Parke's mom says she wishes her son would slow down. Parke's filler addiction apparently got so out of hand at one point that he appeared in a 2015 episode of Botched to repair his lips. In an appearance on This Morning, he revealed that cosmetic procedures remain "a hobby" for him. So much so, in fact, that he's made a career out of it. He's currently the owner and managing director of The Lip King Aesthetics.
Taking after her big sis?
At this point, we've established that obsessed fans getting plastic surgery to look more like their celebrity idols is a thing, but in this case, a celeb's own relative may have gone under the knife to fine-tune a resemblance.
According to InTouch, actress Lindsay Lohan's estranged half-sister, Ashley Horn, spent $25,000 to look like Lohan. "I've gotten rhinoplasty, a bit of refinement underneath my cheeks and jawline, some fat injected into my chin and some fat injected into my upper cheeks," Horn supposedly said, adding that the results made her look "hotter than Lindsay."
However, in 2013, Horn appeared on a talk show to dispel rumors that she had surgery to try to resemble Lohan. She even passed a lie detector test and delivered a personal message to the Mean Girls star: "I am so sorry for letting the media use me to drag you into this."
We girls can be anything...with plastic surgery
Even though Barbie's lead designer has said the doll's body is totally unrealistic, that didn't stop this Ukranian woman from attempting to achieve it. According to GQ, Valeria Lukyanova only admits to having breast implants, though her striking figure and face have led many to believe there's more to her story.
Lukyanova told InStyle that she is "constantly in the process of transformation," and looking like Barbie isn't her final goal. "I actually like very different images. My favorites are from the world of fantasy like elves, warriors, and Amazons," she said.
You can keep tabs on her through her Instagram page, which tracks her physical evolution.
A relentless pursuit of perfection
What's Barbie without her Ken? A 2017 This Morning interview revealed that Rodrigo Alves has spent more than $500,000 on his Ken doll look, though he claimed looking like the doll wasn't his original intention. "I just want to perfect myself and be the best person physically with the help of plastic surgery," he said.
As of January 2018, however, it seems Alves' quest may be finished. "I have to stop with plastic surgery," he told the Daily Mail. "There is nothing else that can be changed without compromising my health."
Of course, Alves has said this before. In 2016, the Daily Mail reported that Alves quit having work done following a health scare, though he later resumed his efforts with more surgery, including a rib removal. It seems only time will tell if Alves' transformation is truly complete.
Build yourself beautiful
Kim isn't the only member of the Kardashian fan spawning costly lookalikes. Obsessed fans of half-sister Kylie Jenner have gone under the knife to look more like the lip kit queen — whose lips ironically aren't original, either.
One such admirer is Kyleigh Potts, a transgender woman who's reportedly spent more than $75,000 to look like Jenner. Potts told the Daily Mail that she's had lip fillers, breast implants, a chin implant, and a nose job. "Kylie Jenner has always been my ultimate goal and inspiration," she said. "I feel like I have always emulated her and like her I didn't start out beautiful, I built myself beautiful." Potts says she empathizes with Jenner's "ugly duckling" past.
Potts said she isn't finished with the surgical alterations. "I want to get butt implants, to pin and reshape my ears, a bullhorn lip lift, a blepharoplasty to help open up my eyes, lower my hairline, and voice change." You know, just to name a few.
