Celebrities Who Can't Stand Jennifer Lawrence
Everyone's got haters, even girl next door Jennifer Lawrence. The always outspoken starlet (who was the world's highest-paid actress in 2015!) made a name for herself by landing huge blockbuster roles while making sure she always remained relatable. As it turns out, however, she's still got her share of critics.
While some believe the young star's attempts to act "normal" are a mere marketing ploy, others can't quite seem to decide if she's good or bad. In addition to dividing fans, Lawrence has also managed to rack up plenty of enemies in Hollywood; like Joan Rivers who never forgot Lawrence's dig at Fashion Police; Chloe Sevigny, who went out of her way to explain why she doesn't like the American Hustle star; and reality star Lala Kent, who went HAM on Lawrence following Lawrence's dig at her on Watch What Happens Live.
And that's just to name a few. These are the celebs who simply can't stand JLaw.
Lindsay Lohan's Tweet beef
While promoting Joy on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in December 2015, Lawrence stirred up some controversy with an unexpected dig at former child star Lindsay Lohan.
When Colbert praised the young actress for being "a star who's willing to talk about things that aren't glamorous" and asked her about getting sick while shooting Joy in Boston, Lawrence admitted candidly, "I got a stomach virus and I was puking. I puked yesterday! I'm a puker," she joked. "I'm a big-time puker... I don't stop working because I'm a show pony. I don't have a choice. And so, I just keep going until, eventually, my body is just like, 'If we don't make her barf or pass out, she won't stop.' I get, like, Lindsay Lohan-grade exhaustion, but without any drugs or alcohol," she announced.
Almost as soon as those last words were spoken, Lohan's younger sister, Aliana, jumped to her defense, writing in a since-deleted tweet, "I never breathe life into negativity but I stand by my family. Disappointed in Jennifer Lawrence..Not cool."
LiLo then joined the conversation herself, as she answered her sister in a tweet that has since been removed, writing, "Thank you sister... Maybe who you're referring to should learn to support others like #mayaangelou." She accompanied her snarky remark with an image of a quote from late poet Maya Angelou's "Still I Rise."
Lohan also received public support from her mom, Dina, who told Entertainment Tonight in a statement that although she and her family "love Jennifer Lawrence, we have always been fans of hers, it was all unfortunate that she used Lindsay as a reference of not showing up to set, and that whole bit. It was disappointing that she didn't have her peers' back," she confessed. "You shouldn't trash anyone, it was just surprising. My family sticks together."
Jared Leto's Oscar night laughs
When Jennifer Lawrence took to the stage at the 2014 Oscars to present the award for best actor, she seemed to call out a mystery figure in the audience, asking, "What? Is this funny?"
As it turned out, that mystery someone was Jared Leto who later explained the eyebrow-raising incident to Access Hollywood, revealing, "She said, 'What are you laughing at?' but what she didn't know was that [host] Ellen [Degeneres] was on the side, making, pantomiming, 'Don't fall, don't fall,' and my mom and my brother are all cracking up. I guess we don't have any manners," he added, joking, "You can take them out of Louisiana but you can't take Louisiana out of them, right?"
The musician-turned-actor was then asked about Lawrence's red carpet fall earlier in the evening, her second Academy Awards mishap following the headline-making tumble she took while heading up on stage to accept the Best Actress award a year prior. Leto didn't mince words as he joked, "You know, I'm starting to wonder if this is a bit of an act."
Don't cross Joan Rivers
In November 2013, Lawrence joined Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer for a 40-minute interview as part of her The Hunger Games: Catching Fire promo tour. During their exchange, audience members were invited to pose questions and one man took the opportunity to ask Lawrence about body positivity on behalf of his daughter. Reading off his phone, he asked, "Having experienced body image criticism in Hollywood, what is your advice to young girls dealing with the same treatment from their peers and your response to those who judge others based on appearances?"
"Screw those people," the actress immediately declared, receiving major applause. "You just have to look past it. You look how you look and be comfortable. Like, what are you going to do? Be hungry every single day to make other people happy? That's just dumb," she added before calling out Joan Rivers' hit show, Fashion Police.
"Shows like the Fashion Police, and things like that, are just showing these generations of young people to judge people based on things that — they put values in all the things that are wrong," she said. "And that it's okay to point at people and call them 'ugly' or call them 'fat.' They call it 'fun' and 'Welcome to the real word' and it's like, that shouldn't be the real world... It's disappointing that the media keeps it alive and fuels that fire," the actress concluded.
Rivers was none too impressed with Lawrence's comments and she took to Twitter to let the world know, clapping back, "It's funny how Jennifer Lawrence loved [the show] during Awards Season when we were complimenting her every single week." She returned just a few minutes later to add, "WAIT! It just dawned on me why Jennifer Lawrence fell on her way up to the stage to get her Oscar. She tripped over her own arrogance."
In December 2013, Rivers appeared to still have Lawrence's criticism on her mind, as she told Page Six, "My New Year's resolution is [ensuring] Jennifer Lawrence grows up and realizes how lucky she is and calms down." And she didn't stop there. Rivers kept the shade coming as she added, "I love that she's telling everyone how wrong it is to worry about retouching and body image, and meanwhile, she has been touched up more than a choir boy at the Vatican," she quipped in her signature controversial style. "Look at her posters. She doesn't have a nose, she has two holes. She just has to learn, don't talk if you're doing it."
Chloë Sevigny thinks she's annoying and crass
Chloë Sevigny sat down for an interview with V Magazine in 2015 and she was asked by interviewer Natasha Stagg if she ever worries about being typecast. After admitting that she does, the actress went on to explain (via E! News) that "so much is about marketing and selling the product. They'll have a really peppy funny girl on the talk show rounds, and everybody adores her and loves her and wants to be her or f*** her, and then so many more people want to watch the movie or TV show."
Sevigny went on to name a couple of A-listers she admires — women like Angelina Jolie and Emma Stone — and at least one she could do without: "Jennifer Lawrence I find annoying. Too crass."
Donald Trump Jr. defends his daddy
In the midst of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and #MeToo movement, Jennifer Lawrence was interviewed at length by Oprah Winfrey for The Hollywood Reporter. During their Q&A session, Winfrey had the star talk about her stance on the growing fight for equality before asking, "Have you met Trump?" When Lawrence responded, "No, never," she was asked, "Do you want to?"
Not one to hold back, Lawrence spoke her mind, saying, "I think so. I've got a pretty good speech. And it ends with a martini to the face." Laughing, she added, "I have something to say for all of them. I watch different characters on the news, and I'm like, 'You just wait.'"
She didn't have to wait too long, as Donald Trump Jr. had something to say to her following the interview. Taking to Twitter, Trump's oldest son shared a link to an article with the headline 'Jennifer Lawrence: If I meet Trump, it'll end with 'a martini to the face'" and fired back, "I'm pretty sure that's not how it would end..."
Jennifer Lopez denied a JLaw dance
During a visit to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in May 2014, Lawrence treated the audience to quite the party story starring herself, Fallon, and Jennifer Lopez. Recounting an incident that took place at the Met Ball, Lawrence revealed, "We both saw JLo, and this is like 10 Jell-O shots in. I've never done Jell-O shots — I didn't go to college!" she laughed. "So we were dancing and we saw JLo and were like, 'Well, we gotta ask JLo to dance!' So I was like, 'We'll do a spin, and then we'll go, 'Dance with us!'"
Lawrence reportedly went ahead with the plan on her own (not realizing the funnyman had chickened out) and got the cold shoulder from Lopez. "I do it and then I look and he's gone and it's just me looking at JLo going, 'Dance with me!'" Lawrence continued. "She was just like, 'No. No. I think I'm just gonna observe.' You made me look like a freak in front of JLo! Do you know what that feels like?"
A couple of days later, the singer shared her side of the story, denying Lawrence's account, as she told Access Hollywood, "I remember that we were at the Met Ball and Kanye was about to perform and it was like a crazy moment. And then they came over, Jimmy Fallon, he started talking and I was with Benny [Medina] and Beau [Casper Smart] and then [JLaw] came over too. It was like they were a little group. And then she was like, 'Let's go dance,' and I was like, 'No, I'm good right here.' But I didn't mean it like, 'I don't want to dance with you.' I just meant like, it's so crowded in here, let's stay right here." She also clarified that she would have loved to dance with Lawrence, saying, "Come on! That would've been so sweet."
Would JLo truly have danced with JLaw? Or was Lopez actually weirded out by Lawrence's drunken antics? Guess we'll just have to wonder for now.
Spencer Pratt is crystal clear about disliking Jennifer Lawrence
In 2017, Lawrence landed Vogue's highly sought-after September cover and, inside the mag, she told interviewer Jason Gay about her flooded home and the power of crystals. "When I first moved in, the house was crystalled out — crystals everywhere, and geodes," she began. "And I was like, 'Please get rid of these; I don't want people to come over here and think I'm a crystal person.' Not that there's anything wrong with that! But everyone told me, 'You can't do that. You can't move them. You have to have the crystal lady who put them in move them." Instead of listening to said advice, the actress "just had all the crystals yanked out. Sold them. And then my f***ing house flooded. I hate crystals," she concluded.
Unexpectedly, soon after the story ran, former The Hills star Spencer Pratt publicly went on the offensive and announced that, as a crystal-lover, he felt personally attacked by Lawrence's remarks. During an interview with The Morning Breath, he proclaimed, "She was talking about me in Vogue, like, one hundred percent I'm the crazy crystal person she's clowning. So I'll see her. We'll bump into each other at the Beverly Hills Hotel, like I see all the A-listers and they run from me," he added.
Later in the show, he took another dig at Lawrence, blaming her for his battle with skin rashes. "It's spells. It's little b*tch-a**, voodoo hoes. It's Jennifer Lawrence!" he stated. Yikes.
The Miley Cyrus love triangle
After calling off their engagement and breaking up in 2013, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth rekindled their romance three years later and, according to a secret source who spoke to In Touch (via HollywoodLife), it's all thanks to Jennifer Lawrence. Or, rather, Cyrus' alleged jealousy of the close relationship the actress was building with her former flame.
"When Miley realized there might be something serious between Jennifer and Liam, she decided to do something to get him back," the unnamed insider told the outlet, adding that the young pop star "wanted to do everything in her power to make him realize she was right for him, not Jennifer."
The jealousy was likely sparked by headlines claiming that the Hunger Games co-stars were dating and Lawrence herself didn't do much to dispel the speculation when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live in December 2015 and admitted to making out with Hemsworth... off set.
When host Andy Cohen asked, "Have you two ever kissed when the cameras weren't rolling?" Lawrence said, "Liam and I grew up together. Liam's real hot. What would you have done? Yeah, I have."
Stay away from Kim Kardashian's mom
Lawrence has made no secret of her Kardashian obsession and blossoming friendship with matriarch Kris Jenner and, according to an unnamed source who spoke to Radar Online in December 2017, Kim Kardashian has had enough of the Oscar winner's attention. Kim reportedly went into a "jealous rage" over the close relationship her mom has developed with the starlet because "Kim was always Kris' favorite until Jennifer crashed the scene."
"She's waltzing into the family's world acting like a superstar and upsetting the order with her loud chaos. Kris says she's a hoot and treats her like the blonde daughter she never had," the source continued, adding, "Jennifer's definitely on the VIP invite list for her annual holiday party so Kim's dreading Jennifer stealing the show. The sunshine walks with Jennifer in Kris' eyes. Kim is fed up and doesn't know what to do."
Lala Kent
Jennifer Lawrence's 2018 appearance on Watch What Happens Live certainly lived up to its name when she laughingly called Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent "a c**t."
As you might expect, joke or not, Kent didn't take too kindly to the nationally-televised slight. "Did Jennifer Lawrence really call me a 'c**t' on @bravowwhl? Annnnnd talk about my mama? B**ch, you better pray I don't see you in the streets," the actress shot back in a since-deleted tweetstorm. "You're one of the highest paid actresses on the planet ... you claim you are pro-women and you call another woman a c**t? You're gross."
The one-sided feud continued less than a month later when the still pissed-off reality TV star dropped by the Juicy Scoop podcast (via Too Fab) and unleashed enough shade to cause a nuclear winter. Blasting the Red Sparrow star for "two failed films in a row" and calling her the "type of chick" who would give producer Harvey Weinstein sexual favors for roles, Kent leaned all the way in to wrap up her criticism of the A-list starlet.
"I think we've come to the conclusion she sucks ... Now anytime you bring her up, like, I'm going to have nothing nice to say about her [Insert things we won't repeat here followed by] ... I'm going to say that her hair sucks, her face is a little too pudgy, like she needs to stop the drinking, you know?"
Ouch.
